Contralateral eye study of refractive,topographic and aberrometric outcomes after femtosecond assisted myo Ring implantation and DALK for management of keratoconus

AIm：To evaluate the efficacy of femtosecond laser assisted myoRing intrastromal corneal implant and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty （DALK） for management of moderate to advanced keratoconus regarding the degree of changes in visual acuity, refraction, corneal asphericity and ***：A prospective non comparative interventional case study was conducted in Ophthalmology Department,Ain Shams University Hospital in the period from January 2015 to February 2017. The study included 30 eyes of moderate to advanced keratoconus. myoRing was implanted in one eye （Group Ⅰ） and DALK operation was performed in the contralateral eye of the same patient （Group Ⅱ）.Preoperative and 6mo post-operative uncorrected visual acuity（UCVA）, corrected distance visual acuity （CDVA）, spherical equivalent （SE）, corneal and refractive astigmatisms,keratometry and Q-value using topography images were acquired. Quality of vision was assessed in all eyes including total corneal, anterior corneal high order aberrations analysis at 5 mm pupil size and the Strehl ratio of point spread function （PSF） as an objective measure of ***：mean postoperative UCVA, CDVA, SE, refractive astigmatism,keratometryreadingsandasphericity were statistically improved compared to preoperative parameters in both groups （P〈0.05）. Significant reduction of all corneal aberrations following both techniques（P〈0.05） was achieved except mean trefoil and mean PSF in Group Ⅰ （P〉0.05）. Postoperative corneal aberrations were significantly lower in Group Ⅱ compared to Group Ⅰ.A statistically significant negative correlation was found in Group Ⅰ between the mean change in CDVA （logmAR）and the mean preoperative and mean postoperative total corneal aberrations root mean square （RmS; r=-0.78,P=0.04）. Also a statistically significant negative correlation was found between mean preoperative coma RmS and mean post PSF （r=-0.86, P=0.01）. Abu Furad is in the Central Eastern Desert,Egypt. It comprises metasediments, metavolcanics,metagabbros, syn-to late-orogenic granites, and post-orogenic granites, in addition to numerous dykes and veins of different shapes and composition invading all the older rocks cropping out in the study area. Field, petrographic,mineralogical, and chemical investigations led to the classification of Abu Furad granites as quartz diorite, tonalite,granodiorite, and *** oxide and trace element data revealed that the syn-to late-orogenic granites and post-orogenic granites are peraluminous. Syn-to lateorogenic granites originated from calc-alkaline volcanic arc–related magma; while the post-orogenic granites(syenogranite) are highly fractionated, calc-alkaline granite from a within plate regime. Radiometrically, the studied quartz diorite, tonalite, and granodiorite had lower uranium and thorium contents and higher eU/eTh ratios than the syenogranites. This may indicate that the syn-to late-orogenic rocks originated from sources depleted in these elements. The average e Th/eU ratio of syenogranites was higher than that of average continental crust, suggesting that the syenogranites are relatively depleted in U. The studied altered syenogranites were strongly enriched in U and Th compared to the Earth's crust. On the other hand, the average of e U in pegmatites is lower than the global average for uraniferous pegmatites. The most recorded accessory minerals in the altered syenogranites were thorite, fergusonite, samarskite, columbite, zircon, monazite, xenotime,apatite, fluorite, sphene, atacamite, and malachite, in addition to chromium and nickel inclusions.

Application of Homotopy Perturbation method and Parameter Expanding method to Fractional Van der Pol Damped Nonlinear Oscillator

In this study, homotopy perturbation method and parameter expanding method are applied to the motion equations of two nonlinear oscillators. Our results show that both the (HPm) and (PEm) yield the same results for the nonlinear problems. In comparison with the exact solution, the results show that these methods are very convenient for solving nonlinear equations and also can be used for strong nonlinear oscillators.

Role of the gut microbiota in inflammatory bowel disease pathogenesis: What have we learnt in the past 10 years?

Our understanding of the microbial involvement in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) pathogenesis has increased exponentially over the past decade. The development of newer molecular tools for the global assessment of the gut microbiome and the identification of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 2 in 2001 and other susceptibility genes for Crohn’s disease in particular has led to better understanding of the aetiopathogenesis of IBD. The microbial studies have elaborated the normal composition of the gut microbiome and its perturbations in the setting of IBD. This altered microbiome or “dysbiosis” is a key player in the protracted course of inflammation in IBD. Numerous genome-wide association studies have identified further genes involved in gastrointestinal innate immunity (including polymorphisms in genes involved in autophagy: ATG16L1 and IGRm), which have helped elucidate the relationship of the local innate immunity with the adjacent luminal bacteria. These developments have also spurred the search for specific pathogens which may have a role in the metamorphosis of the gut microbiome from a symbiotic entity to a putative pathogenic one. Here we review advances in our understanding of microbial involvement in IBD pathogenesis over the past 10 years and offer insight into how this will shape our therapeutic management of the disease in the coming years.

