Cryptic species composition and genetic diversity within Bemisia tabaci complex in soybean in India revealed by mtCOI DNA sequence

Bemisia tabaci is a cryptic species complex, causing signiifcant loss on many agricultural y important crops worldwide. Knowledge on species composition and diversity within B. tabaci complex is critical for evolving sustainable pest management strategies. Here we investigate the whitelfy species complex in soybean in major soybean growing states of India. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase gene subunit-1 (mtCOI) based phylogenetic relationships established using Bayesian methods indicated the existence of three cryptic species namely Asia I, Asia II 1, and Asia II 7. Al the haplotypes detected in the study could be assigned to these three cryptic species fol owing the species demarcation criteria of 3.5%divergence threshold. Of these, Asia II 1 was found to be predominant with wide spread distribution across the surveyed regions from cool temperate zones to hot and humid tropical plains. On the contrary, cryptic species Asia II 7 showed localized distribu-tion. The Asia II 1 exhibited the highest haplotype diversity and Asia I showed high level of nucleotide diversity. There was a signiifcantly high genetic differentiation among these three cryptic species. The MEAM 1, a dreadful invasive species was not detected in the specimens tested in the current study. The diversity and distribution of three cryptic species is discussed in the light of current knowledge on distribution of whitelfy species in India and yel ow mosaic disease observed during sampling survey.

Aiming at the shortcomings of the existing wedgelet compression arithmetics, a novel contour-representing algorithm based on wedgelets is presented in this paper. Firstly the input image is binarized and the most optimized wedgelets are found by means of quadtree framework. Then the contours are reconstructed by applying the wedgelets, the data volume is compressed, and the shortcomings of the contour representation based on normal wavelet are ameliorated, the better effect for the visualization is obtained, too.

The northeastern region of India constitutes one of the biodi- versity hotspots of the world. The ethnic groups inhabiting this region practice their distinctive traditional knowledge systems using biodiver- sity for food, shelter and healthcare. Among the less-studied plants, paederia foetida has been used by various ethnic tribes as food and medicine. Many of its therapeutic properties relate to the gastrointestinal system and suggest its potential utility for gastrointestinal ailments. This is a review of the ethnobotanical uses, phytochemistry and therapeutic properties of p. foetida compiled from various reports. p. foetida is promising as a remedy for life-style related conditions, especially treat- ment of ulcers. Its utility highlights the need for proper evaluation of tribal plants as medicines and the species could be considered for devel- opment of new drugs.

A Heuristic for the Job Scheduling problem with a Common Due Window on parallel and Non-Identical Machines

In this paper, we give a mathematical model for earliness-tardiness job scheduling problem with a common due window on parallel and non-identical machines. Because the job scheduling problem discussed in the paper contains a problem of minimizing make-span, which is Np-complete on parallel and uniform machines, a heuristic algorithm is presented to find an approximate solution for the scheduling problem after proving an important theorem. Two numerical examples illustrate that the heuristic algorithm is very useful and effective in obtaining the near-optimal solution.

EFFECTS OF IMpURITIES AND RARE EARTH ADDITION ON THE TOUGHENING LEVELS OF Al-Li BASED ALLOYS 2090 AND 1420

The effects of the impurities Fe, Si, Na, K and a rare earth addition, Ce, on the intrinsic and extrinsic toughening levels have been investigated for the Al-Li based alloys 2090 and 1420. 29K reduction in the toughening level for the alloy 2090 with impurities 0.42% Fe+Si or 0.0132% Na+K i4 identified to be caused by the *** improvement on the fracture toughness can be made by adding 0.05%-0.25% Ce to the alloy 2090. The reason behind this is that Ce microalloying can not only enhance both the intrinsic toughening level and the extrinsic toughening level but also suppress the embrittling behavior of the impurities. However, 0.06%-0.15% Ce microalloying fails to bring about any beneficial effect to the toughening level for the alloy 1420.

Many wildife species cause extensive damage to a variety of agricultural commodities in California,with es-timates of damage in the hundreds of millions *** the limited availability of resources to solve all human-wildlife conficts,we should focus management efforts on issues that provide the greatest benefit to ag-ricultural commodities in *** survey provides quantitative data on research needs to better guide future efforts in developing more effective,practical and appropriate methods for managing these *** found that ground squirels,pocket gophers,birds,wild pigs,coyotes and voles were the most common agricul-tural wildlife pest species in *** damage caused by these species could be quite high,but varied by agricultural *** most species,common forms of damage included loss of crop production and di-rect death of the plant,although livestock depredation was the greatest concern for *** methods used most frequently and those deemed most effective varied by pest species,although greater advancements in control methods were listed as a top research priority for all ***,the use of toxicants,biocon-trol and trapping were the most preferred methods for control,but this varied by *** general,integrated pest management practices were used to control wildlife pests,with a special preference for those approaches that were efficacious and quick and inexpensive to *** information and survey design should be useful in establishing research and management priorities for wildlife pest species in California and other similar re-gions.

Structural,magnetic and dielectric properties of nano-crystalline Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics formulated by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis

Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) powders with the composition BiFe_(1-x)Ni_(x)O_(3)(x=0.05,0.1 and 0.15)were prepared by a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS),using metal nitrates as oxidizers and glycine as *** X-ray diffraction(XRD)patterns depict that Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics crystallize in a rhombhohedral *** scanning electron micrographs of Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics show a dense morphology with interconnected *** is found that,the room-temperature magnetization measurements in Ni-incorporated BiFeO_(3) ceramics give rise to nonzero *** magnetization of Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics is significantly enhanced when Ni doping concentration reaches to x=0.1 at 5 *** variations of dielectric constant with temperature in BiFe_(0.95)Ni_(0.05)O_(3),BiFe_(0.9)Ni_(0.1)O_(3) and BiFe_(0.85)Ni_(0.15)O_(3) samples exhibit clear dielectric anomalies approximately around 450℃,425℃and 410℃respectively,which correspond to antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase transition of the parent compound BiFeO_(3).
