To the Editor:Although liver transplantation is likely used to treat individuals with end-stage liver disease because of non-neoplastic reasons,the adoption of liver transplantation in the management of primary liver cancer has been expanding in the past decades[1-3].Prior population-based studies for liver transplantation,in the cancer sphere,focused on delineating the outcomes of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)treated with transplantation versus other locoregional treatments[4-6].

Background: The 8 th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer(AJCC) staging system for pancreatic exocrine adenocarcinoma has been released. The current study seeks to assess the 7 th and 8 th editions among patients registered within the surveillance, epidemiology and end results(SEER) ***: SEER database(2010–2013) has been accessed through SEER*Stat program and AJCC 8 th edition stages were reconstructed utilizing the collaborative stage descriptions. Kaplan–Meier analysis of overall survival and pancreatic cancer-specific survival analyses(according to both 7 th and 8 th editions and according to whether pathological or clinical staging were conducted) has been performed. Multivariate analysis of factors affecting pancreatic cancer-specific survival was also conducted through a Cox proportional hazard ***: A total of 18 948 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma were identified in the period from 2010–2013. Pancreatic cancer-specific survival among pathologically staged patients and according to the 8 th edition showed significant differences for all pair wise comparisons among different stages(P < 0.0001) except for the comparison between stage IA and stage IB(P = 0.307) and the comparison between stage IB and stage IIA(P = 0.116). Moreover, P value for stage IA vs IIA was 0.014; while pancreatic cancer-specific survival according to the 7 th edition among pathologically staged patients showed significant differences for all pair wise comparisons among different stages(P < 0.0001) except for the comparison between IA and IB(P = 0.072), the comparison between stage IIA and stage IIB(P = 0.065), the comparison between stage IIA and stage Ⅲ(P = 0.059) and the comparison between IIB and Ⅲ(P = 0.595).Among clinically staged patients(i.e. those who did not undergo initial radical surgery), the prognostic performance of both 7 th and 8 th stages for both overall survival and pancreatic cancer-specific survival was ***: Th

In this study we present the design and realization of a tunable dual band wireless power transfer(TDB-WPT)coupled resonator *** frequency response of the tunable band can be controlled using a surface-mounted *** transmitter(Tx)and the receiver(Rx)circuits are *** top layer contains a feed line with an impedance of 50Ω.Two identical half rings defected ground structures(HR-DGSs)are loaded on the bottom using a varactor *** propose a solution for restricted WPT systems working at a single band application according to the operating *** effects of geometry,orientation,relative distance,and misalignments on the coupling coefficients were *** validate the simulation results,the proposed TDB-WPT system was fabricated and *** system occupied a space of 40 mm×40 *** can deliver power to the receiver with an average coupling efficiency of 98%at the tuned band from 817 to 1018 MHz and an efficiency of 95%at a fixed band of 1.6 GHz at a significant transmission distance of 22 *** results of the measurements accorded well with those of an equivalent model and the simulation.

This study explores the role of Bedouins in preserving Palestinian land through their own means of community resilience through the concept of“Art of being”and its entailed“Arts of presence and persistence”.This is examined through the correlation between Bedouin lifestyle and the spatial distribution of structures within“Al-Kurshan”Bedouin clan in Area C in the West *** on a mixed qualitative and spatial methodologies,information was gathered through semi-structured interviews with Al-Kurshan Bedouins and employees of organizations supporting Bedouins,on-site observation,and analyses of maps and photos,in addition to drawings and *** spatial distribution of Bedouin built structures is analyzed in relation to landscape and climate,social aspects within the families,and available service and sectorial *** analyses give insight on how Bedouins struggle against adopting other *** study shows that the Bedouins are slowly forced to negotiate their semi-nomadic lifestyle,but resist giving up their right to exist against the threat of forced *** maintain their“Art of being”which partly represents their own way of safeguarding Palestinian lands from *** study contributes to the wider discussion of spatial dynamics of Bedouins and their community resilience within the Palestinian geopolitical context.

Unraveling the nature of sensing in electrostatic MEMS gas sensors

This paper investigates the fundamental sensing mechanism of electrostatic MEMS gas *** compares among the responsivities of a set of MEMS isopropanol sensors before and after functionalization,and in the presence and absence of electrostatic fields when operated in static and dynamic detection *** the static mode,we found that the sensors do not exhibit a measurable change in displacement due to added *** the other hand,bare sensors showed a clear change in displacement in response to isopropanol *** the dynamic mode,functionalized sensors showed a measurable frequency shift due to the added mass of isopropanol *** the presence of strong electrostatic fields,the measured frequency shift was found to be threefold larger than that in their absence in response to the same concentration of isopropanol *** enhanced responsivity of dynamic detection allows the sensors to measure the vapor mass captured by the functional material,which is not the case for static *** detection of isopropanol by bare sensors in static mode shows that change in the medium permittivity is the primary sensing *** enhanced responsivity of dynamic mode sensors when operated in strong electrostatic fields shows that their sensing mechanism is a combination of a weaker added mass effect and a stronger permittivity *** findings show that electrostatic MEMS gas sensors are independent of the direction of the gravitational field and are,thus,robust to changes in *** is erroneous to refer to them as‘gravimetric’sensors.

AIM To evaluate the prognostic value of site-specific metastases among patients with metastatic pancreaticc arcinoma registered within the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results(SEER) *** SEER database(2010-2013) has been queried through SEER*Stat program to determine the presentation, treatment outcomes and prognostic outcomes of metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma according to the site of metastasis. In this study, metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients were classified according to the site of metastases(liver, lung, bone, brain and distant lymph nodes). We utilized chi-square test to compare the clinicopathological characteristics among different sites of metastases. We used Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank testing for survival comparisons. We employed Cox proportional model to perform multivariate analyses of the patient population; and accordingly hazard ratios with corresponding 95%CI were generated. Statistical significance was considered if a two-tailed P value < 0.05 was achieved. RESULTS A total of 13233 patients with stage Ⅳ pancreatic cancer and known sites of distant metastases were identified in the period from 2010-2013 and they were included into the current analysis. Patients with isolated distant nodal involvement or lung metastases have better overall and pancreatic cancer-specific survival compared to patients with isolated liver metastases(for overall survival: lung vs liver metastases: P < 0.0001; distant nodal vs liver metastases: P < 0.0001)(for pancreatic cancer-specific survival: lung vs liver metastases: P < 0.0001; distant nodal vs liver metastases: P < 0.0001). 本文设计并实现了一个可调谐双频无线电能传输耦合谐振器系统。可调谐波段的频率响应可以使用表面贴装变容二极管进行控制。发射器和接收器电路是对称的。顶层包含一个阻抗为50Ω的馈线。通过使用变容二极管，两个相同的半环缺陷接地结构被加载在底部。针对工作在单频段（基于工作频率）的受限无线电能传输系统，提出一种解决方案。研究了几何形状、方向、相对距离和偏移对耦合系数的影响。为验证仿真结果，制作并测试了所提可调谐双频无线电能传输系统。系统面积为40 mm×40 mm。在有效传输距离为22 mm时，在817～1018 MHz调谐频段，以98%的平均耦合效率向接收器输送电能，在1.6GHz固定频段，效率为95%。测量结果与等效模型的模拟结果吻合较好。
