In vitro cholinesterase inhibitory and antioxidant effect of selected coniferous tree species

Objective:To explore cholinesterase inhibitory and antioxidant effect of six coniferous trees(Abies bornmulleriana,Picea pungens,Juniperus communis,Cedrus libani,Taxus baccata,and Cupressus sempervirens ***).Methods:Acetone(Ace),ethyl acetate(EtOAc),and ethanol(EtOH)extracts prepared from the needles and shoots of the six coniferous trees were screened for their acetylcholinesterase(AChE)and butyrylcholinesterasc(BChE)inhibitory activity at 100μg/*** activity of the extracts was tested using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylendiamine(DMPD)radical scavenging,nietal-chelation capacity,ferric-(FRAP)and phosphomolibdenum-reducing antioxidant power(PRAP)*** of the assays were performed in ELISA microplate *** phenol and flavonoid amounts in the extracts were determined ***:Among thirty-six extracts in total,the shoot-Ace extract of Cupressus sempervirens *** exerted the highest inhibition against AChE[(54.84±2.51)%],while the needle-Ace extract of Cedrus libani was the most effective in inhibiting BChE[(67.54±0.30)%].The highest DPPH radical scavenging effect,FRAP and PRAP was observed in the shoot-Ace and EtOAc extracts from Taxus *** all the extracts showed a variable degree of scavenging effect against DPMD *** shoot-EtOAc extract of Cedrus libani had the highest metalchelation capacity[(58.04±0.70)%].The shoot extracts of Taxus baccata were determined to have the richest total phenol content,which may contribute to its marked antioxidant ***:The conifer species screened in this study may contain cholinesterase-inhibiting and antioxidant properties,which might be useful against Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND We planned this study considering that complications of deep neck infections can be seriously life *** To raise awareness that introthoracic complications and necrotizing fasciitis are causes of serious mortality and *** This study was carried out with the participation of 188 patients who were treated at Mersin University Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at January 1,*** the patient files were retrospectively examined,16 of 188 patients(8.5%)were included in the study because they were observed to have necrotizing fasciitis and/or intrathoracic *** There were a total of 16 patients in this study,9 males(56.25%)and 7 females(43.75%).All patients were adults(>18 years)and the mean age was 50.37 years±15.37 *** patients had a mean age of 40.42 years±13.38 years,whereas for male patients was 58.11 years±12.44 *** Patients with necrotizing fasciitis and/or intrathoracic complications require more complicated and serious surgeries,intensive care unit monitoring,and mechanical ventilator *** rates of morbidity and mortality should be expected in Bal KK et *** neck infections mortal complications WJCC https://*** 6384 October 26,2024 Volume 12 Issue 30 these patients who are hospitalized for longer periods of time.

An Improved Security Scheme for IEC 61850MMS Messages in Intelligent Substation Communication Networks

Advanced connectivity in substations brings along cybersecurity considerations. Especially, the use of standardized data objects and message structures stipulated by IEC 61850 makes them much more vulnerable to unauthorized access and manipulation. In order to tackle these vulnerabilities, different methods are investigated by researchers all over the world. An important aspect of such efforts is the real-time performance consideration since power systems are bound by the rules of physics and all control/communication tasks need to be completed in a certain time frame. Security schemes for substation communication have been proposed in the recent literature. However, they must be improved to ensure a full security solution. Recently published IEC 62351 standard aims to fill this gap. Node authentication is vital for substation communication networks based on IEC 61850 to mitigate a variety of attacks such as man-in-the-middle(MITM) attack. This short communication presents a node authentication mechanism based on transport layer security(TLS) with certificates to address this knowledge gap. It also investigates the real-time performance by implementing the proposed scheme with Python.

Fruit Yield and Quality, and Irrigation Water Use Efficiency of Summer Squash Drip-Irrigated with Different Irrigation Quantities in a Semi-Arid Agricultural Area

Fruit yield, yield components, fruit mineral content, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity and irrigation water use efifciency （IWUE） of summer squash responses to different irrigation quantities were evaluated with a ifeld study. Irrigations were done when the total evaporated water from a Class A pan was about 30 mm. Different irrigation quantities were adjusted using three different plant-pan coefifcients （Kcp, 100% （Kcp1）, 85% （Kcp2） and 70% （Kcp3））. Results indicated that lower irrigation quantities provided statistically lower yield and yield components. The highest seasonal fruit yield （80.0 t ha-1） was determined in the Kcp1 treatment, which applied the highest volume of irrigation water （452.9 mm）. The highest early fruit yield, average fruit weight and fruit diameter, length and number per plant were also determined in the Kcp1 treatment, with values of 7.25 t ha-1, 264.1 g, 5.49 cm, 19.95 cm and 10.92, respectively. Although the IWUE value was the highest in the Kcp1 treatment （176.6 kg ha-1 mm-1）, it was statistically similar to the value for Kcp3 treatment （157.1 kg ha-1 mm-1）. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of fruits was higher in the Kcp1 （44.27 μg gallic acid equivalents （GAE） mg-1 fresh sample） and in the Kcp2 （84.75%） treatments, respectively. Major （Na, N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S） and trace （Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn and B） mineral contents of squash fruits were the highest in the Kcp2 treatment, with the exception of P, Ca and Cu. Mineral contents and total phenolic content were signiifcantly affected by irrigation quantities, but antioxidant activity was not affected. It can be concluded that the Kcp1 treatment was the most suitable for achieving higher yield and IWUE. However, the Kcp2 treatment will be the most suitable due to the high fruit quality and relatively high yield in water shortage conditions.