Changes in corneal biomechanics and intraocular pressure following Femto-LASIK using Goldman applanation tonometry and ocular response analyzer

AIm:To compare intraocular pressure(IOP)measurements before and after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)with a femtosecond laser for flap creation using ocular response analyzer(ORA)and Goldmann applanation tonometry,and to identify factors that may influence the preoperative and postoperative ***:A prospective study conducted on myopic patients who underwent LASIK using a femtosecond laser for flap *** patients were evaluated preoperatively,6 wk and 3 mo postoperatively for manifest refraction(mR),keratometric(K)readings and central corneal thickness(CCT)using a scheimpflug-based *** resistance factor(CRF),corneal hysteresis(CH),Goldmann correlated IOP(IOPg)and corneal compensated IOP(IOPcc)were measured using ORA besides IOP assessment by Goldman applanation tonometry(GAT).RESULTS:There was a statistically significant decrease in measures of IOPg by 3.35±0.83 mm Hg,followed by GAT which decreased by 2.2±0.44 mm Hg,and the least affected by operation was IOPcc which decreased only by 0.87±0.1 mm Hg after 6 *** 3 mo follow up there was a statistically significant decrease in IOPcc which decreased only by 0.76±0.4 mm Hg,followed by IOP GAT by 1.6±0.5 mm Hg,and the most affected by operation was IOPg which decreased by 2.3±0.3 mm ***,there was a statistically significant decrease in CH and CRF after 6 wk and 3 *** 3 mo,the preoperative mR and preoperative GAT were prominent significant predictors of the postoperative GAT *** prediction equation was ***:IOP measurements and corneal biomechanical factors reduce significantly after LASIK with a femtosecond laser for flap *** IOPcc values are less influenced by changes in corneal properties than IOPg and GAT,indicating that IOPcc may provide the most reliable measurement of IOP after this procedure.

Background: Grit is used by birds mainly for grinding hard food items but can also serve a nutritional role as a source of minerals. Ingestion of grit by birds has been documented primarily in species that feed on seeds and *** feeding mainly on nectar and small arthropods, hummingbirds also ingest grit, but why they do so is unclear. We quantified the number of grit particles in the stomachs of six species of hummingbirds during an annual cycle in a seasonal ecosystem of West ***: We compared the number of grit particles in the stomachs of different hummingbird species(mexican Violetear Colibri thalassinus, Amethyst-throated mountaingem Lampornis amethystinus, White-eared Hummingbird Basilinna leucotis, Rivoli's Hummingbird Eugenes fulgens, Broad-tailed Hummingbird Selasphorus platycercus, and Rufous Hummingbird S. rufus), and between sex and age categories during the different seasons of a year. To deter-mine if grit was used to grind ingested arthropods, we examined the relationships between the number of grit parti-cles, the biomass of arthropods ingested, and their chitin ***: Although species did not differ in the number of grit particles in their stomachs, we found that grit was mostly ingested by female individuals, with only one male of one species(mexican Violetear) presenting grit in its stomach. We also found that female hummingbirds had grit in their stomachs during the rainy and the cold-dry season(June-February) but not during the warm-dry season(march-may). Our analyses revealed no relationship between the number of grit particles and the amount of ingested arthropods and arthropod chitin content. Objective:To investigate the effect of Cannabis sativa resin and/or tramadol,two commonly drugs of abuse on acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activities as a possible cholinergic biomarkers of neurotoxicity induced by these ***:rats were treated with cannabis resin(5,10 or 20 mg/kg)(equivalent to the active constituent A'-tetrahydrocannabinol),tramadol(5,10 and 20 mg/kg) or tramadol(10 mg/kg)combined with cannabis resin(5,10 and 20 mg/kg) subcutaneously daily for 6 ***(AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase(BChE) activities were measured in brain and *** also measured the activity of paraoxonase-1(PONl) in serum of rats treated with these ***:(i) AChE activity in brain increased after 10-20 mg/kg cannabis resin(by 16.3%-36.5%).AChE activity in brain did not change after treatment with 5-20 mg/kg *** administration of both cannabis resin(5,10 or 20 mg/kg) and tramadol(10 mg/kg) resulted in decreased brain AChE activity by 14.1%,12.9%and 13.6%,respectively;(ii) BChE activity in serum was markedly and dose-dependenlly inhibited by cannabis resin(by 60.9%-76.9%).BChE activity also decreased by 17.6%-36.5%by 10-20mg/kg tramadol and by 57.2%-63.9%by the cannabis resin/tramadol combined treatment;(iii)Cannabis resin at dose of 20 mg/kg increased serum PONl activity by 25.7%.In contrast,tramadol given at 5,10 and 20 mg/kg resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in serum PON1 activity by 19%,36.7%,and 46.1%,***,treatment with cannabis resin plus tramadol resulted in 40.2%,35.8%,30.7%inhibition of PONl activity compared to the saline ***:these data suggest that cannabis resin exerts different effects on AChE and BChE activities which could contribute to the memory problems and the decline in cognitive function in chronic users.

