Heavy mineral composition and texture of the recently formed fluvial delta sediment of Lake Nasser/Nubia,egypt and Sudan

Surficial sediment samples collected from the recently formed fluvial delta in Lake Nasser/Nubia (egypt and Sudan) in conjunction with data on bottom current and depth soundings are examined to interpret hydraulic-sorting processes and transport/depositional ***～500 km long northeastwardtrending lake,lies within egypt and Sudan,is created as a result of the construction of the Aswan High Dam in *** original grain-size distribution and heavy mineral compositions of these samples help to characterize the classical depositional features of the recently formed underwater delta-front and prodelta *** from the south,those delta-front deposits,which floor most of the narrow-shallow basin of Lake Nubia,are characterized by thick coarse-grained sandy deposits,rich in heavy minerals (averaged 12.8%).This delta-front is followed to the northeast by thin layers of prodelta mud,poor in heavy mineral contents (averaged 0.6%).These layers cover the entire broad basin of Lake *** northeasterly downslope fining-trend,along with a continuous decrease in heavy mineral composition,along the length of the lake,are attributable to processes of grain sorting,which take place due to contrasting densities and grain *** processes lead to the concentration of heavy mineral placer,mostly in the delta-front *** sorting mechanism,in turn,is controlled by the interplay of unidirectional-directed northeastward current,physiographic characteristics of the lake,including topographic configuration,geometry (cross-section),and floor topography (slope gradient).In terms of mineral exploration,the highest proportion of mineral grades in the delta-front sediments is likely to be considered as a viable source for economic placers that require more planning initiatives for industrial and commercial evaluation.

Beach erosion along the coastline of Alexandria, egypt

Long-term varations in beach width of Alexandria Governorate have ben analyzed using two sets of aerial photos taken in 1955 and 1983. The analysis reveals that a major part of most beaches has been subjecded to coastal erosion except for only beaches. The esthated long-term rate of erosion is approximately 0. 20 m/*** Maamoura, located east of Alexandria is selected to evaluate seasonal vacations. Sand volume lOsses are found to be 450 m3/ (m. a) for the entire beach length (1. 2 km). The annual sand transport by wind is estimated as about 37.7 m3. Subtracting this amount of sand from the net sand loss 450 m3/ (cm. a) yields 412.3 m3/(cm. a) of eroded sand caused by the action of currents and waves.

Ra's Abdah of the north eastern Desert of egypt:the role of granitic dykes in the formation of radioactive mineralization,evidenced by zircon morphology and chemistry

Syenogranitic dykes in the north of egypt's eastern Desert are of geological and economic interest because of the presence of magmatic and supergene enrichment of radioactive mineralization. Zircon crystal morphology within the syenogranitic dykes allows precise definition of sub-alkaline series granites and crystallized at mean temperature of about 637 °C. The growth pattern of the zircons suggest magmatic and hydrothermal origins of radioactive mineralization. Hydrothermal processes are responsible for the formation of significant zircon overgrowth; high U-zircon margins might have occurred contemporaneously with the emplacement of syenogranitic dykes which show anomalous uranium(e U) and thorium(e Th) contents of up to 1386 and 7330 ppm, *** chemistry revealed a relative increase of Hf consistent with decreasing Zr content, suggesting the replacement of Zr by Hf during hydrothermal *** uranium mineralization is present and recognized by the presence of uranophane and autunite.

Oligocene subduction-related plutonism in the Nodoushan area,Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic belt: Petrogenetic constraints from U-Pb zircon geochronology and isotope geochemistry

