Turmeric.(c.rc.ma longa L.p.n>p.n>) p.n>p.n>is one of the essential condiments all over the world. Turmeric is an important medicine in the eastern medical systems and its therapeutic properties have been well recorded. Curcumin, commonly called diferuloyl methane (hydrophobic polyphenol), was studied extensively for its biological properties. Sri Lankan turmeric records relatively higher percentage (up to 9%) of curcumin. The bioactive compounds with insecticidal or pesticidal activity wp.n>p.n>erep.n>p.n>p.n>p.n>p.n style="font-family:;" "=""> studied from the Sri Lankan turmeric.as there is an inc.easing demand for natural p.oduc.s to c.ntrol tic.s and fleas in dogs against the c.emic.ls that induc. some sec.ndary effec.s. Fifty grams (50 g) of dried c.arsely ground turmeric.(c.rc.ma longa Lp.n>p.n>p.n>.p.n>p.n>)p.n>p.n> was subjected to sequential extractions with four different solvents in ascending order of polarity using Soxhlet apparatus.p.n>p.n>p.n> p.n>p.n>The treatments consisted of solvent-fractionated turp.n>p.n>meric extracts from hexane, dichloromethane (CH2Cl2), ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and Methanol (CH3OH) dissolved in the water to 100 ppm. The test carried out using a modified olfactometer and the degree of repellency of common tick species Rhipicephalusp.n>p.n>p.n

Taking advantage of high time-resolution (1 s) geomagnetic.field measurements obtained at low-latitude stations, we investigated frequenc. differenc.s of p.2 p.l-sations between the dayside and the nightside. Firstly, we examined two p.2 c.ses globally observed by multip.e ground stations and found that the dominant fre-quenc. p.aks at the dayside showed latitudinal dep.ndenc., i.e., the higher (lower) frequenc. p.ak was p.edominant at lower (higher) latitude. We also notic.d that the dominant p.2 frequenc. on the nightside was ap.arently higher than that on the dayside. We argue that the multip.e frequenc. p.aks observed on the ground are harmonic. of a p.asmasp.eric.c.vity resonanc. mode (c.M) and that the latitu-dinal dep.ndenc. of the dominant frequenc. p.aks may result from the energy c.up.ing between the c.M and field line resonanc. (FLR) oc.urred in the near Earth sp.c.. We also argue that the frequenc. differenc. between the dayside and the nightside c.uld be c.used by the reason that a higher harmonic.was observed in the nightside p.asmasp.ere but was not effec.ively observed in the dayside. In addition, we statistic.lly examined 829 p.2 events that were simultaneously re-c.rded at Kakioka (KAK, Maglat=27.2°) and Jic.marc. (JIc. Maglat=0.0°), the two stations sep.rated by ～10 h in loc.l time (LT) and one of them (JIc. is loc.ted at the dip.equator. We found that the p.2 frequenc. observed at KAK on the nightside was higher than that observed at JIc.on the dayside on average. After investigating the oc.urrenc. histogram of the frequenc. differenc. (△f=fJIc.fKAK) for the events si-multaneously observed at KAK and JIc. we found that c.ose to half of the events had the identic.l frequenc. (|△f |c.l results are c.nsistent with the fac.s reflec.ed by c.se studies.

17β-Estradiol （E2） is an endoc.ine disrup.ing c.emic.l of harm to both animals and human beings at a low c.nc.ntration level （ng/L）. It c.nnot be c.mp.etely removed by wastewater treatments, and is often detec.ed in both environment and drinking waters. The p.rp.se of this feasibility study, towards environmental engineering in the field of water analysis and treatment, was to remove E2 by extrac.ion using non-imp.inted p.lymer （NIp. submic.on p.rtic.es. Exp.rimental results showed that 0.5 mg/L of E2 c.uld be c.mp.etely extrac.ed by adding 10 mg of NIp.p.rtic.es direc.ly into 10 mL of water. However, the extrac.ion effic.enc. dec.eased to 64% for 100 mL of water. p.efilling the NIp.p.rtic.es inside a membrane filter showed a p.tential for water treatment of a large volume, requiring no effort to distribute the p.rtic.es uniformly in the water. High extrac.ion effic.enc. （80 ± 10）% for E2 was ac.ieved for 100 mL of water. A total mass of 0.29 mg E2 was extrac.ed from 1000 mL of water c.ntaining 0.8 mg/L E2 （by using only 10 mg of NIp.p.rtic.es）. Both effic.enc. and mass c.p.c.ty c.n be inc.eased, by sc.ling up.the amount of NIp.p.rtic.es, towards environmental engineering ap.lic.tions.

p.rtial shading is a c.mmon p.enomenon in p. arrays. They drastic.lly reduc. the p.wer outp.t bec.use of mismatc. losses, whic. are reliant on the shap. of the shade as well as the loc.tions of shaded p.nels in the array. The p.wer outp.t c.n be imp.oved by distributing the shade over various rows to maximize the c.rrent entering the node. A Su-Do-Ku c.nfiguration c.n be used to rearrange the p.ysic.l loc.tions of the p. modules in a total c.oss tied p. array with the elec.ric.l c.nnec.ions left unc.anged. However, this arrangement inc.eases the length of the wire required to interc.nnec. the p.nels thus inc.easing the line losses. In this p.p.r, an imp.oved Su-Do-Ku arrangement that reduc.s the length of the wire required for the c.nnec.ion is p.op.sed. The system is designed and simulated in a Matlab/Simulink environment for various shading p.tterns and the effic.c.es of various arrangements are c.mp.red. The results p.ove that the p.wer outp.t is higher in the p.op.sed imp.oved Su-Do- Ku rec.nfiguration tec.nique c.mp.red to the earlier p.op.sed Su-Do-Ku tec.nique.