mixed phase sodium manganese oxide as cathode for enhanced aqueous zinc-ion storage

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries have been regarded as a promising alternative to large-scale energy storage, due to associated low-cost, improved safety and environmental friendliness. However, a high-performance cathode material for both rate capability and specific capacity is still a challenge. One kind of the more promising candidates are sodium manganese oxide(NmO) materials, although they suffer from individual issues and need to be further improved. Herein, we present a novel mixed phase NmO material composed of nearly equal amounts of Na(0.55)mn2O4 and Na(0.7)mnO(2.05). The structured configuration with particle size of 200–500 nm is found to be beneficial towards improving the ion diffusion rate during the charge/discharge process. Compared with Na(0.7)mnO(2.05) and Na(0.55)mn2O4, the mixed phase NmO demonstrates an enhanced rate capability and excellent long-term cycling stability with a capacity retention of 83% after 800 cycles. more importantly, the system also delivers an impressive energy density and power density, as 378 W·h·kg^-1 at 68.7 W·kg^-1, or 172 W·h·kg^-1 at 1705 W·kg^-1. The superior electrochemical performance is ascribed to the fast Zn^2+ diffusion rate because of a large ratio of capacitive contribution(63.9% at 0.9 m V·s^-1). Thus, the mixed phase route provides a novel strategy to enhance electrochemical performance, enabling mixed phase NmO as very promising material towards large-scale energy-storage applications.

Galactagogue effects of musa x paradisiaca flower extract on lactating rats

Objective:To investigate the potential of musa x paradisiaca(m.x paradisiaca)flower extracts in promoting milk production of lactating rats and its effects on growth of the suckling pups. methods:Galactagogue activity was evaluated in terms of quantity of milk produced from the rats treated with petroleum ether,ethanol or water extracts of the *** rats(n=5) of Spraque Dawley with six pups each were administered with the extracts in the amount of 500 mg/kg body weight,while the control rats were given an equivalent amount of distilled *** rats were daily administered via oral feeding starting from Day 5 until Day 14 and the performance of milk production was measured along the experimental period by weight-suckle-weight method. Results were statistically analyzed using SPSS by means of ANOVA at 0.05 and was expressed as their mean±standard *** rates of pups’ growth were measured as the weight gain along the experimental ***:The rats treated with aqueous extract produced higher milk than control and ethanol *** extract was identified to increase milk production by 25%,while petroleum ether extract by 18%.The mean of yields produced by the rats during suckling period for aqueous,petroleum ether,ethanol and control were 4.62±2.45,4.37±1.93,3.65±1.89 and 3.69±1.79,*** rates of pups for the rats treated with control,aqueous, ethanol extract and petroleum ether were(1.85±0.49),(1.78±0.56),(1.65±0.46)and(1.56±0.42) g/pup, ***:The present study reveals the potential of m.x paradisiaca flower to enhance milk production of nursing mothers which could be exploited for commercialization of the isolated extract.

In recent years,the number of Gun-related incidents has crossed over 250,000 per year and over 85%of the existing 1 billion firearms are in civilian hands,manual monitoring has not proven effective in detecting *** is why an automated weapon detection system is *** automated convolutional neural networks(CNN)weapon detection systems have been proposed in the past to generate good ***,These techniques have high computation overhead and are slow to provide real-time detection which is essential for the weapon detection *** models have a high rate of false negatives because they often fail to detect the guns due to the low quality and visibility issues of surveillance *** research work aims to minimize the rate of false negatives and false positives in weapon detection while keeping the speed of detection as a key *** proposed framework is based on You Only Look Once(YOLO)and Area of Interest(AOI).Initially,themodels take pre-processed frames where the background is removed by the use of the Gaussian blur *** proposed architecture will be assessed through various performance parameters such as False Negative,False Positive,precision,recall rate,and F1 *** results of this research work make it clear that due to YOLO-v5s high recall rate and speed of detection are *** reached 0.010 s per frame compared to the 0.17 s of the Faster *** is promising to be used in the field of security and weapon detection.
