BACKGROUND the trans-fat containing AMLN(amylin liver non-alcoholic steatohepatitis,NASH)diet has been extensively validated in C57BL/6J mice with or without the Lep^ob/Lep^ob(ob/ob)mutation in the leptin gene for reliably inducing metabolic and liver histopathological changes recapitulating hallmarks of *** to a recent ban on trans-fats as food additive,there is a marked need for developing a new diet capable of promoting a compatible level of disease in ob/ob and C57BL/6J *** to develop a biopsy-confirmed mouse model of NASH based on an obesogenic diet with trans-fat substituted by saturated *** Male ob/ob mice were fed AMLN diet or a modified AMLN diet with trans-fat(primex shortening)substituted by equivalent amounts of palm oil[Gubra amylin NASH,(GAN)diet]for 8,12 and 16 wk.C57BL/6J mice were fed the same diets for 28 *** and GAN diets had similar caloric content(40%fat kcal),fructose(22%)and cholesterol(2%)*** the GAN diet was more obesogenic compared to the AMLN diet and impaired glucose ***-confirmed steatosis,lobular inflammation,hepatocyte ballooning,fibrotic liver lesions and hepatic transcriptome changes were similar in ob/ob mice fed the GAN or AMLN diet.C57BL/6J mice developed a mild to moderate fibrotic NASH phenotype when fed the same *** Substitution of primex with palm oil promotes a similar phenotype of biopsyconfirmed NASH in ob/ob and C57BL/6J mice,making GAN diet-induced obese mouse models suitable for characterizing novel NASH treatments.

Integration for coexistence？ Implementation of intercultural health care policy in Ghana from the perspective of service users and providers

OBJECtIVE： In spite of the World Health Organization＇s recommendations over the past decades, Ghana features pluralistic rather than truly integrated medical system. policies about the integration of complementary medicine into the national health care delivery system need to account for individuallevel involvement and cultural acceptability of care rendered by health care providers. Studies in Ghana, however, have glossed over the standpoint of the persons of the illness episode about the intercultural health care policy framework. this paper explores the health care users, and providers＇ experiences and attitudes towards the implementation of intercultural health care policy in Ghana. MEtHODS： In-depth interviews, augmented with informal conversations, were conducted with 16 health service users, 7 traditional healers and 6 health professionals in the Sekyere South District and Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Data were thematically analysed and presented based on the a posteriori inductive reduction approach. RESULtS： Findings reveal a widespread positive attitude to, and support for integrative medical care in Ghana. However, inter-provider communication in a form of cross-referrals and collaborative mechanisms between healers and health professionals seldom occurs and remains unofficially sanctioned. traditional healers and health care professionals are skeptical about intercultural health care policy mainly due to inadequate political commitment for provider education. the medical practitioners have limited opportunity to undergo training for integrative medical practice. We also find a serious mistrust between the practitioners due to the ＂diversity of healing approaches and techniques.＂ Weak institutional support, lack of training to meet standards of practice, poor registration and regulatory measures as well as negative perception of the integrative medical policy inhibit its implementation in Ghana. Globally,it is evident that glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is an aggressive malignant cancer with a high mortality rate and no effective treatment *** is classified as the stage-four progression of a glioma tumor,and its diagnosis results in a shortened life *** options for GBM include chemotherapy,immunotherapy,surgical intervention,and conventional pharmacotherapy;however,at best,they extend the patient’s life by a maximum of 5 *** are considered incurable due to their high recurrence rate,despite various aggressive therapeutic approaches which can have many serious adverse ***,classified as endocannabinoids,offer a promising novel therapeutic approach for *** may enhance the apoptosis of GBM cells but have no effect on normal healthy neural *** promote atypical protein kinase C,deactivate fatty acid amide hydrolase enzymes,and activate transient receptor potential vanilloid 1(tRpV1)and tRpV2 to induce pro-apoptotic signaling pathways without increasing endogenous *** previous in vivo studies,endocannabinoids,chemically classified as amide formations of oleic and palmitic acids,have been shown to increase the pro-apoptotic activity of human cancer cells and inhibit cell migration and *** review focuses on the biological synthesis and pharmacology of endogenous cannabinoids for the enhancement of cancer cell apoptosis,which have potential as a novel therapy for GBM.

Synthesis and Characterization of the thermoelectric Nickel tetrathiooxalate polymer as Nanoparticles

Nanoparticles of the conductive coordination polymer Ni(tto) have been synthesized under mild conditions in the presence of bio-based polyesters or polyethylene glycol acting as growth controlling agents. With polyesters, aggregates of particles are observed whereas well dispersed nanoparticles are obtained with polyethylene glycol. Indeed, for a Ni2+/polyethylene glycol weight ratio of 0.031, transmission electron micrographs evidence dispersed particles exhibiting sizes in the 3 - 10 nm range. Infrared spectra for nanopowders show two CS stretching modes in the 1100 - 1190 cm−1 range, confirming the presence of the tetrathiooxalate ligand coordinated to the nickel center. the room-temperature electrical conductivity for the nanopowder prepared in the presence of polyethylene glycol is about 0.8 S∙cm−1, a decent value for tetrathiolate-based polymers. Finally, magnetic susceptibility measurements for well-dispersed Ni(tto) particles evidence a Curie-Weiss law in a large temperature range. Moreover, low temperatures measurement would confirm intra- or interchain interactions between nickel atoms within the Ni(tto) polymer chains.

Dear Editor, Understanding how Kranz anatomy develops in C4 plants is a critical part of the current worldwide effort to transfer C4 photosynthesis into C3 plants, including rice. Recently, it was proposed that the Kranz architecture that supports C4 photosynthesis in maize leaves is an extension of the endodermal program, which is active in roots, stems, and petioles, and is ubiquitous in angiosperms （Slewinski et al., 2012; Slewinski, 2013）.

Enhancement in the Electrical and thermal properties of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) Co-polymer by Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

EVA/ZnO nanocomposites of 1%, 2% and 4% ZnO were fabricated by direct probe sonicator method. the ZnO nanopowders were prepared by solvothermal method. As the particle size of the filler incorporated to the polymer matrix decreases, the properties of the polymer-filler interface show dominance over its bulk properties. the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the composites at ambient temperatures are found to decrease with increasing frequency. the thermal analysis using tGA-DtA is also performed and it is found that the thermal stability of the nanocomposites increases with increasing the filler concentrations. the thermal parameters such as thermal diffusivity (α) and thermal effusivity (e), the thermal conductivity (k) and heat capacity (Cp) were studied using photopyroelectric technique. the band gap of the samples was also determined and found to decrease with increasing filler concentrations. the tensile strength and peel strength of the samples were also investigated and it is found to increase with small inclusion of filler material.
