Training of health personnel to improve knowledge and skills in taking Pap: Effect of an educational intervention to prevent cervical cancer

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention to improve knowledge and skills in taking Pap smear conducted by health staff implementing the program on Early Detection of Cervical Cancer. Methods: A quasiexperimental, longitudinal and prospective study, held from October 25 2010 to April 11, 2011 at a hospital in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. To select groups applied a non-probabilistic convenience sampling that was composed of 28 people, 15 for the study group and 13 to the control group. The study group received training that was divided into three phases in which assessed the knowledge and skills taking the smear, the control group received conventional training offered by your workplace. Papanicolaou quality was measured before and after the intervention. The reference used international classification system Bethesda 2001. For data analysis we used the Student t test. Results: The study group increased knowledge (t = 8.768, p = 0.000) in the management of official standards, in the anatomy of the lower female genital tract and in the form of testing. Technical skills (t = 8.639, p = 0.000) also increased in the study group after the intervention. The control group showed no significant changes. The quality report of the samples in the study group increased from 60% to 86.7% and in the control group decreased from 92.3% to 84.6%. Conclusions: The training is effective in improving the knowledge and skills in taking Pap. Health staff who received the training improved their performance and showed more interest in providing high quality service to women.

Affinity-Based Network Interfaces for Efficient Communication on Multicore Architectures

Improving the network interface performance is needed by the demand of applications with high communication requirements （for example, some multimedia, real-time, and high-performance computing applications）, and the availability of network links providing multiple gigabits per second bandwidths that could require many processor cycles for communication tasks. Multicore architectures, the current trend in the microprocessor development to cope with the difficulties to further increase clock frequencies and microarchitecture efficiencies, provide new opportunities to exploit the parallelism available in the nodes for designing efficient communication architectures. Nevertheless, although present OS network stacks include multiple threads that make it possible to execute network tasks concurrently in the kernel, the implementations of packet-based or connection-based parallelism are not trivial as they have to take into account issues related with the cost of synchronization in the access to shared resources and the efficient use of caches. Therefore, a common trend in many recent researches on this topic is to assign network interrupts and the corresponding protocol and network application processing to the same core, as with this affinity scheduling it would be possible to reduce the contention for shared resources and the cache misses. In this paper we propose and analyze several configurations to distribute the network interface among the different cores available in the server. These alternatives have been devised according to the affinity of the corresponding communication tasks with the location （proximity to the memories where the different data structures are stored） and characteristics of the processing core. As this approach uses several cores to accelerate the communication path of a given connection, it can be seen as complementary to those that consider several cores to simultaneously process packets belonging to either the same or different connections.

Microbes that are beneficial to plants are used to enhance the crop growth,yield and are alternatives to chemical *** and Bacillus are the predominant plant growth-promoting fungi and *** objective of this study was select,characterize,and evaluate isolates of Trichoderma *** Bacillus *** from the northern region of Sinaloa,Mexico,and assess their effect on growth promotion in maize(Zea mays L.).In greenhouse conditions,four Trichoderma isolates and twenty Bacillus isolates,as well as two controls,were tested in a completely randomized design with three *** selected the two best strains of Trichoderma and Bacillus:TB=Trichoderma asperellum,TF=Trichoderma virens,B14=Bacillus cereus sensu lato and B17=Bacillus cereus,which were evaluated in the field in a completely randomized blocks in factorial arrangement design with three replicates applying different rates of nitrogen fertilizer(0,150 kg N/ha,and 300 kg N/ha).Treatments 5(B17=***)and 11(TF=***)both fertilized with 150 kg N/ha showed similar yields and they did not reveal significant differences from the treatments fertilized with 300 kg N/*** indicated that treatment 5(B17=*** with 150 kg N/ha)and treatment 11(TF=*** with 150 kg N/ha)were efficient as growth promoters,by not showing significant differences in root volume and dry weight of *** results indicated a reduction of 50% in the rate of nitrogen to fertilizer required for maize(Zea mays L.)*** microorganisms Trichoderma and Bacillus could be an alternative to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in maize.

Extraction and Characterization of Oil from <i>Moringa oleifera</i>Using Supercritical CO<sub>2</sub>and Traditional Solvents

The present work presents a first characterization of the oil from the Moringa (Moringa oleifera) kernel as a potential candidate for biodiesel production. Moringa is an indigenous tree in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, where there is a nascent biodiesel industry. Several extraction methods are compared in terms of the extraction yields, including solvent extraction (n-hexane and ethanol), and supercritical extraction (Sc-CO2). The results are also compared against previ- ously reported data. For supercritical extraction pressures of 200 to 400 bar and temperatures of 40℃ and 60℃ were tested. Gas Chromatography analysis reveals that the main fatty acids in Moringa oil are oleic acid (69%), palmitic acid (10%), and stearic acid (8%).

