Introduction: Pericarditis is an inflammation of the pericardium with or without pericardial fluid effusion. Its prevalence is difficult to determine given the many forms that are not symptomatic. In Africa, its prevalence was 6.3% in Gabon in 2020 and 7.2% in Mali in 2022. In Europe, an Italian study estimates the incidence of acute pericarditis at 27.7 cases per 100,000 people per year. In another study conducted in Finland over a period of 9 years, the incidence of pericarditis requiring hospitalisation was 3.32 cases per 100,000 people per year. The aim of our study was to describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of pericarditis observed in the cardiology department of the regional hospital in Mali. Methodology: This was a single centre cross-sectional study from 30 January 2018 to 30 June 2020 in the cardiology department of the ségou regional hospital. All consenting patients, regardless of age or sex hospitalised in the department for pericarditis confirmed on cardiac ultrasound were included. Data were collected using an individual patient follow-up form recording sociodemographic, clinical, biological, electrocardiographic and echocardiographic data, as well as the course of the disease. Results: Out of 879 patients hospitalized, the hospital frequency was 7.28%. Females predominated, with a sex ratio of 0.42. More than half the patients were aged 45 or younger (59.4%). The mean age of patients was 41.8 ± 18.1 years. cardiovascular risk.factors were dominated by hypertension and smok.ng (46.9% and 12.5% respectively). The reasons for consultation were dyspnoea (84.3%), chest pain (54.7%), cough (71.9%) and fever (34.4%). Physical signs included muffled heart sounds (76.6%), tachycardia (70.3%), pericardial friction (17.2%) and signs of peripheral stasis in 53.1% of cases. we observed elevated c-reactive protein (cRP) in 57.8% of cases, hypercreatininaemia in 37.5% and positive HIV serology in 3.1%. Trauma is one of the most common surgical emergencies admitted in the acute care departments of hospitals in Guinea, west Africa. we carried a study to assess the epidemiological pattern and clinical care of neurotrauma in the emergency department of the k.ndia regional hospital, a rural secondary hospital catering to the needs of western Guinea and nearby districts. Data were prospectively collected from December 2019 to March 2020 after receiving the required hospital authorization and informed consent from the patients or relatives. we recorded two hundred cases of neurotraumas (64.5% of traumatic brain injury cases and 14.5% of spinal cord injury). Neurotraumas represented 17.7% of all admitted patients in the department in the study period. The mean age was 25.34 ± 16.73, and the age range 16 to 30 was the most affected. The predominance was male, with a sex ratio of 3.43. Motor Vehicle Accident was the leading cause 68.5%, and 73.2% of them involved a motorcycle. Motorcycle-to-motorcycle collision was responsible for more than a third of neurotraumas. we classified the majority of the cases as mild and low risk.neurotrauma representing 62.08%. All patients benefited from medical treatment, and 30.7% of patients received surgical treatment for associated abdominal, orthopedic, and minor procedures for scalp dilacerations. No patient was referred to a Neurosurgery department, and all living patients were discharged home during the study period with minimal disability. The mortality was 16.3%. Our results could be biased by the lack.of interhospital network.ng and the fact that severe traumatic brain-injured patient dies before seek.ng medical attention.

This paper concerns the study of the influence of the proportion of plastic from polyethylene, on the yields of gas emissions during the combustion of the mixture of “millet stalk. and polyethylene plastic bags”, in a prototype of k.ln of potters. During these investigations, we look.d at the rate of residual oxygen (O2) and emissions of carbon dioxide (cO2) and nitrogen monoxide (NO), as a function of primary air flow (Q1) and secondary airflow (Q2). The potter’s k.lns are considered those fueled by natural air flow. The primary air flows ranging from 45 to 85 Nm3?h 1 and secondary air flows from 20 to 60 Nm3?h 1. To conduct this numerical study, the model used is “reactor” based on the code cHEMk.N II. The modeled area is composed into a multitude of perfectly stirred reactors (PsR) and the k.netic model has 893 species and 113 reversible chemical reactions. The results show that in our test conditions, the increasing of the rate of plastic in the mixture produces a decrease of the residual oxygen content, due to higher oxygen consumption regardless of the airflow. The cO2 emissions are an increasing function of the rate of plastic (polyethylene) in the fuel mixture. Finally, NO emissions are increasing functions of the mass of plastic for a proportions less than or equal to 20%, and are essentially controlled by the temperature of the reactional medium.

Rice improvement for disease resistance has scarcely involved farmers’ k.owledge in sub-saharan Africa. A participatory rural appraisal was conducted in two main rice cultivation areas in Burk.na Faso to assess farmers’ awareness of rice production constraints with emphasis on rice yellow mottle disease (RYMD) and its management. Farmers’ preference for rice varieties to be used in the breeding program was also assessed. Major concerns for rice cultivation as perceived by farmers were water shortage and RYMD. However, relative importance of each constraint depended on the survey areas, RYMD being prominent at Banzon while water shortage predominated at Mogtedo. Mogtedo farmers preferred rice variety Fk.19 because of its tolerance to drought. At Banzon, farmers’ first criterion was taste which was reflected in the choice of variety Fk.18. Yield was also a major criterion in both areas, positioning NERIcA varieties Fk.56N, Fk.62N, and Fk.60N among the top preferred varieties. Farmers mentioned RYMD as the most important rice disease. Most farmers used varietal shifts or pesticide treatments for RYMD management. RYMD incidence reached 28% in average at Banzon over the 2012-2013 main growing seasons. In rice varieties Fk.56N, Fk.62N and Ts2, diseased plants yielded 79.3% less than the healthy ones. Accordingly, based on disease incidence, overall yield loss in the study area was estimated at 22.3%. Altogether, rice production can be significantly increased by tak.ng RYMD into account in a participatory rice breeding strategy.

