Visual Outcomes and Risk of Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Following Posterior Capsule Rupture during Cataract Surgery: With vs without Dropped Nuclear Lens Fragments

Electrochemical water splitting needs catalysts made from earth-abundant elements to effectively drive the hydrogen evolution reaction（HER） and oxygen evolution reaction（OER） [1]. more recently, we have put great efforts to make non-noble metal HER and OER catalalysts [2-8]. To sustain overall water splitting, both HER and OER must be operated in the same electrolyte to minimize the overpotentials, and using a bifunctional catalyst for simultaneous generation of H2 and O2 can simplify the system and lower the cost. It is thus attractive but still remains a big challenge to develop noble-metal-free bifunctional catalysts efficient for both reactions [9,10]. Herein, we report our recent finding that Zn0.76Co0.24S/Co S2 nanowires array on Ti mesh（Zn-Co-S/Tm）, topotactically derived from Zn Co2O4 nanowires array precursor, behaves as a durable bifunctional HER and OER catalyst in strongly alkaline electrolytes with superior activity. This Zn-Co-S/Tm electrode affords 20 m A cm-2 at 238 m V HER overpotential and 20 m A cm-2 at 330 m V OER overpotential. The two-electrode alkaline water-splitting system based on Zn-Co-S/Tm achieves 10 m A cm-2 at a cell voltage of 1.66 V. This research points out the direction of developing transition metal sulfides nanostructures as full water-splitting catalytic materials toward large-scale production of hydrogen fuels for applications.

Background: Cataract surgery is the most frequently performed surgery worldwide. Posterior capsule rupture (PCR) remains one of the most common complications of cataract surgery and a major risk factor for poor visual outcomes. Cataract surgeries complicated by PCR and vitreous loss are managed with anterior vitrectomy at the time of surgery. However, the situation can be further complicated by dropping lens particles into the vitreous cavity necessitating a secondary pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). Purpose: To compare the visual outcomes and risk of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) between eyes that required anterior vitrectomy (AV) alone for the management of vitreous loss and eyes that required AV and subsequent PPV for the management of dropped nuclear lens fragments (DNLF) following cataract surgery complicated by PCR in a tertiary care teaching hospital in Saudi Arabia. methods: medical records of patients in whom PCR occurred during phacoemulsification cataract surgery requiring AV or subsequent PPV for DNLF were retrospectively reviewed over a 6-year period from January 2016 to December 2021. Results: PCR occurred in 183 (2.3%) of 7757 consecutive eyes that underwent phacoemulsification cataract surgery during the study period. Seven eyes were excluded from analysis for missing data or short follow-up. Of the 176 eyes, 147 eyes (83.5%) were managed with AV alone, and the remaining 29 eyes (16.5%) underwent a secondary PPV for DNLF. After excluding eyes with pre-existing ocular pathology, final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was similar in both groups with a mean of 0.32 logmAR (P = 0.99). Two of 147 eyes (1.4%) in the AV group developed RRD with poor final BCVA whereas none of the eyes in DNLF group developed RRD. Conclusion: The risk of RRD is lower in eyes that required PPV for DNLF than in eyes that were managed with AV alone following PCR during cataract surgery. 123I is the most widely used cyclotron-produced radio-halogen in medical research. In this paper, excitation function formulae for the nuclear reactions of 123I production are introduced. 124Te (p, 2n)123I and 127I (p, 5n)123Xe → 123I nuclear reactions have been studied as a function of the energy of the neutrons. Both two formulae were created using the least squares regression of the experimental cross sections data, which were obtained from the Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data EXFOR Database version of 2023. The proposed formulae were evaluated using two statistical indicators for goodness-of-fit. High agreement was observed between the empirical and experimental results for both nuclear processes.

fmRI （Functional magnetic Resonance Imaging） is a relatively new technique that uses mRI （magnetic Resonance Imaging） to measure the hemodynamic response （change in blood flow） related to neural activity in the brain. This paper aims to explore and identify the obstacles facing the implementation and applications of ImRI in radiology departments within Jeddah city by analyzing related data received by direct questionnaires and interviews with all the people working in mRI units in Jeddah city and finds that the major obstacle is lacking of awareness of fmRI among medical professionals and their training.

Background: Obstetric sonography is one of the prenatal tests offered to most pregnant women and an essential tool that helps health care providers to establish fetal condition and growth. The Objective: to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practice about obstetric sonography among women at KAUH in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted during 2018-2019 among 367 women. It included all women that attend the OB/GYN outpatient clinic at KAUH in Jeddah. The data was collected through interviewing questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 5 items to assess their knowledge, attitude, practice, and sociodemographic characteristics. Data were entered into a Microsoft Excel 2014 sheet, and statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics. Result: The mean knowledge score about obstetric sonography was 13.9 ± 1.7, where 343 (93.0%) had good knowledge, and only 26 (7.0%) had poor knowledge.
