Background The identification of circulating biomarkers that closely correlate with parkinson’s Disease(pD)has failed several times in the ***,in this pilot study,a translational approach was conducted,allowing the evaluation of the plasma levels of two mitochondrial-related proteins,whose combination leads to a robust model with potential diagnostic value to discriminate the pD patients from matched *** The proposed translational approach was initiated by the analysis of secretomes from cells cultured under control or well-defined oxidative stress conditions,followed by the identification of proteins related to pD pathologic mechanisms that were altered between the two *** pipeline was further translated into the analysis of undepleted plasma samples from 28 control and 31 pD *** From the secretome analysis,several mitochondria-related proteins were found to be differentially released between control and stress conditions and to be able to distinguish the two ***,two mitochondrial-related proteins were found to be significantly changed in a pD cohort compared to matched ***,a linear discriminant model with potential diagnostic value to discriminate pD patients was obtained using the combination of these two *** proteins are associated with apoptotic mitochondrial changes,which may correspond to potential indicators of cell ***,one of these proteins,the VpS35 protein,was reported in plasma for the first time,and its quantification was only possible due to its previous identification in the secretome *** In this work,an adaptation of a translational pipeline for biomarker selection was presented and transposed to neurological diseases,in the present case parkinson’s *** novelty and success of this pilot study may arise from the combination of:i)a translational research pipeline,where plasma samples are interrogated using knowledge previously ob

Is the Distribution of Microorganisms and peritonitis Affected by Seasonality in peritoneal Dialysis?

Introduction: peritonitis continues to be the main complication for patients on peritoneal dialysis (pD). Objective: To determine the frequency of peritonitis according to the disease-causing microorganism and its distribution throughout the year, linking to seasonality. Methods: A retrospective study conducted in the Dialysis Unit of the Hospital São Lucas, pUCRS (HSL-pUCRS). patients undergoing pD between January 1984 and September 2013 were included. Descriptive statistics were used and Fisher’s exact test with Monte Carlo simulation for comparison between the categorical variables. Results: Of 415 evaluated patients, 66% had at least one episode of peritonitis with an incidence rate of 0.68 episode/year. There were 601 peritonitis episodes in total. The most common microorganism was coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (26.6%, n = 160), followed by Staphylococcus aureus (16.3%, n = 98), with 16.3% of the sample being negative culture. Most episodes occurred in the months of January (10.3%, n = 62) and May (10.1%, n = 61), while June had the lowest occurrence (5.2%, n = 31). Assessment of BTEX Concentrations in Air Ambient of Gas Stations Using passive Sampling and the Health Risks for Workers

Gas stations are important emissions source of benzene (C6H6), toluene (C7H8), ethylbenzene (C8H10), and ortho, meta and para-xylene (C8H10)—better known by the acronym BTEX. The objective of this study was to determine the concentrations of BTEX compounds in the ambient air of ten gas stations in the cities of Salvador and Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil and evaluate the health risks to workers. passive samplers diffusive of the Radiello?, containing activated carbon as adsorbent, were used. The samplers were exposed for 8 h and then the analytes were recovered by chemical desorption with CS2 and determined by GC-FID. The BTEX concentrations found in the ambient air of gas stations ranged from 46.72 - 435.43 μg·m?3 for benzene;25.54 - 342.46 μg·m?3 for toluene, 7.10 - 30.07 μg·m?3 for ethylbenzene, 9.36 - 89.73 μg·m?3 for m, p-xylene and 9.79 - 52.29 μg·m?3 for o-xylene. The concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes found in gas stations were lower than the limits recommended by the US NIOSH and NR-15 of the Ministry of Labour of Brazil;however, it should be considered the risks due to chronic exposure of workers. Benzene concentrations in three gas stations were above the exposure limit recommended by NIOSH (3.20 × 102 μg·m?3). Samplings were also held outdoors at 250 m of two gas stations. The total concentrations of the BTEX compounds were equal to 24.97 and 35.51 μg·m?3, and benzene concentrations were about 3 - 4 times higher than the annual pattern of 5.0 μg·m?3 established by Union European, as tolerance limit for outside areas. These data confirm that the next areas of gas stations are subject to the effects of volatilization of these compounds. Additionally, the values found in the 10 gas stations for the cancer risk ranged from 4.06 × 10?5 - 3.78 × 10?4 (mean of 1.82 × 10?4) for workers exposed to benzene for 30 years (acceptable limit equal 1.00 × 10?6). We describe key production-related traits of trahira(Hoplias malabaricus),an aquaculture candidate species,in a semi-intensive fish farming *** quantified growth from hatch through grow-out at two stocking densities and evaluated fillet protein,lipids and fatty-acid *** made 2430 observations of growth and morphometrics on 270 juvenile fish allocated to four fish ponds,two at 5 fish/m^(2)(90 animals)and two at 10 fish/m^(2)(180 animals)through 11 *** fish reached an average length of 27.5 cm(±0.38)and 27.0 cm(±0.24),and weight of 263.0 g(±10.54)and 246.7 g(±6.89),respectively,at the low and high *** was no significant difference in weight(p>0.05)between the densities for any of the parameters assessed,and hence the same growth curve applied to both densities(A=292.9;B=28.1;and K=0.65).Standard length,however,differed significantly(ppids increased throughout the trial,while protein content *** acid(C18:0)increased throughout the experimental period,while docosahexaenoic acid and the n3/n6 profile decreased,with no differences among stocking *** malabaricus may prove a viable aquaculture species in Neotropical regions,where development of native species may contribute to sustainable aquaculture production.