Geochemical data and Sr-Nd isotopes of the host rocks and magmatic microgranular enclaves(MMes)collected from the Oligocene Nodoushan Plutonic Complex(NPC) in the central part of the Urumieh-Dokhtar Magmatic Belt(UDMB) were studied in order to better understand the magmatic and geodynamic evolution of the UDMB. New U-Pb zircon ages reveal that the NPC was assembled incrementally over ca. 5 m.y., during two main episodes at 30.52 ± 0.11 Ma and 30.06 ± 0.10 Ma in the early Oligocene(middle Rupelian) for dioritic and granite intrusives, and at 24.994 ± 0.037 Ma and 24.13 ± 0.19 Ma in the late Oligocene(latest Chattian) for granodioritic and diorite porphyry units,respectively. The spherical to ellipsoidal enclaves are composed of diorite to monzodiorite and minor gabbroic diorite(SiO_2 = 47.73-57.36 wt.%; Mg# = 42.15-53.04); the host intrusions are mainly granite,granodiorite and diorite porphyry(SiO_2 = 56.51-72.35 wt.%; Mg# = 26.29-50.86). All the samples used in this study have similar geochemical features, including enrichment in large ion lithophile elements(LILes, e.g. Rb, Ba, Sr) and light rare earth elements(LRees) relative to high field strength elements(HFSes) and heavy rare earth elements(HRees). These features, combined with a relative depletion in Nb,Ta, Ti and P, are characteristic of subduction-related magmas. Isotopic data for the host rocks display ISr = 0.705045-0.707959, εNd(t) =-3.23 to +3.80, and the Nd model ages(TDM) vary from 0.58 Ga to 1.37 Ga. Compared with the host rocks, the MMes are relatively homogeneous in isotopic composition,with Isr ranging from 0.705513 to 0.707275 and εNd(t) from -1.46 to 4.62. The MMes have TDM ranging from 0.49 Ga to 1.39 Ga. Geochemical and isotopic similarities between the MMes and their host rocks demonstrate that the enclaves have mixed origins and were most probably formed by interactions between the lower crust-and mantle-derived magmas. Concentrations of organophosphate esters in drinking water from the United Kingdom:Implications for human exposure

Data on the presence of organophosphate esters(OPes)in drinking water and its significance as a pathway of exposure are *** this study,we measure for the first time,concentrations of eight OPes in 50 UK drinking water *** mean concentrations of ∑8OPes were:6.4 and 11 ng/L in bottled(n=25)and tap water samples(n=25),*** of ∑8OPes in tap water(mean:11 ng/L)exceed significantly those in bottled water(mean:6.4 ng/L)(p˂0.01).Moreover,UK tap water is more contaminated with chlorinated,aryl-,and alkyl-OPes than bottled *** predominant OPes detected were:tris(butoxyethyl)phosphate(TBOeP),tris(2-chloroethyl)phosphate(TCeP),and tris(2-chloroisopropyl)phosphate(TCIPP)with arithmetic mean concentrations in the two water sample types ranging between(3.5e3.8 ng/L),(0.60-3.0 ng/L),and(1.02-2.9 ng/L),*** daily intakes(eDIs)(mean and high-end exposure)via drinking water for different sectors of the UK population were:infants(0.93 and 6.4 ng/kg bw/day)˃toddlers(0.46 and 3.1 ng/kg bw/day)˃children(0.35 and 2.3 ng/kg bw/day)˃adults(0.28 and 2.1 ng/kg bw/day).Based on these data,exposure to ∑8OPes via drinking water is much lower than via:food,indoor dust ingestion,inhalation,and dermal uptake for adults and ***,our eDIs were lower than relevant reference dose(RfD)***,combining our drinking water ingestion data with exposure via other pathways revealed overall exposure to 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate(eHDPP)and TCIPP to approach health-based limit values for UK toddlers under a high-end exposure scenario.

Association between low molecular polypeptide 7 single nucleotide polymorphism and response to therapy in hepatitis C virus infection

