Association of type 2 diabetes mellitus with the reduction of mandibular residual ridge among edentulous patients using panoramic radiographs

Objective: To evaluate the association between type 2 diabetes mellitus and the reduction of mandibular residual ridge in completely edentulous patients wearing complete dentures and to investigate the ef-fect of gender, age and years of edentulousness / den-ture wearing on ridge resorption on both groups. Methods: Seventy-two (36 men and 36 women) with a mean age 63.5 years (range of 52 to 73 years) com-pletely edentulous denture-wearing patients were included in this study. Of these, there were 40 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 32 control subjects participated in the study. Resorption in the mandibular residual ridges was assessed by using the mental foramen and the inferior border of the mandible, as they appear in panoramic radiographs, as reference points using Wical and Swoope Analysis method. Measurements were performed using “Dijite” Digital Caliper. The amount of mandibular ridge resorption was calculated and correlated with type 2 diabetes mellitus and the results were compared with control group. Differences in gender, age and years of edentulousness were investigated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (V11.0). A 2-sample t-test was used to evaluate the differences in mean values of mandibular ridge resorption between diabetics and controls. Level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: The mean mandibular residual ridge resorption of all participants is 8.0 mm (26.9%), diabetic group significantly (P ales recorded greater amount of resorption in diabetics 49.7% versus 21.8% (P ales, respectively. There were no differences in both groups regarding the age of subjects and the length of time they have been edentulous and years of denture wearing. Genomic instability and mutations caused by increases in oxidative stress during pregnancy can damage the fetoplacental unit and can upshot preterm *** damage to DNA may possibly be involved in etiology of preterm birth(PTB)which can be repaired by DNA repair *** the present study,we assessed the association of base excision repair gene family by analyzing the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms and genes expression in 8-oxoguanine glycosylase-1(OGG1)and apurinic-apyrimidinic endonuclease 1(APE1)genes with risk of preterm birth in Saudi *** analyzed genotypes of four single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(rs1052133,rs293795,rs2072668 and rs2075747)in OGG1 gene and three SNPs(rs1130409,rs3136814,and rs3136817)in APE1 gene using TaqMan Genotyping assay kits in 50 pairs of preterm cases and individually matched ***,gene expression level was explored by RT-PCR in 10 pairs of preterm placental tissues and individually matched normal placental *** OGG1 SNP,rs1052133(OR=0.497;c2=1.11;p=0.292)and rs2072668(OR=0.408;c2=1.90;p=0.167)and one APE1 SNP rs3136817(OR=0.458;c2=0.40;p=0.527)showed nonsignificant protective effect against PTB *** expression of both genes under study was found lower in the PTB *** and allele frequencies of both gene SNPs did not show any association with the risk of preterm delivery in Saudi women(P˃0.05).However,synthesis and release of OGG1 and APE1 proteins decreased in preterm placental tissues compared to term delivery reflects the probability of being one of the mechanisms leading to preterm birth.

This research investigates the reliability of two measures intended to reduce moose-vehicle collisions(MVCs):continuous lighting and clearing/grubbing of roadway *** analyses and a combined regression analysis were conducted to measure the effects of several combinations of variables on MVC rates,including clearing and grubbing,continuous lighting,clearing without grubbing,moose population,precipitation,snowfall,and maximum snow *** corridor improvement projects were analyzed based on the variables *** previous studies,it has been hypothesized that MVC rates are influenced by environmental conditions such as snowfall and *** alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities(DOT&PF)has performed many studies on MVCs along several *** corridors showed a significant drop in the number of MVCs after the installation of continuous *** results show there is a consistent drop in MVCs after clearing and grubbing,with the exception of one *** combined clearing/grubbing and continuous lighting projects also resulted in a consistent drop in *** projects with clearing and grubbing as a component had varying trends in MVCs,which may indicate that DOT&PF Maintenance and Operations performed clearing of re-vegetated areas,or that older growth is less of an attractant for moose.

Floc meal as potential substitute for soybean meal in tilapia diets under biofloc system conditions

This study was conducted to evaluate the ef fect of replacing soybean meal(SBM) by low protein ?oc meal(LPFM; 24% CP) in tilapia diets on growth performance, feed utilization and ?sh chemical composition. Three isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets were formulated; control diet(C; without LPFM),FM 25(25% of SBM protein was substituted by LPFM) and FM 50(50% of SBM protein was substituted by LPFM). Nine 55 l circular plastic tanks were stocked by 12 ?sh to form three experimental *** dif ferences in tilapia performance were observed between the control and the FM 25 diet. Chemical composition of ?sh did not dif fer signi?cantly among treatments except for protein and selenium contents where the highest values were recorded in the control treatment. The highest mineral content was recorded in ?oc collected from the control tanks, while calcium content showed its highest value in ?oc collected from FM 50 e ? uent. These data indicate that replacing soybean meal with LPFM up to 25%, had no negative ef fect on growth performance and potentially may improve the system sustainability. Meanwhile, the adverse ef fect of more inclusion of LPFM in tilapia diet may be attributed to the higher content of ash. In other word,minerals seem to cause more energy utilization in ?sh fed ?oc meal since it is needed to maintain osmotic homeostasis.

There has been an increasing number of reported cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in previously healthy children since first reported on March 31,*** clinical syndrome is identified by jaundice and markedly elevated liver enzymes with increased aspartate transaminase and/or alanine aminotransa-minase(greater than 500 IU/L).We conducted an inclusive literature review with respect to acute hepatitis outbreaks in children using the search terms acute hepatitis,outbreak,children,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and *** to the cumulative data presented in four main studies,the median age is 4 years,with a male predominance(1.3:1).Jaundice was the most common clinical manifestation(69%),followed by vomiting(63%),anorexia(52.9%),diarrhea(47.2%),abdominal pain(39%),pyrexia(33.3%),pale stool(30%),and dark urine(30%).Coryza and lethargy were reported in 16.6%,while pruritus was reported in 2%of *** liver failure was observed in 25%of *** exact mechanism of this acute hepatitis outbreak is still not entirely *** and SARS-CoV-2 were detected in a significant number of *** with adenovirus and SARS-CoV-2 could be a possible underlying ***,other possible infections and mechanisms must be considered in the pathogenesis of this *** hepatitis of unknown origin in children has been a serious problem since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic but has not yet been sufficiently *** questions remain regarding the underlying mechanisms leading to acute liver failure in children,and it is likely that extensive future research is needed.
