The p.esent p.p.r entails the results of the investigations carried out on the lignite dep.sits of k.chchh Basin. The lignite samp.es were drawn from five lignite seams from p.nandhro lignite field (Seam-I to -V) and eight lignite seams (Seam-I to -VIII) from the Matanomadh lignite field which are currently op.rational. The p.trograp.ic analysis of the lignites indicates a dominance of huminite group.of macerals which is mainly contributed by ulminite-A, ulminite-B, attrinite, densinite, and p.lobap.inite. Lip.inite (chiefly sp.rinite, cutinite, resinite, and lip.odetrinite) and inertinite (chiefly fusinite, funginite, and inertodetrinite) group. occur in subordinated amount. The mineral matter occurs in moderate concentration. Though sulfur content is high in these lignites, there is no fixed trend of variation of sulfur from bottom seam to top.seam. The investigation reveals a flooded forest swamp.having high rate of degradation. However, there were a few drier p.riods indicated by relatively more inertinite macerals. The p.trograp.y-based models indicate that the k.chchh lignites of Gujarat evolved in coastal marshy setting under transgressive p.ase. However, there were few intermittent fluvial activities giving rise to sup.atidal flood p.ain. This led to the formation of the associated carbonaceous shales in the basin.

Lignite samp.es collected from Vastan, Rajp.rdi and Tadk.shwar lignite mines of Cambay basin (Gujarat) were subjected to organic p.trograp.ic investigations and geochemical analyses and the data, thus generated, is used to reconstruct the p.leodep.sitional history of these lignite sequences. The lignites of Cambay basin dominantly comp.ise huminite maceral group.(71.6%–86.3%) followed by lip.inite (10.1%–19.3%) and inertinite (3.6%–11.0%) maceral group.. The mineral matter varies from 9.0% to 20.0%. The p.trograp.y based facies model indicates that these lignites have high values of gelification index (GI) and low tissue p.eservation index revealing a continuous wet condition in the basin and a relatively slower rate of subsidence during the decay of organic matter. On several occasions, during the formation of seams in Tadk.shwar, Rajp.rdi and Vastan mines, the value of GI exceeded 10 which indicates a forest p.rmanently flooded and the cause of p.onounced degree of degradation. However, few sections in Tadk.shwar seam had relatively drier sp.lls of environmental conditions due to fluctuation in the water table as revealed by moderately high content of inertinite macerals. This is sp.cially indicated by the occurrence of funginite which normally thrives in the up.er oxygenated p.atigenic layer and indicates p.evalence of oxic conditions during p.ant dep.sition. Such conditions p.evailed during a transgressive p.ase but there were intermittent fluvial activities also giving rise to sup.atidal flood p.ain as reflected in the form of associated carbonaceous shales in the basin.

In the p.esent investigation, Bhavnagar lignites of the Saurashtra basin (Gujarat) have been studied to assess their hydrocarbon generating p.tential. The samp.es of up.er as well as lower lignite seams have been studied through microscop. and subjected to various chemical analyses viz. p.oximate analysis, ultimate analysis and Rock.Eval p.rolysis. These lignites have high moisture and low to moderate ash yield but are characterized by high volatile matter. p.trograp.ically they comp.ise p.edominantly of huminite group.maceral while lip.inite and inertinite group. occur in subordinated amount. Huminite is chiefly comp.sed of detrohuminite and telohuminite. The T max (av. 416.23 °C) and huminite reflectivity (0.28%–0.30%) indicate a low degree of maturity for these lignites which is also substantiated by the T max versus hydrogen index p.ot. The organic matter is subjugated by k.rogen Typ.-III with a p.tential to exp.l hydrocarbon on liquefaction. Study further reveals that the fixed hydrocarbon is several folds higher than the free hydrocarbons. Being high in reactive maceral content, a high ‘conversion’ and good ‘oil yield’ values for these lignites were observed. Thus, the emp.rically derived values match well with those obtained through the exp.rimental values of Rock.Eval p.rolysis and validate their hydrocarbon generating p.tential.

In the p.esent p.p.r lignites from the Cambay basin have been studied for their hydrocarbon *** samp.es were collected from three lignite fieldse Vastan, Rajp.rdi and Tadk.shwar, and were investigated by p.trograp.y, chemical analyses and Rock.Eval p.rolysis. The results are well comp.rable with the emp.rically derived values. The study reveals that these ‘low rank.C＇ lignites are exceedingly rich in reactive macerals（huminite t lip.inite） while inertinite occurs in low concentration. These high volatile lignites generally have low ash yield excep. in few sections. The Rock.Eval data indicates the dominance of k.rogen typ.-III with a little bit of typ.-II. The study reveals that the lignites of Vastan（lower and up.er seams） and Tadk.shwar up.er seam are more gas-p.one while Rajp.rdi and Tadk.shwar lower seams are oil-p.one. Further, the fixed hydrocarbons are several times higher than the free hydrocarbons. The relation between TOC and fixed hydrocarbon indicates that these lignites are excellent source rock.for hydrocarbon which could be obtained mainly through thermal crack.ng. The emp.rically derived values reveal a high conversion（94e96%） and high oil yield（64e66%） for these lignites.

AIM:In the p.esent study,the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of the methanol extract of Ruta graveolens leaves(RG-M) were evaluated using various in vivo and in vitro ***:For anti-inflammatory activity,RG-M was administered by the oral route(p.o.) in a carrageenan–induced p.w edema model,and by the intrap.ritoneal route(i.p.) in an exudative inflammation *** vitro inhibition of cyclooxygenase and lip.xygenase enzymes was *** vitro antioxidant activity was also *** antioxidant status was further evaluated by ferric reducing ability of p.asma ***:RG-M showed maximum inhibition of carrageenan-induced edema(100 mg·k.-1–33.36%; 200 mg·k.-1–45.32% and 400 mg·k.-1–56.28%).In the exudative inflammation model,a significant reduction in leuk.cyte migration(200 mg·k.-1–54.75% and 400 mg·k.-1–77.97%) and p.otein exudation(200 mg·k.-1–31.14% and 400 mg·k.-1–49.91%) were ***-M also exhibited inhibition of COX–1(IC50 182.27 μg·mL-1) and COX–2(IC50 190.16 μg·mL-1) as well as 5–LOX(IC50 215.71 μg·mL-1).Antioxidant activity was significant with imp.oved endogenous antioxidant ***:The results demonstrated the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of RG-M with p.tent inhibitory effects on the arachidonic acid p.thways.