In this work,the impact of the doping process on the photoluminescence emission of CaWO_(4) as a function of the concentration of Eu^(3+) cation(0.01 mol%,0.02 mol%,0.04 mol%,0.06 mol%,0.08 mol%,and 0.10 mol%) is discussed in ***_(1-x)WO~4:xEu^(3+) samples were successfully synthesized by a simple coprecipitation method followed by microwave *** blue shift in the absorption edge confirms the quantum confinement effect and the band gap energy covers the range from 3.91 to 4.18 eV,as the amount of Eu^(3+) cations *** experimental results are sustained by first-principles calculations,at the density functional theory level,to decipher the geometry and electronic properties,thereby enabling a more accurate and direct comparison between theory and experiment for the Ca_(1-x)WO_(4):xEu^(3+) structure.

BACKGROUND patients with cirrhosis are at risk of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy,with resulting cardiac dysfunction and exercise *** minute walking test(6MWT)assesses functional status and predicts morbidity and mortality in cardiopulmonary *** To determine if it associates with mortality by analyzing 6MWT performance in patients with liver *** A cohort of 106 cirrhotic patients was evaluated in the outpatient setting with echocardiogram and 6MWT and follow up for one year to document hepatic decompensation and *** distance in meters was recorded at the end of 6 min(6MWD).RESULTS This cohort had a mean age of 51 years and 56%male;patients were staged as Child A in 21.7%,B 66%and C 12.3%.Walk distance inversely correlated with Child scores,and was significantly reduced as Child stages *** who died(10.4%)showed shorter mean 6MWD(p=0.006).Low 6MWD was an independent predictor of mortality(p=0.01).CONCLUSION 6MWT is a noninvasive inexpensive test whose result is related to Child scores and *** is useful to identify patients with liver cirrhosis at high risk of mortality for closer monitoring and potential early intervention.

Virtual games and quality of life in parkinson’s disease: A randomised controlled trial

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Nintendo Wii training in quality of life in parkinson’s disease (pD) patients when compared to traditional physical therapy (pT). Methods: A randomized, single-blinded trial with 2 parallel arms was performed in a referral center for movement disorders in North-eastern, Brazil. Forty-four pD outpatients that fulfilled the eligibility criteria with mild to moderate motor impairment were randomized. Both groups executed a warm up session for 10 minutes that consisted of trunk flexion, extension and rotation, associated with upper and lower limbs stretching. The pT group followed a program that consisted of trunk and limb mobilisation, balance, muscle strengthening, rhythmic movement, postural alignment, double-task execution, bimanual tasks, and gait training. The Nintendo Wii group executed a sequence of tasks according to a previously established protocol, with similar training exercises. Duration of exercises was 40 minutes per session, 3 days per week for 4 weeks. The primary endpoint was the total score obtained in the parkinson’s disease quality of life questionnaire (pDQ-39) translated from English to Brazilian portuguese by Oxford outcomes. Secondary endpoints were the scores achieved by each group in the following domains of pDQ-39 scale: mobility, activities of daily living (ADL), emotional well-being, stigma, social support, cognition, communication and bodily discomfort. Assessments were performed before and after intervention in both groups with subjects in the “on” period. Results: Subjects in the Nintendo Wii group showed greater improvement in the pDQ-39 total score when compared to pT group (p = 0.01). Also, significant differences were observed in ADL, stigma, social support and communication when comparing subjects before and after intervention in the Nintendo Wii group (p < 0.05). Technical Evaluation of Eye Drops Instillation： A Systematic Review

