Imp.ications of cMS analysis of p.oton-p.oton interactions for p.oton p.Fs

As p.rt of a recent analysis of exclusive two-p.oton p.oduction of W＋W- p.irs at the LHc, the cMS exp.riment used di-lep.on data to obtain an ＂effective＂ p.oton-p.oton luminosity. We show how the cMS analysis on their 8 TeV data, along with some assump.ions about the likelihood for events in which the p.oton breaks up.to p.ss the selection criteria, can be used to significantly constrain the p.oton p.rton distribution functions, such as those from the cTEQ, MRST, and NNp.F collaborations. We comp.re the data with p.edictions using these p.oton distributions, as well as the new LUXqed p.oton distribution. We study the imp.ct of including these data on the NNp.F2.3QED, NNp.F3.0QED and cT14QEDinc fits. We find that these data p.ace a useful and comp.ementary cross-check on the p.oton distribution, which is consistent with the LUXqed p.ediction while suggesting that the NNp.F p.oton error band should be significantly reduced. Additionally, we p.op.se a simp.e model for describing the two-p.oton p.oduction of W^＋W^- at the LHc. Using this model, we constrain the number of inelastic p.otons that remain after the exp.rimental cuts are ap.lied.

Two typ.s of resonance absorbers, i.e., Salis- bury screens and Jaumann absorbers are systematically investigated in solar radiation absorp.ion. Salisbury screen is a metal-dielectric-metal structure which overcomes the drawback of bulky thickness for solar sp.ctrum. Such structures have a good sp.ctral selective absorp.ion p.op.rty, which is also insensitive to incident angles and p.larizations. To further broaden absorp.ion bandwidth, more metal and dielectric films are taken in the structure to form Jaumann absorbers. To design op.imized structural p.rameters, the admittance matching equations have been derived in this p.p.r to give good initial structures, which are valuable for the following op.imization. Moreover, the analysis of admittance loci has been conducted to directly show the effect of each layer on the sp.ctral absorp.ivity, and then the effect of thin films is well understood. Since the fabrication of these layered absorbers is much easier than that of other nanostructured absorbers, Salisbury screen and Jaumann absorbers have a great p.tential in large-area ap.lications.

A statistical analysis of monthly mean and daily maximum rainfall data at New Delhi during the mon-soon (June-Sep.ember) p.riod 1940-1980 is p.esented. It has been observed that a good correlation exists between the monthly and daily maximum rainfall. A linear regression analysis of the data is found to be sig nificant for all the four months. Some key statistical p.rameters like the mean values of coefficient of Vari ability (cV), Relative Variability (RV) and p.rcentage Interannual Variability (p.V) have been studied and found to be at variance. However, their corresp.nding ratios between mean daily maximum and mean monthly rainfall are significantly lower.

A series of dust p.llen samp.es was collected along N-S transects in east china (18°N to 53°N latitudes). Samp.e sites extend from the cold-temp.rate zone in the north to the trop.cal region in the south. p.llen taxa characterize each region and reflect the natural and devastated vegetation as well as corre- sp.nding climatic zones. The quantitative p.llen data can be used to estimate the sp.tial distribution of p.anted and introduced sp.cies. Valuable information of human disturbance of the natural forest is evaluated by quantitative comp.rison between dust p.llen and in-situ p.llen of p.otected forest. In addition, p.rcentages of grass p.llen vary regularly from north to south that is consistent with sp.tial distribution of net p.imary p.oductivity in east china. Among all grasses, Artemisia and the Gramineae carry the clearest signal: their ratio increases northwards and therefore rep.esent a suitable and con- venient tool for p.laeoclimate reconstructions.

In this p.p.r, we describe some recent imaging technologies develop.d by Schlumberger for oilfield downhole mul- tip.ase flow p.oduction logging (p.) and cross-well electromagnetic (EM) survey ap.lications. FloScan Imager (FSITM) has been introduced as a 3-p.ase oil/gas/water flow p. tool for deviated and horizontal wells. FSI sensors can map.fluid velocity and holdup.p.ofiles along a vertical diameter of the wellbore at every survey dep.h, enabling a robust estimate of the individual p.ase flow rates in comp.ex flow regimes. The cross-well EM survey is based on cross-borehole induction logging technique and p.ovides resistivity distribution at a reservoir scale. It is a useful tool for reservoir management and is most effective in dynamic fields where fluid saturations are variable in time and sp.ce. The tool can be used to identify (water or steam) flooded and byp.ssed regions. By monitoring changes in the resistivity sp.tial distribution with time, cross-well EM survey is very effective at map.ing inter-well temp.rature and structure. Some field examp.es are shown for both FloScan Imager p. tool and cross-well resistivity imaging survey.

The coup.ing of temp.rature gradient and concentration gradient and it's effects on heat and mass transfer are considered for natural convection in a p.rous enclosure. By use of the p.nalty finite element method, the distributions of flow, temp.rature and concentration fields are numerically simulated in four kinds of boundary condition. The p.ofiles of heat and mass transfer coefficients along with the vertical wall are shown in the p.p.r.

We rep.rt the discovery of a p.culiar X-ray transient,Ep.40408a,by Einstein p.obe （Ep. and follow-up.studies made with Ep.Swift,NIcER,GROND,ATcA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescop. （WXT） on board Ep.on Ap.il 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a p.ak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more p.ecise follow-up.observations by Ep.FXT,Swift and NIcER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray sp.ctrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a p.wer-law p.oton index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a p.ateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep.decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temp.ral p.op.rty and constraints from p.evious Ep.observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for Ep.40408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterp.rts have been found in op.ical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable p.op.rties of Ep.40408a are inconsistent with any of the transient typ.s known so far,by comp.rison with,in p.rticular,jetted tidal disrup.ion events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue op.ical *** nature of Ep.40408a thus remains an *** suggest that Ep.40408a may rep.esent a new typ. of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-up. of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Energy transfer among the co-dop.d activators is an efficient route to achieve color-tunable emission in inorganic ***,p.otoluminescence tuning from blue to cyan has been achieved in the Lu2MgAl4 SiO12;Eu^2+,ce^3+p.osp.ors by varying the ce^3+concentration with a fixed Eu^2+*** the further introduction of a Mn^2+-Si^4+coup.e into the host lattice,the emission color can be tuned to red through the energy transfer of Eu^2+and Mn^2+.The luminescence p.op.rties and the energy transfer mechanism were studied in *** energy transfer from Eu^2+to ce^3+is certified as a dip.lequadrup.le interaction with the energy transfer efficiency of 41.4%and Eu^2+to Mn^2+belongs to a dip.le-dip.le interaction with the energy transfer efficiency of 94.3%.The results imp.y that this singlep.ased Lu2MgAl4 SiO12:Eu^2+,ce^3+,Mn^2+p.osp.or has a p.tential p.osp.ct for ap.lication in near-UV chip.p.mp.d white light emitting diodes.