Elderly individuals, especially those with pre-existing conditions like type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), have a high risk for developing severe cases of COVID-19. The aim of this work was to characterize the alterations of blood immune cells (BIC) in patients with symptomatic COVID-19 and confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, ≥60 years and who needed hospitalization in the Centro de Salud Hospital of Tucuman, Argentina, during the second peak of the pandemic in Argentina. Ten patients were enrolled from December 2020 to May 2021. Blood samples were taken at the time of admission (day 0) and five days after (day 5) for routine laboratory tests and the characterization of BIC by flow cytometry. Most of the patients were men (70%) aged between 60 and 78 years. The 70% of patients had T2DM while 50% had arterial hypertension. At day 0, all the patients had increased neutrophils and inflammatory markers (C reactive protein and D-dimers) and reduced numbers of lymphocytes, HLA-DRhi monocytes, CD16+CD56+ NK cells, CD3+HLA−DR+CD25+ cells, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in blood. Patients received a standard treatment for COVID-19 care (O2, corticosteroids and antibiotics). The hospital treatment normalized the levels of BIC (day 5) in 30% of patients who were those with no comorbidities. In patients with T2DM, BIC recovery was variable. In T2DM patients who required administration of plasma (30%), prolonged O2 therapy (40%) or referral to the intensive care unit (10%) significant reductions of CD16+CD56+, CD3+HLA−DR+CD25+, CD4+ and CD8+ cells were observed between days 0 and 5. In line with previous studies, our results show that absolute counts of major lymphocyte subsets in blood are significantly and substantially decreased during the course of severe COVID-19 disease

Markers for Rapid Evaluation of Virus Resistance for TYLCV in Tomato, ZYMV and PRSV-W in Zucchini and LMV in Lettuce and Hybrid Seeds in Pumpkin

Screening for the source of virus resistance in horticultural plants or specific characterization as hybridization, through symptoms, requires time and depends on the weather and knowledge of plant characteristics. So, it is important to develop specific gene markers to allow rapid diagnosis by PCR. Markers were developed based on sequences homology comparison of susceptible and resistant plants provided by HORTEC SEEDS in tomato for Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) by the resistance gene Ty-1, in zucchini for Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) and Papaya ringspot virus estirpe watermelon (PRSV-W), and in lettuce for Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV). Fragments of 249 bp were amplified only by resistant plants to TYLCV as the hybrids 2648 and Aguamiel, and not for varieties as Santa Cruz or Carina. It were observed for ZYMV the amplification of 791 bp by the resistant hybrid Px7051 and not for the susceptible cultivar La Belle;for PRSV-W using the same zucchini plants the amplification of 650 bp for susceptible and 750 bp for resistant;for LMV the 421 bp amplification only for the resistant cultivar Brasil 303 and not for susceptible Babá de Verão. Finally, it was observed that primers PK47F/R were able to check the Cabotiá seed hybrids of pumpkin Jabras.

African dust storm events (ADE) travel across theAtlantic Ocean(ADEAO) and reach the Puerto Rican coast (ADEPRC), potentially impacting air quality and human health. To what extent seasonal variations in atmospheric particulate matter (PM) size fractions, composition and sources trigger respiratory-adverse effects to Puerto Ricans is still unclear. In the present study, we investigated the pro-inflammatory and cytotoxic effects of PM samples harvested during ADEAO (PM10), ADEPRC (PM2.5 and PM10) and Non-ADE (Pre-and Post-ADEAO and Non-ADEPRC), using BEAS-2B cells. Endotoxins (ENX) in PM2.5 and PM10 extracts and traces of metals (TMET) in PM2.5 extracts were also examined. IL-6 and IL-8 secretion and cytotoxicity were used as endpoints. ADEAO and ADEPRC extracts were found to be more cytotoxic than Non-ADE and ADEAO were more toxic than ADEPRC extracts. PM10 extracts from ADEAO and Post-ADEAO caused significant secretion of IL-8. IL-6 and IL-8 secretion was higher following treatment with PM10 and PM2.5 ADEPRC than with Non-ADEPRC extracts. ENX levels were found to be higher in PM10 ADEAO than in the rest of the samples tested. TMET levels were higher in PM2.5 ADEPRC than in Non-ADEPRC extracts. Deferoxamine significantly reduced cytotoxicity and IL-6 and IL-8 secretion whereas Polymyxin B did not. TMET in PM2.5 fractions is a major determinant in ADEPRC-induced toxicity and work in conjunction with ENX to cause toxicity to lung cells in vitro. ENX and TMET may be responsible, in part, for triggering PM-respiratory adverse responses in susceptible and predisposed individuals.
