The Taguchi method, based on an orthogonal arrangement (L9, 33), the v.ri-ance analysis, the signal-to-noise ratios and the response surface methodol-ogy hav. been used to optimize maximum flank wear (v.max) and surface roughness (ra) of the cutting tool when turning a hardened steel AISI D2 (65 HRC) with pv.—TiAlN coated WC insert upon dry env.ronment. By em-ploying regression models;cutting speed, cutting depth and feed rate, which optimize maximum flank wear and surface roughness were v.lidated. Results of relation signal-to-noise ratios, showed that with cutting speed of 200 m/min, cutting depth of 0.2 mm and feed rate of 0.20 mm/rev. ra is opti-mized. With cutting speed of 150 m/min, cutting depth of 0.4 mm and feed rate of 0.3 mm/rev. v.max is optimized. Through the v.riance analysis it was concluded that the depth of cut was the main parameter that affected on the surface roughness;whereas, the feed rate was the most influential parameter on the flank wear. Confirmation test results showed that the Taguchi method was v.ry successful in the optimization of machining parameters for mini-mum surface roughness and flank wear in the turning of the D2 steel.

BACKGROUND Intrahepatic sarcomatoid chonalgiocarcinoma(s-CCC) is an extremely rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of hepatobiliary system malignancies, and its pathophysiology is not well known. On the hypothesis that its clinical, serologic,or radiologic diagnosis are not fully understood and its prognosis is poor, we inv.stigated the distinguishing features of s-CCC compared with those of intrahepatic bile duct adenocarcinoma [cholangiocellular carcinoma(CCC)] in patients from a single *** To analyze the clinical, serologic, imaging, and histopathologic characteristics of intrahepatic s-CCC patients diagnosed in a single *** The clinical, serologic, imaging, and histopathologic features of 227 patients diagnosed with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(IHCC) in a single medical center during the last 17 years were analyzed. The characteristics of 11 patients with s-CCC were compared with those of 216 patients with *** The number of patients with s-CCC who presented fev.r and abdominal pain and past history of chronic v.ral hepatitis or liv.r cirrhosis(LC) was higher than that of patients with CCC. In imaging studies, patients with s-CCC showed relativ.ly aggressiv. features. Howev.r, no clear distinction was observ.d between s-CCC and CCC based on other clinical, serologic or radiologic examination results. An accurate diagnosis could be made only v.a a histopathologic examination through immunohistochemical staining. Symptoms of Tar Spot Complex (TSC) in corn appear in the form of black spots surrounded by a chlorotic halo known as fish-eye. The crop with these symptoms was found at San pablo Autopan, Estado de Mexico. The stromal region of foliar lesions was cut longitudinally, showing perithecia, asci and ascospores typical of phyllachora maydis. The results were confirmed by pCR-ITS with ITS 1 and ITS4 initiators, cloned by pJET, before being sequenced and compared against NCBI’s data base. phyllachora identity was confirmed. This is the first report where TSC pathogen has been detected under conditions that had not been prev.ously reported, for instance, at 2600 meters abov. the sea lev.l.

The use of direct-acting antiv.rals(DAAs) to treat chronic hepatitis C has resulted in a significant increase in rates of sustained v.ral response(around 90%-95%) as compared with the standard treatment of peginterferon/ribav.rin. Despite this, howev.r, the rates of therapeutic failure in daily clinical practice range from 10%-15%. Most of these cases are due to the presence of resistant v.ral v.riants, resulting from mutations produced by substitutions of amino acids in the v.ral target protein that reduce v.ral sensitiv.ty to DAAs, thus limiting the efficacy of these drugs. The high genetic div.rsity of hepatitis C v.rus has resulted in the existence of resistance-associated v.riants(rav.), sometimes ev.n before starting treatment with DAAs, though generally at low lev.ls. These preexisting rav. do not appear to impact on the sustained v.ral response, whereas those that appear after DAA therapy could well be determinant in v.rological failure with future treatments. As well as the presence of rav., v.rological failure to treatment with DAAs is generally associated with other factors related with a poor response, such as the degree of fibrosis, the response to prev.ous therapy, the v.ral load or the v.ral genotype. Nonetheless, v.ral breakthrough and relapse can still occur in the absence of detectable rav. and after the use of highly effectiv. DAAs, so that the true clinical impact of the presence of rav. in therapeutic failure remains to be determined.

To compare the subjectiv. v.sual experience of cataract patients during phacoe mulsification and intraocular lens implantation under topical anesthesia (TA) v. retrobulbar anesthesia (ra). prospectiv., randomized, controlled trial. Three h undred six cataract patients eligible for phacoemulsification and intraocular le ns implantation were randomized to receiv. either TA or ra during surgery by one of three surgeons. The surgeons were familiar with both anesthetic techniques a nd operated on the patients using the technique to which the patients were rando mized. A masked interv.ewer conducted in person interv.ews with the patients us ing a standardized questionnaire about their intraoperativ. v.sual experience an d their reaction to their v.sual experience between 30 minutes and 4 hours after the surgery. Two patients (one in each group) had intraoperativ. posterior caps ule rupture and were excluded from analysis. There was no statistically signific ant difference between TA (n=154) and ra (n=150) groups, except that more males compared with females had TA (p=. 03). More patients who had TA reported percept ion of light (p p p proportions of patients who s aw mov.ments, flashes, instruments, or the surgeon or medical staff during the o peration and who found their v.sual sensations frightening in the two groups. Ho wev.r, 10.4%in the TA group and 9.3%in the ra group found their v.sual experie nce frightening. More patients undergoing cataract surgery under TA compared wit h ra reported perception of light, colors, and a change in light brightness. A s ignificant proportion of patients in both groups found the v.sual experience fri ghtening.
