Late clinical characteristics of infants with retinopathy of prematurity and treated with cryotherapy

AIM： To describe the clinical characteristics and late results of patients with retinopathy of prematurity（ROP）treated with ＂6h cryotherapy＂.·METHODS： Out of 1252 infants screened for ROP, 52 patients were treated with temporal 6h cryotherapy from1997 to 2005 were recalled to our clinic. Among these 23 patients were available and 46 eyes of 23 infants were included to evaluate for visual acuity, refractive error,ocular alignment, nystagmus, retinal examination（abnormal branching of retinal vessels, retinal thinning,latis degenerations, tortuosity of vessels, straightening of temporal vessels, narrowing of the angle of vessel in the juxtapapillary entrance, pigment changes, macular heterotopia）, optic atrophy and optic disc cupping, axial length at birth and axial length at 1y.·RESULTS： The median age at examination was 7（5-18）*** 32.6% of patients, the visual acuity was ≤20/200 and the mean best corrected visual acuity was 20/35 as measured with a Snellen chart. Mean spherical refractive error was-1.76±2.69 D. The degree of myopia at the last examination was found to be correlated with the elongation of the eye in the first year of life. Exotropia was present in 17.4%（n =8） of infants and esotropia in13%（n =6）. The most common retinal abnormality was abnormal branching of retinal vessels（82.6%） followed by retinal thinning（52.2%）.·CONCLUSION： The late clinical outcomes of infants with ROP treated in our clinic with cryotherapy seems to comparable with results of laser treatment.

With the development of aircraft equipment, conventional navigation is the shift from performance based navigation (PBN). As is known, conventional navigation is based on ground-based navigation aids;however, PBN is based on aircraft avionics and performance. In this paper, a new method called Point Merge System (PMS) considered as one of PBN procedures will be introduced. PMS has many benefits related to fuel savings and emission reductions by implementing Continuous Descent Approaches (CDAs). A new PMS standard arrival route (STAR) model will be designed in radar simulation and it will be suggested.

The purpose of this study is to report a rare condition of post-varicella disciform keratitis in a 4-year-old child. It is a prospective study of the follow-up of a 4 year-old girl who was diagnosed as post-varicella stromal disciform keratitis related to high serum antibody titers five months after the skin lesions. Rapid response to topical steroids, topical and oral antivirals have been observed in 6 weeks of treatment. There was no recurrence in the 6 months of follow-up. Total resolution of the disciform stromal keratitis in a short period of time was disclosed with an effective treatment of both topical and oral antivirals and topical steroids.

With rapidly growth in industrial sectors, in order to meet the demand, the usage of Ultra High Voltage (UHV) is needed. High voltage (HV) is between the range of 52 kV and 300 kV. In case of voltage above 800 kV, it can be defined as UHV. With the development of technologies in the world, it could be seen that Japan, Russia, Italy, Brazil, America (U.S), and Canada began to improve UHV in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition, China, a leader developing country for UHV technologies in the world, started UHV technologies in transmission, in 1980s. Nowadays, seven transmission lines are in operation in China. In this study, the concept of HV and UHV will be introduced. Especially, UHV transmission in the worldwide will be researched. Then, the historical development and current situation of UHV will be analyzed and the assessment for Turkey will be done.

The plausibility of human exposure to particulate matter(PM)has witnessed an increase within the last several *** of different sizes has been discovered in the atmosphere given the role of dust transport in weather and climate *** a regulator,the lung epithelium orchestrates the innate response to local ***,we developed a lung epithelium-ona-chip platform consisting of easily moldable polydimethylsiloxane layers along with a thin,flexible,and transparent ionic liquid-based poly(hydroxyethyl)methacrylate gel *** epithelium was formed through the culture of human lung epithelial cells(Calu-3)on this *** mechanical stress at the air–liquid interface during inhalation/exhalation was recapitulated using an Arduino-based servo motor system,which applied a uniaxial tensile strength from the two sides of the chip with 10%strain and a frequency of 0.2 ***,the administration of silica nanoparticles(PM0.5)with an average size of 463 nm to the on-chip platform under static,dynamic,and dynamic+mechanical stress(DMS)conditions demonstrated the effect of environmental pollutants on lung *** viability and release of lactate dehydrogenase were determined along with proinflammatory response through the quantification of tumor necrosis factor-α,which indicated alterations in the epithelium.

