Influence of Dimensions of UHMW-pE protuberances on Sliding Resistance and Normal Adhesion of Bangkok Clay Soil to Biomimetic plates

A number of investigations into application of polymers for macro-morphological modification of tool surface have been carried out. These researches, with extensive stress on convex or domed protuberations as one of the widely used construction units, have tried to harness benefits from using polymers in agriculture. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene （UHMW-pE） has proved an emerging polymer in its application to reduce soil adhesion. This research was conducted to study the effect of shape （flat, semi-spherical, semi-oblate, semi short-prolate and semi long-prolate） and dimensions （base diameter and dome height） on sliding resistance and normal adhesion of biomimetic plates. To incorporate both shape and size, a dimensionless ratio of height to diameter （HDR） was introduced to characterize the effect of construction unit＇s physique. Experiments were conducted in Bangkok clay soil with dry （ 19.8% d.b.）, sticky （36.9% d.b.） and flooded （60.1% d.b.） soil conditions respectively. Soil at sticky limit exhibited the highest sliding resistance （77.8 N） and normal adhesion （3 kpa to 7 kpa）, whereas these values were 61.7 N and 〈0.2 kpa in dry, and 53.7 N and 0.5 kpa to 1.5 kpa in flooded soil conditions. protuberances with HDR ≤ 0.5 lowered sliding resistance by 10% - 30% and the same reduced normal adhesion by 10% - 60%. The amount of reduction in both sliding resistance and normal adhesion was higher in flooded soil. Lighter normal loads obviously produced lesser resistance and adhesion.

promising light converting BaMoO_4:Er^(3+)-Tm^(3+)-Yb^(3+) phosphors for display and optical temperature sensing

Er-Tm3+-Ybtri-doped BaMoOphosphors were synthesized by co-precipitation technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, absorption study and field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis. Upconversion as well as downconversion luminescence studies were performed by using near infrared(980 nm) and ultraviolet(380 nm) excitations. Energy level diagram, pump power dependence and colour coordinate study were utilized to describe the multicolor upconversion emission properties. Under single 980 nm diode laser excitation the dual mode sensing behaviour is realized via Stark sublevels and thermally coupled energy levels of the Tm3+ and Erions in the prepared tri-doped phosphors. A comparative fluorescence intensity ratio analysis for integrated emission intensities arising from the Stark sublevels {~1 G4(a)) and ~1 G4(b))} and thermally coupled energy levels {~2 Hand 4 S3/2} of the Tm3+ and Er3+ ions, respectively was carried out in the prepared tri-doped BaMoOphosphors. The maximum sensitivity for thermally coupled energy levels of the Er3+ and Stark sublevels of the Tm3+ ion was reported. The developed phosphors could be useful in the display devices and optical thermo metric applications.

Energy balance and environmental impacts of rice and wheat production:A case study in Nepal

Energy and environment are the key concerns in todays’*** study investigated energy balance and environmental impact of rice and wheat production systems in terms of energy ratio,impact of energy inputs to the crop yield and CO2e(carbon dioxide equivalent)emissions under terai and hill geographical regions of *** data were collected from 139 randomly selected farms by using structured *** results revealed that the total energy consumption in rice and wheat production were 9.70 GJ/hm^(2)(terai)to 11.78 GJ/hm^(2)(hill)and 8.40 GJ/hm^(2)(hill)to 10.95 GJ/hm^(2)(terai),*** energy balance of rice and wheat production were found 46.33 GJ/hm^(2)(hill)to 59.29 GJ/hm^(2)(terai)and 27.14 GJ/hm^(2)(terai)to 38.52 GJ/hm^(2)(hill),respectively,where energy use efficiency in terai and hill were found to be 7.14 and 4.97 in rice,and 3.49 and 5.59 in wheat,*** contribution of fertilizer on impacts was significant among other energy inputs in rice and wheat production in both geographical *** CO_(2)e emissions from rice and wheat were higher by 52%and 78%in hill as compared to respective crop rice(1786 kg CO_(2)e/hm^(2))and wheat(843 kg CO2e/hm^(2))in *** study showed that rice production system in terai is more energy and environmentally efficient,whilst wheat production in hill is more energy efficient.

Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae uses XopL effector to suppress pomegranate immunity

Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae （Xap） causing bacterial blight is an important pathogen that incurs significant losses to the exportability of pomegranate. Xap uses the Xop TTSS-effector, via the type three secretion system, to suppress pomegranate immunity. Here, we investigate the role of XopL during blight pathogenesis. We observed that XopL is essential for its in planta growth and full virulence. Leaves inoculated with Xap AxopL produced restricted water-soaked lesions compared to those inoculated with wild-type Xap. XopL supports Xap for its sustained multiplication in pomegranate by suppress- ing the plant cell death （pCD） event. We further demon- strated that XopL suppresses immune responses, such as callose deposition and production of reactive oxygen species （ROS）. RT-qpCR analysis revealed that immune responsive genes were upregulated when challenged with Xap AxopL, whereas upregulation of such genes was compromised in the complemented strain containing the xopL gene. The transiently expressed XopL：：EYFp fusion protein was local- ized to the plasma membrane, indicating the possible site of its action. Altogether, this study highlights that XopL is an important TTSS-effector of Xap that suppresses plant immune responses, including pCD, presumably to support the multiplication of Xap for a sufficient time-period during blight disease development.

In the current context,a smart grid has replaced the conventional grid through intelligent energy management,integration of renewable energy sources(RES)and two-way communication infrastructures from power gen-eration to *** management from the distribution side is a critical problem for balancing load demand.A unique energy manage-ment strategy(EMS)is being developed for office building *** includes renewable energy integration,automation,and control based on the Artificial Neural Network(ANN)system using Matlab *** strategy reduces electric power consumption and balances the load demand of the traditional *** strategy is developed by taking inputs from an office building electricity consumption behavior study,a power generation study of a solar photovoltaic system,and the supply pattern of a grid in peak and non-peak *** this is done in consideration of the Indian scenario,where real-time data of month-wise ANN-based intelligent switching has been established for intermittent renewable sources and peak load reduction,as well as average load reduction,has been demonstrated along with the power control loop without the battery system.

Comparative measurement of CO_(2),CH_(4)and CO at two traffic interjunctions having inflated vehicular flow in Delhi

Vehicular emissions are considered one of the major anthropogenic sources of greenhouse gases and poor air quality in metropolitan *** study aims to see the correlation of CO_(2),CH_(4),and CO through monitoring over a period from December 2020 to October 2021 covering three seasons’winter,summer,and monsoon at two different traffic locations of Delhi having different traffic volumes,road patterns,and traffic *** annual average morning concentration of CO_(2),CH_(4)and CO was found(533±105),(7.3±3.1),(10.7±3.0)ppm at Najafgarh and(480±70),(5.2±1.8),(7.8±2.8)ppm at Rajendra place,respectively.A relationship between concentration of all three gases and meteorological parameters such as temperature,humidity,wind speed and wind direction has also been investigated using pearson correlation coefficient and pollution rose diagram.A comparable pattern in concentration was observed for all three gases in spatial(location)and temporal(diurnal)*** concentration trend of CO_(2)in different seasons is winter>summer>monsoon,while in the case of CH_(4)winter=summer>monsoon but not any seasonal trend was noted in CO *** is observed that CO_(2)has a good relation with CO(a tracer for vehicular emission)in terms of diurnal variation,whereas,CH_(4)does not represent a relation with CO and CO_(2)diurnally,suggesting that vehicles are the source of CO_(2)but not much contributing to other greenhouse gases like CH_(4).

prostate-specific antigen （pSA） testing has been widely used to screen men for prostate cancer （pCa） and to monitor pCa progression. However, more studies have shown that around 15% of men with low or normal pSA levels have pCa. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship of androgen and pSA levels and to better understand the reason that some pCa patients have low serum pSA values. The in vitro data demonstrated that cultured LNCap cells ceased to produce pSA after androgen withdrawal and resumed pSA production after androgen was re-added. The in vivo experiment results showed that 48% of pCa xenografts carrying mice have serum pSA level lower than 4 ng ml^-1. The serum pSA levels increased significantly with rises in testosterone （T） levels 1 week after T pellet implantation. These data indicated that the androgen is a key factor controlling the production of pSA. Low serum pSA levels in mice with pCa xenografts are associated with low serum T levels. Raising serum T levels in tumor caring mice will also significantly increase serum pSA level. This may have clinical implications when screening pSA in men, who have occult pCa.