Determining Crop and Pan Coefficients for Cauliflower and Red Cabbage Crops Under Cool Season Semiarid Climatic Conditions

The aim of this study was to estimate the evapotranspiration of cauliflower and red cabbage crops grown under cool season semiarid climatic conditions from Class A pan evaporation. Actual evapotranspiration （ETc） of cauliflower and red cabbage crops was calculated according to the water balance approach. Reference evapotranspiration （ETo） was calculated with FAO Penman-Monteith equation. Pan evaporation （Epan） was measured by using Class A pan. Seasonal ETc was determined as 475 mm for cauliflower and 556 nun for red cabbage. Seasonal pan coefficient （kp=ETo/Epan） was determined as 0.82, and the seasonal crop coefficient （kc=ETc/ETo） was determined as 0.84 for cauliflower and 0.83 for red cabbage. So the evapotranspiration of cauliflower and red cabbage crops was estimated as 70% Class A pan evaporation.

Topiramate as a neuroprotective agent in a rat model of spinal cord injury

Topiramate（TPM） is a widely used antiepileptic and antimigraine agent which has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects in various experimental traumatic brain injury and stroke models. However, its utility in spinal cord injury has not been studied extensively. Thus, we evaluated effects of TPM on secondary cellular injury mechanisms in an experimental rat model of traumatic spinal cord injury（SCI）. After rat models of thoracic contusive SCI were established by free weight-drop method, TPM（40 mg/kg） was given at 12-hour intervals for four times orally. Post TPM treatment, malondialdehyde and protein carbonyl levels were significantly reduced and reduced glutathione levels were increased, while immunoreactivity for endothelial nitric oxide synthase, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and apoptotic peptidase activating factor 1 was diminished in SCI rats. In addition, TPM treatment improved the functional recovery of SCI rats. This study suggests that administration of TPM exerts neuroprotective effects on SCI.

Applying machine learning techniques to predict laminar burning velocity for ammonia/hydrogen/air mixtures

Ammonia utilisation in internal combustion engines has attracted wide interest due to the current trend toward decarbonisation,as ammonia is a zero-carbon fuel with different combustion properties to *** laminar burning velocity(LBV)is a fundamental property of fuels with a significant effect on the combustion processes and accurate calculations and measurements of the LBV over a wide range of fuel blends,pressures and flow conditions is a time-consuming,complicated *** main goal of the current study is to predict the LBV of NH_(3)/H_(2)/air mixtures using a hybrid machine learning(ML)approach based on a training dataset consisting of both the experimental LBV values and additional data obtained from numerical simulations with a detailed kinetic *** ML model training data is collected from existing experimental LBV in the literature for NH_(3)/H_(2)/air ***,synthetic data is generated using one-dimensional(1D)simulations to reduce data inhomogeneity and increase accuracy of the ML *** total,24 different ML algorithms are tested to find the best model both for the experimental and the hybrid *** results suggest that both Gaussian Process Regression(GPR)and Neural Networks(NNs)can be utilised to predict LBV of NH_(3)/H_(2)/air mixtures with reasonable *** hybrid ML model achieved a coefficient of determination of R^(2)=***,hybrid ML model hyperparameters are optimised to achieve a coefficient of determination of R^(2)=*** was also found that ML can speed up LBV computation from 9500 to 27000 times compared to 1D simulations with a reduced mechanism.

Incidence of toxoplasmosis in patients with cirrhosis

AIM:It is known that toxoplasmosis rarely leads to various liver pathologies,most common of which is granulomatose hepatitis in patients having normal immune *** who have cirrhosis of the liver are subject to a variety of cellular as well as humoral immunity ***,it may be considered that toxoplasmosis can cause more frequent and more severe diseases in patients with cirrhosis and is capable of changing the course of the *** aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of toxoplasmosis in patients with cirrhosis. METHODS:Serum samples were taken from 108 patients with cirrhosis under observation in the Hepatology Polyclinic of the Gastroenterology Clinic,and a control group made up of 50 healthy blood *** and ELISA methods were used to investigate the IgG and IgM antibodies,which had developed from these sera. RESULTS:Toxoplasma IgG and IgN antibody positivity was found in 74 (68.5%) of the 108 cirrhotic patients and 24 (48%) of the 50 people in the control *** difference between them was significant (P<0.05). CONCLUSION:In conclusion,it was found that the toxopiasma sero-prevalence in the cirrhotic patients in this study was *** patients are likely to form a toxoplasma risk *** detailed studies are needed on this subject.

Interleukin (IL) 5 levels and eosinophilia in patients with intestinal parasitic diseases

AIM:Intestinal parasitic diseases are commonly accompanied with diarrhoeal symptoms and allergic *** occurs as a result of IL-5 synthesized from Th2 cells during allergic ***-5 acts as a factor activating eosinophils. The aim of this study was to compare the IL-5 cytokine measurements in serum samples and cell *** also to compare eosinophilia observed in helminth infections and protozoon infections accompanied with allergy. METHODS:Twenty-three patients who presented with diarrhoeal symptoms and allergic complaints were tested positive for intestinal parasites,as well as 21 controls with allergic complaints who did not have any intestinal parasites were included in this ***-5 production in in vitro cell cultures prepared by using phytohemaglutinin (PHA) to stimulate peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) obtained from the blood samples taken from these patients were compared with the IL-5 level in ***, the IL-5 production in protozoon and helminth infections was also *** eosinophil values in 1 mm^3 of blood were calculated by means of peripheral smear in both groups within the scope of the study.
