TO THE EDITOR We read with great interest the article by XP et al. They reported the results of their experience with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and systemic chemotherapy for forty-five patients with liver metastases from breast cancer and evaluate the prognostic factors. In their study, the response and survival rates were significantly better in TACE group than in chemotherapy group. The lymph node status of the primary cancer, the clinical stage of liver metastases, the Child-Pugh grade, loss of weight were found to be significandy associated with survival in both univariate and multivariate and analyses.

Background: To evaluate local control, survival, radiation side effects and treatment outcome in locally advanced cervical cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Among 2006-2011, 178 patients with locally advanced cervical cancer were treated with chemoradiotherapy +/-?radiotherapy and high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy. Follow-up was complete for all patients. Concomitant chemotherapy was not administered in 44 patients due to renal impairments and ECOG of 2 - 3. Results: The median follow-up period was 34.5 months (range, 5 to 93) and 42 months (range, 14 to 93 months) for alive patients. Five years local-regional control, progression-free survival and overall survival rates were 87.8%, 58.9% and 67.3% in all patients, respectively. In this retrospective study young age, tumor diameter, stage, presence of residual tumor and administration of chemotherapy were effected in survival analysis. The parameters which affected the complete response of patients were defined as presence of concomitant chemotherapy and number of courses <5. Central region recurrence rate was defined higher in the group with treatment duration of 9 weeks and higher (p = 0.044). Conclusion: Primary chemoradiotherapy +/-?radiotherapy achieved a satisfactory rate of local control and survival rates with acceptable complications in locally advanced cervical cancer. Concomitant chemotherapy and treatment duration were the important prognostic factors for completed response locally advanced cervical cancers.

Background: In the diagnosis of prostatic diseases, the need for markers other than prostate specific antigen (PSA) has been increasing in recent years. So, we aimed to determine the predictive value, the neutrophil lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume before prostate biopsy in predicting the results of pathology. Transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy of the prostate was performed because of high PSA values and compared values of these parameters to predict of pathology results. Methods: 2715 patients who underwent 10 - 12 quadrant transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies between January 2008 and January 2018 have been evaluated retrospectively. Patients were divided into groups according to the biopsy pathology results by benign (group 1), atypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP) (group 2) and prostate cancer (group 3). A total of 204 patients who were benign prostate hyperplasia in 71 patients (34.8%), atypical small acinar proliferation in 80 (39.21%) and prostate adenocarcinoma (PCa) in 53 patients (25.98%) were included in the study by systematic sampling. Before the biopsy total PSA (tPSA), free PSA (fPSA), rate of percentage of free to total prostate specific antigen (f/tPSA) rate, PSA density (PSA-D), white blood cell (WBC) count, blood neutrophil count (NC), blood lymphocyte count (LC), neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet count (PLT) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were measured and compared in all groups. Differences in continuous variables were assessed using the ANOVA. Logistic regression was used to analyze the linear relationship between predictive variables and pathology results. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: NLR and PLR values were lower in group 1 than group 2 and were found statistically significant between in group 1 and group 2 (p: 0.03 and p: 0.02, respectively). ＜正＞ XLas （Extra Large Alpha S） is an alternatively spliced variant of Gas. the G protein alpha subunit that couples various extracellular stimuli to the activation of adenylyl cyclase. XLas is identical with Gas except for its long amino terminus and appears to share its functional properties such as receptor selectivity, bg binding and adenylyl cyclase activation. In this study, coupling properties of Gas and XLas to b2 adrenergic receptor （β2AR） and adenylyl cyclase are investigated in transfected HEK-293 cells. Adenylyl cyclase activity measurements show that, compared to Gas. Xlas exhibits a high basal and agonist-induced activity, both of which are enhanced by the increased expression of β2AR. Thus, spontaneous receptor activity of the β2AR seems to contribute to the basal activities of both Gas and XLas. However, while the basal activity of Gas can be inhibited by inverse agonists that suppress the spontaneous activity of the β2AR, the basal activity of XLas is insensitive to these ligands. This suggests that the conformation induced by these ligands is sensed as an inactive state by Gas but not by XLas. This study is supported partly by the research grants A. Breast cancer is a heterogeneous complex of diseases, a spectrum of many subtypes with distinct biological features that lead to differences in response patterns to various treatment modalities and clinical outcomes. Traditional classification systems regarding biological characteristics may have limitations for patient-tailored treatment strategies. Tumors with similar clinical and pathological presentations may have different behaviors. Analyses of breast cancer with new molecular techniques now hold promise for the development of more accurate tests for the prediction of recurrence. Gene signatures have been developed as predictors of response to therapy and protein gene products that have direct roles in driving the biology and clinical behavior of cancer cells are potential targets for the development of novel therapeutics. The present review summarizes current knowledge in breast cancer molecular biology, focusing on novel prognostic and predictive factors.