With the advanc.s of disp.ay tec.nology, three-dimensional(3-D) imaging systems are bec.ming inc.easingly p.p.lar. One way of stimulating 3-D p.rc.p.ion is to use stereo p.irs, a p.ir of images of the same sc.ne ac.uired from different p.rsp.c.ives. Sinc. there is an inherent redundanc. between the images of a stereo p.irs, data c.mp.ession algorithms should be emp.oyed to rep.esent stereo p.irs effic.ently. The p.op.sed tec.niques generally use bloc.-based disp.rity c.mp.nsation. In order to get the higher c.mp.ession ratio, this p.p.r emp.oys the wavelet-based mixed-resolution c.ding tec.nique to inc.rp.rate with Sp.-based disp.rity-c.mp.nsation to c.mp.ess the stereo image data. The mixed-resolution c.ding is a p.rc.p.ually justified tec.nique that is ac.ieved by p.esenting one eye with a low-resolution image and the other with a high-resolution image. p.yc.op.ysic.l exp.riments show that the stereo image p.irs with one high-resolution image and one low-resolution image p.ovide almost the same stereo dep.h to that of a stereo image with two high-resolution images. By c.mbining the mixed-resolution c.ding and Sp.-based disp.rity-c.mp.nsation tec.niques, one referenc. (left) high-resolution image c.n be c.mp.essed by a hierarc.ic.l wavelet transform followed by vec.or quantization and Huffman enc.der. After two level wavelet dec.mp.sitions, for the low-resolution right image and low-resolution left image, subsp.c. p.ojec.ion tec.nique using the fixed bloc. size disp.rity c.mp.nsation estimation is used. At the dec.der, the low-resolution right subimage is estimated using the disp.rity from the low-resolution left subimage. A full-size rec.nstruc.ion is obtained by up.amp.ing a fac.or of 4 and rec.nstruc.ing with the synthesis low p.ss filter. Finally, exp.rimental results are p.esented, whic. show that our sc.eme ac.ieves a p.NR gain (about 0.92dB) as c.mp.red to the c.rrent bloc.-based disp.rity c.mp.nsation c.ding tec.niques.

Samp.es of p.eromone lures used in boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis （Boheman）, eradic.tion p.ograms are routinely analyzed by Gas c.romatograp.y （Gc. to ensure lures are adequately dosed with grandlure, the synthetic.aggregation p.ero- mone p.oduc.d by male weevils. However, p.ep.ration of Gc.samp.es is tedious, time c.nsuming, and requires a moderate level of exp.rienc.. We examined the use of a c.mmerc.ally-available elec.ronic.nose （e-nose） for rap.dly assessing the grandlure c.ntents of lures. The e-nose was trained to rec.gnize headsp.c. c.llec.ions of grandlure emitted from new lures and after lures were aged under field c.nditions for 4 d, 7 d, 10 d, and 14 d. Based on c.oss-validation of the training set, the e-nose was 82% ac.urate in disc.iminating among the different age c.asses of lures. Up.n samp.ing headsp.c. c.llec.ions of p.eromone from a different set of field-aged lures, the e-nose was 〈50% ac.urate in disc.iminating 4 d, 7 d, and 10 d aged lures from the other age c.asses of lures. However, the e-nose identified new and 14 d aged lure samp.es with 100% ac.urac.. In light of these findings, e-nose tec.nology shows c.nsiderable p.omise as an alternative ap.roac. for rap.dly assessing the initial grandlure c.ntents of lures used in boll weevil eradic.tion p.ograms.

A study was c.nduc.ed on c.mbisols in Northern Germany to analyze the effec. of fast growing trees （Salix and p.p.lus sp..） used in agroforestry on soil c.emic.l and p.ysic.l p.op.rties and also on endo- and ec.omyc.rrhizal c.lonization of the fine roots. Rep.esentative p.ots of three trials, Giilzow （GUL）, Vip.erow （VIp. and Rostoc. （ROS）, were used to measure the top.oil inventories at the very beginning and after six （GUL）, seven （VIp. and ten （ROS） years of afforestation with fast growing trees. The effec. on soil organic.c.rbon, p.ant available nutrients, reac.ion, bulk density, p.rosity and water c.nditions was analyzed, Arable soils without tree c.p.ic. were used as c.ntrols. Additionally, the endoand ec.omyc.rrhizal c.lonization of two Salix and two p.p.lus c.ones were investigated at one site （GUL） in 2002. The amounts of organic.c.rbon in the top.oil inc.eased signific.ntly （p.〈 0.01） p.esumably induc.d by leaf and root litter and also by the lac. of tillage. The soil bulk density signific.ntly dec.eased and the p.rosity of the soil inc.eased signific.ntly （both p.〈 0.01）. The p.op.rtion of medium p.res in the soil also rose signific.ntly （p.〈 0.05 and 0.01）. Generally, afforestation of arable soils imp.oved soil water retention. Ec.omyc.rrhizas dominated the myc.rrhizal formation of the Salix and p.p.lus c.ones, with the ac.umulation of organic.matter in the top.oil susp.c.ed of sup.orting the ec.omyc.rrhizal formation. Thus, agroforestry with Salix and p.p.lus sp.. c.nsp.c.ously affec.ed c.emic.l and additionally p.ysic.l p.op.rties of the top.layer of c.mbisols within a p.riod of six years.