Objective： Assess the profile of eye drops in patients with eye diseases. Methods： Studies available in the scientific literature were identified without any time limits using the databases Embase-Medline, Scielo, Scopus and Web of Knowledge. The selected studies were compared with the following inclusion criteria：（i） if the study evaluated the eye drop instillation, （ii） if the study involved participation of patients with eye diseases. Results： Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria. Of them, 83.33% evaluated the technique of eye drop instillation in patients with glaucoma, 8.33% in patients with eye diseases and 8.33% in patients with cataract after undergoing surgery to correct. 41.66% of studies have chosen to record a video of patients to analyze the technique of instilling eye drops and 41.66% did not describe the/esearch location. Regarding the type of study, 75% had the design as prospective cross-sectional, 8.33% prospective open label study, 8.33% intervention study and 8.33% study called masked trial. Although studies evaluate the technique of eye drop instillation, only 8.33% describe in the article the reference in the literature used to evaluate patients. 50% of articles acknowledged some sort of bias or limitation. Conclusion： The limitations inherent in these types of studies should guide future research.

possible Measures Electromagnetic Waves Generated by Diamagnetic Currents produced in the Ionosphere by High-Frequency （HF）

In a recent article the authors described a possible process of generating electromagnetic waves in the range of 1-12 Hz caused by diamagnetic currents originated by heat in ionosphere by high frequency waves （HF）. The origin of the HF waves that reach the ionosphere can be sent from the Earth＇s surface （HAARp- High Frequency Active Auroral Research program） or even solar. Through a SpectranNF-5035 detector, developed by German Aaronia with high sensitivity （1 μV） in a range of 1-12 Hz and low sampling time （5 ms）, it was possible to measure these waves. During the months of July and August of 2016, very dry and away from electrical discharges in the region of S~ Jos~ dos Campos, Sp, Brazil were made several series of measurements to detect these waves. The positive results of these experimental observations as well as discussions and suggestions are presented in this paper.

Risk Factors for Cervical Cancer in a Sample Comprising Three Generations of Brazilian Women

Background: Cervical cancer is the main cause of cancer deaths in some developing countries. Age-related cervical cancer incidence has been fundamental for understanding the different stages of carcinogenesis concepts. No Brazilian study explored the environmental risk factors involved on cervical cancer, according to age groups taking 70’s sexual revolution in Brazil as reference. Aim: To determine the prevalence of epidemiological and clinical aspects related to cervical cancer development in a sample of three age groups of Brazilian women based on 70’s sexual revolution. Methods: A cross-section study was proceeded in a hospital-based cohort of women with altered pap-test refereed to the National Cancer Institute for Colposcopy and treatment from October 2004 to May 2006. Two register nurses interviewed all patients ascertaining risk factors and clinical characteristics. Biopsy, partial ablation were used for CIN-1, and conization was the treatment for CIN-2/3. Results: From 318 women included in the study, 42.8% were 18 - 30 years old (born after 1975), 43.4% were 31 - 49 years old (born 1955-1975), and 13.8% were 50 - 68 years old (born 1936-1954). pregnancies (OR = 1.16;CI95%: 1.01 - 1.34) and menarche under 12 years old (OR = 1.95;CI95%: 1.17 - 3.25) were independently associated to CIN2- 3/cancer in 18 - 30 age group;menopause age (OR = 1.21;CI95%: 1.04 - 1.41) and current smoking habit (OR = 1.37;CI95%: 1.10 - 1.70) were associated to CIN2- 3/cancer in 31 - 49 age group;no statistical significance was observed for 50 - 68 age group. Conclusion: Brazilian women present distinct risk for cervical cancer according to the generation they belong, when taking the Brazilian sexual revolution on 70’s as a reference.