The field of reproductive biology has undergone significant developments in the last decade. The notion that there is a fixed reserve pool of oocytes before birth was established by Zuckerman in 1951. However, in 2004, an article published in nature challenged this central dogma of mammalian reproductive biology. Tilly's group reported the existence of ovarian germline stem cells(GSCs) in postnatal ovaries of mice and suggested that the bone marrow could be an extragonadal source of ovarian GSCs. These findings were strongly criticized; however, several independent groups have sincesuccessfully isolated and characterized ovarian GSCs in postnatal mice. The ovarian GSCs are located in the ovarian surface epithelium and express markers of undifferentiated GSCs. When transplanted into mouse ovaries, mouse ovarian GSCs could differentiate and produce embryos and offspring. Similarly, in a recent study, ovarian GSCs were found to be present in the ovaries of women of reproductive age. Conversely, there is increasing evidence that stem cells responsible for maintaining a healthy state in normal tissue may be a source of some cancers, including ovarian cancer. Cancer stem cells(CSCs) have been found in many tissues, including ovaries. Some researchers have suggested that ovarian cancer may be a result of the transformation and dysfunction of ovarian GSCs with self-renewal properties. Drug resistant and metastasisgenerating CSCs are responsible for many important problems affecting ovarian cancer patients. Therefore, the identification of CSCs will provide opportunities for the development of new therapeutic strategies for treatments for infertility and ovarian cancer. In this article, we summarize the current understanding of ovarian GSCs in adult mammals, and we also discuss whether there is a relationship between GSCs and CSCs.

优化了从橡子中提取单宁的最佳工艺参数，并考察其鞣制性能。研究了溶剂／原料比（20～100mL／g）、时间（2～10h）和混合溶剂比（甲醇一水）（0～100％）对提取率、单宁含量和单宁总量的影响。将最佳优化条件下提取出的橡杭单宁应用于皮革鞣制中，并测定鞣革的填充系数（％）和收缩温度（Ts）。优化的提取参数如下：溶剂／原料比为100mL／g，提取时间为6h，混合溶剂比为62％甲醇-38％水。采用提取出的单宁鞣后成革的填充系数为57．81％，收缩温度为75．5℃，远好于市售橡杭单宁鞣革（52．83％，73℃），凸显出优化过程的重要性。表明使用提取出的橡杭单宁作为植物鞣剂应用于皮革工业中，鞣制效果令人满意。

Multiple osteolytic lesions are usually associated with metastatic involvement of the bone. However metabolic bone diseases should also take their place in differential diagnosis. Here, we describe a primary hyperparathyroidism case with full-blown osteolytic lesions wich was diagnosed at first sight with having metastatic bone involvement. PET CT scan and laboratory results excluded a metastatic bone malignancy. Elevated serum calcium of 13.16 mg/dl, decreased serum phoshorus of 1.4 mg/dl and high intact-PTH level of 1054.7 pg/ml pointed out primary hyperparathyroidism. Sonographic examination revealed two adenomas of 2.9 × 3.3 mmand 3.3 ×2.7 mmin the left superior and right inferior parathyroid glands, respectively. Scintigraphy confirmed the presence of adenoma on the left.

＜正＞ Caveolin - rich membrane rafts, known as caveolae. can be isolated as detergent - resistant low density fractions （DRLDF） using different solubilization and frac-tionation methods. As all the detergents used for solubilization potentially change properties of the proteins, each of these methods can cause artifacts. Here, we compared the localization of. and functional coupling between. b2 - adrenoceptor （b2AR）. Gs and adenylyl cyclase in caveolinrich DRLDF of b2AR overexpress-ing HEK- 293 cells obtained by: 1) Triton X- 100 or 2) Octyl Glycoside solubilization. or 3) extensive homogenization without solubilization. followed by sucrose gradient fractionation. Both the membrane/DRLDF ratios and the functional properties of the proteins were found to vary considerably between the methods used, octyl glycoside solubilization being the superior one as the ligand binding properties of the b2AR and functional coupling between b2AR. Gs and adenylyl cyclase seemed to remain intact in the DRLDF obtained by this method. In any case, functional interactions between the proteins differed from what observed in bulk membrane.

BACKGROUND: Cancer patients frequently visit the emergency department(ED) with various symptoms of cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics and 1-year survival rate of cancer patients in the ED of a university ***: We conducted a retrospective review of 408 cancer patients who visited the ED between January 2011 and December 2011. Patient information on demographics, chief complaints, fi ndings, and survival was gathered from the hospital registry and corresponding health ***: The study included 240(58.8%) males and 168(41.2%) females with a median age of 57.9 years(range 19–87). Regarding cancer staging, 266 patients(65.3%) had metastatic disease and 142(34.7%) had local and loco-regional disease. The hospitalization rate was 59.6%. The most common symptoms were shortness of breath(23.2%), pain(17.8%), fever(14.2%), and nausea/vomiting(14.4%). The most common cancer sites were the lung(32.5%), gastrointestinal system(25.4%), and breast(9.3%). The initial evaluation determined progressive disease(42.4%), chemotherapy effects(20.7%), infections(17.2%), radiotherapy effects(4.7%), extravasation(1.8%), anemia(1.4%), and unknown(11.3%). During follow up, 191(46.8%) patients died after admission to the ED. The 1-year overall survival of all patients was 7.3 ***: Symptom management in cancer patients is a complex multifaceted concern for the emergency physician. Because of the increasing prevalence of cancer patients, emergency physicians should develop consensus algorithms in collaboration with the relevant disciplines to manage the commonly encountered problems.
