Gonioscopy: A review

Gonioscopy allows us to examine the angle of anterior chamber and forms part of complete ophthalmic examination and it is mandatory for the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. Gonioscopy permits the identification of eyes at risk for closure and detects angle abnormalities that could have diagnostic and therapeutic implications. principle, types and techniques of gonioscopy, various types of gonioscopic lenses used, indications of performing gonioscopy, gonioscopic anatomy and grading are discussed in this article.

AIM:In previous experiments we have demonstrated that by administering low doses of cholecystokinin-octapeptide (CCK-8),the process of regeneration following L-arginine (Arg)-induced pancreatitis is *** rats that were also diabetic(induced by streptozotocin,STZ),pancreatic regeneration was not *** aim of this study was to deduce whether the administration of exogenous insulin could in fact restore the hypertrophic effect of CCK-8 in diabetic-pancreatitic rats. METHODS:Male Wistar rats were used for the experiments. Diabetes mellitus was induced by administering 60mg/kg body mass of STZ intraperitoneally(i.p.),then,on d 8, pancreatitis was induced by 200mg/100 g body mass Arg *** at an interval of 1 *** animals were injected subcutaneously twice daily(at 7 *** 7 p.m.)with 1 μg/kg of CCK-8 and/or 2 IU mixed insulin(300g/L short- action and 700g/L intermediate-action insulin) for 14 d after pancreatitis *** this the animals were killed and the serum amylase,glucose and insulin levels as well as the plasma glucagon levels,the pancreatic mass/body mass ratio(pm/bm),the pancreatic contents of DNA,protein,amylase,lipase and trypsinogen were *** tissue samples were examined by light microscopy on paraffin-embedded sections. rESULTS:In the diabetic-pancreatitic rats treatment with insulin and CCK-8 significantly elevated pw/bm and the pancreatic contents of protein,amylase and lipase vs the rats receiving only CCK-8 ***-8 administered in combination with insulin also elevated the number of acinar cells with mitotic activities,whereas CCK-8 alone had no effect on laboratory parameters or the mitotic activities in diabetic-pancreatitic rats. Degradation of phenol in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket(UASB) reactor at ambient temperature

A synthetic wastewater containing phenol as sole substrate was treated in a 2 8 L upflow anaerobic sludge blanket(UASB) reactor at ambient temperature. The operation conditions and phenol removal efficiency were discussed, microbial population in the UASB sludge was identified based on DNA cloning, and pathway of anaerobic phenol degradation was proposed. phenol in wastewater was degraded in an UASB reactor at loading rate up to 18 gCOD/(L·d), with a 1:1 recycle ratio, at 26±1℃, pH 7 0—7 5. An UASB reactor was able to remove 99% of phenol up to 1226 mg/L in wastewater with 24 h of hydraulic retention time(HrT). For HrT below 24 h, phenol degradation efficiency decreased with HrT, from 95 4% at 16 h to 93 8% at 12 h. It further deteriorated to 88 5% when HrT reached 8 h. When the concentration of influent phenol of the reactor was 1260 mg/L(corresponding COD 3000 mg/L), with the HrT decreasing(from 40 h to 4 h, corresponding COD loading increasing), the biomass yields tended to increase from 0 265 to 3 08 g/(L·d). While at 12 h of HrT, the biomass yield was lower. When HrT was 12 h, the methane yield was 0 308 L/(gCOD removed), which was the highest. Throughout the study, phenol was the sole organic substrate. The effluent contained only residual phenol without any detectable intermediates, such as benzoate, 4 hydrobenzoate or volatile fatty acids(VFAs). Based on DNA cloning analysis, the sludge was composed of five groups of microorganisms. Desulfotomaculum and Clostridium were likely responsible for the conversion of phenol to benzoate, which was further degraded by Syntrophus to acetate and H 2/CO 2. Methanogens lastly converted acetate and H 2/CO 2 to methane. The role of epsilon proteobacteria was, however, unsure.

The effect of small addition of Sc on the microstructural evolution in Al-15Ag alloy was investigated by Monte Carlo simulation and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. Monte Carlo simulation results indicate that Ag clustering is suppressed by the addition of Sc during the initial ageing stage, and there is a little chemical repulsion between Ag atoms and Sc atoms. TEM observations show that the morphology of γ′ precipitation can be modified by the small addition of Sc, which does result in a refinement of γ′ precipitates in Al-15Ag-0.2Sc. The mechanism by which trace Sc affect the microstructure is to reduce the ledge density of γ′precipitates.

Thin films of nanostructured α-FeOwith thickness of 1 56,203 and 251 nm were deposited by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAr) method onto glass substrates using FeCl-6HO and NaOH as cationic and anionic *** X-ray diffraction studies revealed that,α-FeOthin films are nanocrystalline in nature with rhombohedral *** morphological properties were investigated by field emission scanning electron and atomic force *** optical studies showed that α-FeOexhibits direct as well as indirect optical band gap *** electrical resistivity of α-FeOat 305 K decreases from 11.76×102 to9.46 × 10~2 Ω cm as film thickness increases from 156 to 251 *** thermo-emf measurements confirmed that α-FeOexhibits n-type *** nanocrystalline α-FeOexhibits antibacterial character against Staphylococcus aureus and its efficiency increases from 37.50%to 87.50%depending on crystallite size.

This paper studies chaos synchronization in the modified Chua ' s circuitwith nonlinear quadratic function x|x| using a unidirectional Linear coupling approach. A newsufficient condition is derived for chaos synchronization between the two unidirectional coupledmodified Chua ' s circuits with x x I based on the Lyapunov stability theory. A simulation exampleis given for demonstration .