目的:研究老年性黄斑变性(AMD)等级、血清抗氧化维生素水平(维生素A、C和E)和吸烟的关系。方法:对84例患者行黄斑彩色眼底成像,根据AMD损伤率和损伤程度将其分为五组(等级I^V)。应用高效液相色谱法(HPLC)测量血清抗氧化维生素水平。根据吸烟状况分不吸烟者、已戒烟者和吸烟者三组,并统计吸烟者每年的吸烟总量。结果:对照组中,维生素A、E、C水平分别为0.874±0.326mg/L,10.739±4.874mg/L和1.737±0.447mg/L,AMD组中分别为0.880±0.305mg/L,9.487±6.060mg/L和1.870±2.191mg/L,无显著差异(P>0.05)。AMD不同等级分组间维生素A(P=0.881)和E(P=0.293)水平差异无统计学意义,维生素C水平(P=0.044)随AMD程度的加深而增加。根据吸烟状况,AMD组与对照组之间无显著差异。根据每年的吸烟总量,两组之间有显著差异(P=0.02)。AMD越严重,年吸烟总量越高(P=0.007)。结论:研究结果显示AMD与维生素A、E血清水平无关,但和维生素C的血清水平相关,并与吸烟量有关。

In this editorial,the roles of tata-box-binding protein-associated factor 15(TAF15)in oncogenesis,tumor behavior,and as a therapeutic target in cancers in the context of gastrointestinal(GI)tumors are discussed concerning the publication by Guo et ***15 is a member of the FET protein family with a comprehensive range of cellular ***,evidence has shown that TAF15 is involved in many diseases,including ***15 contributes to carcinogenesis and tumor behavior in many ***,its relationship with the mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)signaling pathway makes TAF15 a new target for ***,the fact that there is few studies investigating the expression of TAF15 constitutes a potential limitation in GI system,the association of TAF15 expression with aggressive tumor behavior and,similar to other organ tumors,the influence of TAF15 on the MAPK signaling pathway emphasize that this protein could serve as a new molecular biomarker to predict tumor behavior and target therapeutic intervention in GI *** conclusion,more studies should be performed to better understand the prognostic and therapeutic role of TAF15 in GI tumors,especially in tumors resistant to therapy.

An Unusual Paraneoplastic Syndrome of Synchronous Bladder Tumor and Prostate Cancer: Polymyositis

Introduction: Polymyositis (PM) is a type of inflammatory myopathy that is associated with a broad range of malignant disorders. An association of PM with synchronous carcinoma of the bladder and prostate is extremely rare. Case: A 65-year-old man admitted to hematology with complaints of severe progressive weakness of lower extremities, hematuria and irritative urinary symptoms lasting for a month. The hemogram and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were normal. ALT was normal but AST was 405.56 U/l. There was marked elevation of serum creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase, which were 14,065.15 U/l and 1267.50 U/l, respectively. PSA was 4.28 and DRE was positive. The abdominal ultrasound revealed a 24 × 20 mm soft tissue echogenicity lesion at the right wall and a 35 × 21 mm soft tissue echogenicity lesion at the left wall of the bladder. The rest of the abdominal viscera were normal. Computed tomography found, two 6 mm solid lesions at left anterolateral and a 18 × 12 mm solid lesion at inferoanterior bladder wall in addition to the above findings. Patient counseled to us. We resected all of the bladder masses with transurethral (TUR-BT) way and pathology revealed T2 high grade bladder tumor. Two days after TUR-BT, we performed a trans rectal ultrasonography guided prostate biopsy and pathology revealed a Gleason 3 + 4 prostate cancer. EMG showed sensorimotor polyneuropathy at the lower extremities, sustaining polymyozitis. Biopsy of the right peroneus brevis muscle showed no vasculitis with low grade neurologic changes. We offered to perform a radical cystoprostatectomy operation but the patient prefered chemotherapy. Two months after his initial presentation at the second cure of the chemotherapy all muscle weaknesses showed a dramatic regression. Conclusion: This case report indicates that both bladder carcinoma and prostate cancer should be kept in mind in elderly PM patients presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms and hematuria.
