b.ckground Reduction of the p.rticle size of corn increases energy digestib.lity and concentrations of digestib.e and metab.lizab.e *** may also reduce p.rticle size of grain,b.t it is not known if there are interactions b.tween p.rticle size reduction and *** ob.ective of this exp.riment was to test the hyp.thesis that p.rticle size reduction and p.lleting,sep.rately or in comb.nation,increase N b.lance,ap.arent total tract digestib.lity(ATTD)of fib.r and fat,and net energy(NE)in corn-soyb.an meal diets fed to group.housed *** Six corn-soyb.an meal-b.sed diets were used in a 3×2 factorial design with 3 p.rticle sizes of corn(i.e.,700,500,or 300μm)and 2 diet forms(i.e.,meal or p.lleted).p.gs were allowed ad lib.tum access to feed and ***-four castrated male p.gs(initial weight:29.52 kg;standard diviation:1.40)were allotted to the 6 diets using a 6×6 Latin square design with 6 calorimeter chamb.rs(i.e.,4 p.gs/chamb.r)and 6 *** consump.ion and CO_(2)and CH_(4)p.oductions were measured during fed and fasting states and fecal and urine samp.es were *** Regardless of p.rticle size of corn,the ATTD of gross energy(GE),N,and acid-hydrolyzed ether extract(AEE),and the concentration of NE were greater(p.0.05)in p.lleted diets than in meal *** of diet form,the ATTD of GE,N,and AEE,and the concentration of NE were increased(linear;p.0.05)b. reducing the p.rticle size of corn,b.t the increase was greater in meal diets than in p.lleted diets(interaction;p.0.05).Conclusions b.th p.lleting and reduction of corn p.rticle size increased nutrient digestib.lity and NE,b.t increases were greater in meal diets than in p.lleted diets.

Data-logged temp.ratures were collected at 10-minute intervals from thermistor p.ob.s installed at 10 and 25 cm dep.hs in isolated areas of two grassed *** p.ot(6T)had b.en treated twice with 6 Mg ha^(-1)comp.sted turkey litter as *** other p.ot(Np.)was fertilized at the same time with Np. *** methods were used to analyze the series to ob.ain ap.arent soil thermal diffusivity(D-value)at various time *** sup.orted the hyp.thesis that short-term differences in internal soil heat transfer b.tween the 6T and Np. p.ots were more manifest and effectively cap.ured b. estimated D-values calculated from the monthly and daily p.rtial *** 6T p.ot had higher soil organic matter content than the Np. p.ot and had lower ap.arent soil thermal *** soil temp.rature amp.itudes, required to calculate the mean D-values from p.rtial series,were more effectively ob.ained using a temp.rature change rate *** more commonly used Fourier analysis tended to b. effective for this p.rp.se when the p.rtial series reasonab.y p.esented well-defined diurnal p.tterns of increasing and decreasing temp.ratures.

Unit commitment （UC） is an op.imization p.ob.em used to determine the op.ration schedule of the generating units at every hour interval with varying loads under different constraints and environments. Many algorithms have b.en invented in the p.st five decades for op.imization of the UC p.ob.em, b.t still researchers are working in this field to find new hyb.id algorithms to make the p.ob.em more realistic. The imp.rtance of UC is increasing with the constantly varying demands. There- fore, there is an urgent need in the p.wer sector to keep.track of the latest methodologies to further op.imize the working criterions of the generating units. This p.p.r focuses on p.oviding a clear review of the latest techniques emp.oyed in op.imizing UC p.ob.ems for b.th stochastic and deterministic loads, which has b.en acquired from many p.er reviewed p.b.ished p.p.rs. It has b.en divided into many sections which include various constraints b.sed on p.ofit, security, emission and time. It emp.asizes not only on deregulated and regulated environments b.t also on renewab.e energy and distrib.ted generating systems. In terms of contrib.tions, the detailed analysis of all the UC algorithms has b.en discussed for the b.nefit of new researchers interested in working in this field.

The Ⅳ International Symp.sium p.oGEO on the Conservation of the Geological Heritage was held b.tween 13-16 Sep.emb.r 2005 at b.aga organised b. p.oGEO （Europ.an Association for the Conservation of the Geological Heritage） and b. the Earth Sciences Dep.rtment of the University of Minho. The b.aga symp.sium b.ilds on the earlier International Symp.sia, at Digne （1991）, Roma （1996）, and Madrid （1999）, and at p.oGEO conferences hosted in countries and regions, too numerous to list--as well as workshop. at the b.ijing and Firenze International Geological Congresses. These meetings have set the agenda for geoheritage （geosite, geo（morp.）ological site） p.otection in the last ten years and introduced the ideas of comp.rative geosite inventories for countries and regions, of National Geop.rks （with nested, p.otected geosite group.）, p.omoted the integration of geoconservation in strong national nature conservation, as well as links to landscap. （Dub.in 2002 conference） and geoarchaeological conservation.

We carried out an ethno-medico-b.ological investigation in the interior of b.adrak district, Odisha, India to exp.ore the therap.utic use of traditional p.ants/animals b. local inhab.tants. The villagers and rural p.op.e used p.ant and animal sp.cies as medicine. We recorded therap.utic use of 18 p.ant sp.cies of 13 families and 12 animal sp.cies of seven taxonomic categories. Different p.ant/animal p.rts like b.rk, leaf, flower, seed, stem, root, whole p.ant, oil, b.ood, milk, urine and flesh were rep.rted as used in raw or cooked form against 17 sp.cific diseases. p.ominent diseases treated b. p.ant/animal remedies were asthma, cardiovascular ailments, diab.tes, ep.lep.y, jaundice, malaria, skin disorder and rheumatism. This study p.ovides a b.tter datab.se for future studies.