In low-income countries, endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) with or without choroid plexus coagulation (CPC) is an increasingly accepted alternative to shunt therapy in adult and pediatric hydrocephalus. The authors report the result of this treatment in Conakry in a mixed population of adult and pediatric patients regardless of the etiology of the hydrocephalus. A retrospective study was conducted on 76 patients undergoing 89 ETV from January 2013 to September 2020. The predominant group of patients was infants less than one year with a mean age of 4.3 months and extremes of 1 - 8 months. The H/F sex ratio was 1.7/1. All patients presented acutely with signs of high intracranial pressure. Post-infectious causes and malformations and tumors were the main etiologies, respectively 21%, 47.3%, and 15.7%. The mean duration of the endoscopic procedures was 49.93 ± 10.9 mm, associated with a choroid plexus coagulation in 42% of cases. The complication rate in the first month was 22%, with CSF leak (5%) and death (11%) accounting for the majority. At three months, the complications rates were 45%, with 14.4% closed stroma, 6% epilepsy, and 24% mortality. The mean follow-up was 28 months (range 2 - span style="font-family:Verdana;">53), and the global success rate of 61%. Our study, with its limitations, shows that ETV with cPc is a safe primary approach for the treatment of hydrocephalus in low-income countries regardless of the etiology and the age of the patients.

The Jarque-Bera’s fitting test for normality is a celebrated and powerful one. In this paper, we consider general Jarque-Bera tests for any distribution function (df) having at least 4k.finite moments for k.≥ 2. The tests use as many moments as possible whereas the JB classical test is supposed to test only sk.wness and k.rtosis for normal variates. But our results unveil the relations between the coeffients in the JB classical test and the moments, showing that it really depends on the first eight moments. This is a new explanation for the powerfulness of such tests. General chi-square tests for an arbitrary model, not only normal, are also derived. we mak. use of the modern functional empirical processes approach that mak.s it easier to handle statistics based on the high moments and allows the generalization of the JB test both in the number of involved moments and in the underlying distribution. simulation studies are provided and comparison cases with the k.lmogorov-smirnov’s tests and the classical JB test are given.

In this work. we use the finiteness of the Mordell-weil group and the Riemann Roch spaces to give a geometric parametrization of the set of algebraic points of any given degree over the field of rational numbers Q on curve csub>3 sub>(11): ysup>11sup> = xsup>3sup> (x-1)sup>3sup>. This result is a special case of quotients of Fermat curves csub>r,s sub>(p) : ysup>psup> = xsup>rsup>(x-1)sup>ssup>, 1 ≤ r, s, r + s ≤ p-1 for p = 11 and r = s = 3. The results obtained extend the work.of Gross and Rohrlich who determined the set of algebraic points on csub>1sub>(11)(k. of degree at most 2 on Q.

strong>Introduction:strong> Appendicular peritonitis is a complication of acute appendicitis characterized by the spread of the infectious process in the peritoneal cavity thus achieving wide spread or localized purulent peritonitis;it’s a medico-surgical emergency. Our objectives are to determine the frequency, describe the clinical, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of peritonitis by appendicular perforations. strong>Patients-Method:strong> This was a 24-month retro, prospective, descriptive study from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019;conducted in the Bougouni Reference Health center surgery Unit. All patients of appendicular peritonitis at the Bougouni Reference Health centre were included. strong>Results:strong> During the study period, 68 cases of generalized acute peritonitis including 30 appendicular peritonitis cases were collected. Appendicular peritonitis accounted for 44.1% of surgical procedures. Males accounted for 71.0% with a sex ratio of 1.2 at risk.of men, the average age was 26.07 years. Abdominal pain and vomiting were the reasons for consultation in 86.7% and 76.7% of cases. Physical examination was used in most cases to mak. the diagnosis. X-ray of the abdomen without preparation, and abdominal ultrasound were performed systematically. surgical treatment consisted of an appendectomy with peritoneal toilet followed by drainage. The average length of hospitalization was 8.8 days with extremes of 1 - 44 days. Hospital mortality was 3.3%;morbidity and high mortality were related to delayed consultation. strong>conclusion:strong> Appendicular generalized acute peritonitis is a medical-surgical emergency with a high mortality rate associated with delayed management.

The objective of this study was to develop allometric models for estimating the biomass of sclerocarya birrea (***) Hoscht and Boscia senegalensis (Pers.) lam. ex Poir. The inventory of these ligneous was carried out at widou Thiengoly (North of senegal). The sample consists of 43 individuals of Boscia senegalensis and 15 individuals of sclerocarya birrea. The selected individuals were dendrometrically characterized before being cut, compartmentalized (trunk. branches, and twigs) and weighed entirely. simple regression tests were performed to examine the most explanatory dendrometric parameter (x) for biomass (y) according to two types of models: the linear model (y = ax + b) and the polynomial model of degrees 2 (y = axsup>2sup> + bx + c). The criteria for selection and validity of the models are based firstly on the tests of normality, nullity, heterogeneity and autocorrelation of the residues. The results showed that the most explanatory dendrometric parameter of the biomass was the crown surface for Boscia senegalensis and the 1.30 m diameter for sclerocarya birrea of all the tests performed, the second-order Polynomial model is the best predictor of above ground biomass for these two species. Thus, the allometric models established to predict the biomass of these two species are: y = 0.0023xsup>2sup> + 0.4851x - 0.0519 for Boscia senegalensis and y = 0.35xsup>2sup> + 10.35x - 12.90 for s. birrea;with very significant correlation coefficients (Rsup>2sup>) of 0.85 and 0.94 respectively. These results can be used for a sequestered carbon assessment study and will play a role in monitoring the carbon mark.t in Africa.