AIM: To investigate the relationship between low molecular polypeptide-7 (LMP-7) gene polymorphism and response to interferon (IFN) therapy in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients. MeTHODS: LMP-7 polymorphism at codon 49 with nucleotide substitution from A to C was amplified in 104 chronic HCV patients of genotype 4. The amplicons were digested with restriction endonuclease Bsm I and the produced restriction fragment length polymorphism was analyzed. Patients received IFN + regional blood volume therapy for 48 wk and the frequency of thissingle nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was statistically correlated with treatment response. The exclusion criteria for these patients were stated by the national health program for treating viral hepatitis. Main exclusion criteria included co-infection with hepatitis B virus or schistosomiasis, thyroid dysfunction, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, history of long term drug or alcohol intake and autoimmune hepatitis. Multivariate analyses were done to correlate LMP-7 SNP plus several factors such as age, gender, weight, serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and alanine aminotransferase levels, liver activity, fibrosis score and viral load with response to therapy. ReSULTS: The data presented in this study clearly demonstrated statistically significant differences between sustained virological response (SVR) (defined as the absence of HCV RNA levels in the patient's sera at least 6 mo after discontinuation of treatment) and non-response (NR) (where HCV RNA levels in the patient's sera never become undetectable for 6 mo during or after treatment). Variables were described as odds ratio with 95%CI. The data were considered significant if P values were ≤ 0.05; highly significant if P ery highly significant if P ent data showed that 91.7% of patients carrying LMP-7 C/C allele were associated with SVR, while the other two genotypes C/A and A/A were associated with NR patients, 83.3% and 64.3% respectively, showing that g

Flow cytometric detection of hepatitis C virus antigens in infected peripheral blood leukocytes: Binding and entry

AIM： We designed two synthetic-core-specific peptides core 1 （C1） and core 2 （C2）, and an e1-specific peptide （el）. We produced specific polyclonal antibodies against these peptides and used the antibodies for detection of HCV antigens on surface and within infected peripheral blood leukocytes. MeTHODS： Peripheral blood from a healthy individual who tested negative for HCV RNA was incubated with HCV type 4 infected serum for i h and 24 h at 37 ℃. Cells were stained by direct and indirect immunofluorescence and measured by flow cytometry. ReSULTS： After 1 h of incubation, antibodies against C1, C2, and el detected HCV antigens on the surface of 27%, 26% and 73% of monocytes respectively, while 10%, 5% and 9% of lymphocytes were positive with anti-C1, anti-C2 and anti-e1 respectively. Only 1-3% of granulocytes showed positive staining with anti-C1, anti-C2 and anti e1 antibodies. After 24 h of incubation, we found no surface staining with anti-C1, anti-C2 or anti-e1. Direct immunostaining using anti-C2 could not detect intracellular HCV antigens, after 1 h of incubation with the virus, while after 24 h of incubation, 28% of infected cells showed positive staining. Only plus strand RNA was detectable intracellularly as early as 1 h after incubation, and remained detectable throughout 48 h post-infection. Interestingly, minus RNA strand could not be detected after 1 h, but became strongly detectable intracellularly after 24 h post-infection. CONCLUSION： Monocytes and lymphocytes are the preferred target cells for HCV infection in peripheral blood leukocytes. Our specific anti-core and anti-e1 antibodies are valuable reagents for demonstration of HCV cell cycle. Also, HCV is capable of infecting and replicating in peripheral blood mononuclear cells as confirmed by detection of minus strand HCV RNA as well as intracellular staining of core HCV antigen.

The structural,electronic,and magnetic properties of the Nd-doped Rare earth aluminate,La1-xNdxAlO3（x = 0%to 100%） alloys are studied using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave（FP-LAPW） method within the density functional *** effects of the Nd substitution in La AlO3 are studied using the supercell *** computed electronic structure with the modified Becke–Johnson（m BJ） potential based approximation indicates that the La1-xNdxAlO3 alloys may possess half-metallic（HM） behaviors when doped with Nd of a finite density of states at the Fermi level（eF）.The direct and indirect band gaps are studied each as a function of x which is the concentration of Nddoped La *** calculated magnetic moments in the La1-xNdxAlO3 alloys are found to arise mainly from the Nd-4f state.A probable half-metallic nature is suggested for each of these systems with supportive integral magnetic moments and highly spin-polarized electronic structures in these doped systems at *** observed decrease of the band gap with the increase in the concentration of Nd doping in La AlO3 is a suitable technique for harnessing useful spintronic and magnetic devices.
