Increasing energy cost calls for exterior coatings with high near infra-red reflectance,so as to reduce heat absorption and in turn cost of *** modulations of substrate,use of white metal oxides as pigments or under-layers has been reported in past,reports on metal oxide or doped metal oxide pigments with high NIR reflectance is *** report for the first time a blue colored cobalt aluminate type pigment prepared through doping of cerium,praseodymium or *** color measurements and calculation ofDE indicated that the Nd doped sample had crystal size of(36±1)nm,bandgap value of(2.4±0.2)eV and color coordinates similar to that of cobalt *** molar ratio as estimated by EDX was found to be Al:Cu:Co:Ce:Nd:O=2:0.06:0.06:0.012:0.00012:*** pigment was found to have potential applications as a cool blue colorant,owing to changes in optical properties arising out of crystal chemistry *** of rare earth metal ions was found to enhance the NIR reflectance by 10%,when compared to a conventional cobalt aluminate *** oxide has been well characterized and its performance as a pigment *** have proposed that changes in crystal lattice when neodymium enters into Ce4+sites enhance the NIR reflectance by about 9%as against the entry of praseodymium.

A novel way of producing superhydrophobic surfaces by applying a self-assembled monolayer(SAM)to silicon micro/nano-textured surfaces is presented in this *** micro/nano-textured surfaces on silicon substrates were generated by the aluminum-induced crystallization(AIC)of amorphous silicon(a-Si)***(OTS)SAMs were then applied to the textured surfaces by dip *** topography and wetting properties of the resulting surfaces were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and a video-based contact angle measurement *** results show that by introducing OTS SAMs on the silicon micro/nano-textured surfaces,superhydrophobic surfaces with water contact angles(WCAs)of 155°were obtained,as compared to the WCAs of OTS-modified smooth silicon surfaces of about 112°.Surface topography was found to directly influence the WCA as predicted by the Cassie-Baxter model.

This article examines the suitability of fabricating artificial, dragonfly-like, wing frames from materials that are commonly used in unmanned aircraft （balsa wood, black graphite carbon fiber and red prepreg fiberglass）. Wing frames made with Type 321 stainless steel are also examined for comparison. The purpose of these wings is for future use in biomimetic micro aerial vehicles （BMAV）. BMAV are a new class of unmanned micro-sized aerial vehicles that mimic flying biolog- ical organisms （like flying insects）. Insects, such as dragonflies, possess corrugated and complex vein structures that are difficult to mimic. Simplified dragonfly-like wing frames were fabricated from these materials and then a nano-composite film was adhered to them, which mimics the membrane of an actual dragonfly. Finite element analysis simulations were also performed and compared to experimental results. The results showed good agreement （less than 10% difference for all cases）. Analysis of these results shows that stainless steel is a poor choice for this wing configuration, pri- marily because of the aggressive oxidation observed. Steel, as well as balsa wood, also lacks flexi- bility. In comparison, black graphite carbon fiber and red prepreg fiberglass offer some structural advantages, making them more suitable for consideration in future BMAV applications.

protein trafficking or protein sorting in eukaryotes is a complicated process and is carried out based on the information contaified in the protein. Many methods reported prediction of the subcellular location of proteins from sequence information. However, most of these prediction methods use a flat structure or parallel architecture to perform prediction. In this work, we introduce ensemble classifiers with features that are extracted directly from full length protein sequences to predict locations in the protein-sorting pathway hierarchically. Sequence driven features, sequence mapped features and sequence autocorrelation features were tested with ensemble learners and their performances were compared. When evaluated by independent data testing, ensemble based-bagging algorithms with sequence feature composition, transition and distribution （CTD） successfully classified two datasets with accuracies greater than 90%. We compared our results with similar published methods, and our method equally performed with the others at two levels in the secreted pathway. This study shows that the feature CTD extracted from protein sequences is effective in capturing biological features among compartments in secreted pathways.

AIM: To investigate the effect of adrenalectomy (ADX) on the epididymidis of Sprague-Dawley rats. METHODS: The histological, biochemical (cholesterol protein, zinc, copper, alkaline and acid phosphatase aryl sulphatase, lactic dehydrogenase and leucine amino peptidase) and hormonal (FSH, LH and testosterone) changes of caput and cauda epididymis in ADX rats were observed. RESULTS: Organ wet weight, histological studies and morphometric measurements indicated a cellular degeneration in caput and cauda epididymis of ADX rats. Serum testosterone level was significantly lower in ADX than in sham-operated rats, while the serum FSH and LH were below the detection limit of 1 mIU/mL. The enzymatic activity was higher in ADX than in sham-operated rats. Epididymal zinc level increased whereas copper level decreased in ADX rats compared to the sham-operated. CONCLUSION: Adrenalectomy leads to degeneration of caput and cauda epididymidis epithelial cells as a result of decreased supply of testosterone.

The water impact and subsequent entry of three rigid axisymmetric bodies,a sphere and two cones,in the early phase are simulated using CFD utilizing a VOF scheme to track the free surface and the results compared with the recent experimental results available in the *** penetration depth,vertical velocity and vertical acceleration time histories have been reproduced well by CFD with a wide choice of mesh density,whereas the peak pressure on impact required a much finer mesh and appropriate choice of the time *** an interaction region around the trajectory of the body with fine mesh and an adaptive time stepping strategy has worked well to capture the peak impact pressure accurately with reasonable computational ***‘full’motion of the sphere,which is buoyant,has also been simulated using CFD allowing its 6-dof motion for several cycles of entry and exit *** features of the behavior,especially the loss of symmetry of the trajectory,are discussed.
