Background:The important roles of liver and kidney in the elimination of injurious chemicals make them highly susceptible to the noxious activities of various toxicants including cobalt chloride(CoCl_(2)).This study was designed to investigate the role of glycine in the mitigation of hepato-renal toxicities associated with CoCl_(2)***:Forty-two(42)male rats were grouped as Control;(CoCl_(2);300 ppm);CoCl_(2)+Glycine(50 mg/kg);CoCl_(2)+Glycine(100 mg/kg);Glycine(50 mg/kg);and Glycine(100 mg/kg).The markers of hepatic and renal damage,oxidative stress,the antioxidant defense system,histopathology,and immunohistochemical localization of neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin(NGAL)and renal podocin were ***:Glycine significantly reduced the markers of oxidative stress(malondialdehyde content and H_(2)O_(2) generation),liver function tests(ALT,AST,and ALP),markers of renal function(creatinine and BUN),and decreased the expression of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin(NGAL)and podocin compared with rats exposed to CoCl_(2)toxicity without glycine *** lesions including patchy tubular epithelial necrosis,tubular epithelial degeneration and periglomerular inflammation in renal tissues,and severe portal hepatocellular necrosis,inflammation,and duct hyperplasia were observed in hepatic tissues of rats exposed to CoCl_(2)toxicity,but were mild to absent in glycine-treated ***:The results of this study clearly demonstrate protective effects of glycine against CoCl_(2)-induced tissue injuries and derangement of physiological activities of the hepatic and renal systems in *** protective effects are mediated via augmentation of total antioxidant capacity and upregulation of NGAL and podocin expression.

Ceramic electrochemical cells(CECs)are promising devices for clean and efficient energy conversion and storage due to their high energy efficiency,more extended system durability,and less expensive ***,the search for suitable materials with desired properties,including high ionic and electronic conductivity,thermal stability,and chemical compatibility,presents ongoing challenges that impede widespread adoption and further advancement in the *** intelligence(AI)has emerged as a versatile tool capable of enhancing and expediting the materials discovery cycle in CECs through data-driven modeling,simulation,and optimization ***,we comprehensively review the state-of-the-art AI applications for materials design and optimization for CECs,covering various material aspects,database construction,data pre-processing,and AI *** also present some representative case studies of AI-predicted and synthesized materials for CECs and provide insightful highlights about their *** emphasize the main implications and contributions of the AI approach for advancing the CEC technology,such as reducing the trial-and-error experiments,exploring the vast materials space,discovering novel and optimal materials,and enhancing the understanding of the materials-performance *** also discuss the AI approach’s main limitations and future directions for CECs,such as addressing the data and model challenges,improving and extending the AI models and methods,and integrating with other computational and experimental *** conclude by suggesting some potential applications and collaborations for AI in materials design for CECs.

Regenerative fuel cells can operate alternately as an electrolyzer and as a fuel cell,frequently involving water as a reactant or *** the electrode surface to manipulate water can prevent electrode flooding and enhance the electrode's mass transfer efficiency by facilitating better contact with gaseous ***,conventional electrodes face difficulties in allowing water droplets to penetrate in a single direction leaving *** this work to address this issue,a wettability gradient electrode is designed and fabricated for efficient water manipulation in regenerative fuel *** findings demonstrate that the water removal strategy in the electrolyzer mode yields the highest ammonia yield and Faradaic efficiency of 3.39×10-10 mol s-1 cm-2 and 0.49%,***,in the fuel cell mode,the discharging process sustains for approximately 20.5 h,which is six times longer than the conventional *** ability to sustain the discharging process for extended periods is particularly advantageous in regenerative fuel cells,as it enables the cells to operate for longer periods without the need for regeneration.

Knowledge and awareness of human mpox infection among healthcare workers:A cross-sectional study in southwestern Nigeria

Objective:To identify the knowledge and awareness level of human mpox viral infection among healthcare workers in southwestern ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted in Ekiti State,southwest Nigeria among 316 healthcare workers that were selected through a systematic random *** were collected with the aid of a semi-structured,self-administered *** Chi-square test and binary logistic regression were used to find the association between the independent and dependent *** significance level was set at P-value<***:Two hundred and twenty-two(70.3%)of the respondents were aged≤40 years,mean age(36±9)years,189(59.8%)were female,306(96.8%)were Christians,and 203(64.2%)were *** hundred and fourteen(99.4%)of the respondents were aware of mpox *** sources of information about mpox were medical education(44.0%),radio/television(32.0%)and newspaper(21.0%).However,among those aware of the disease,209(67.0%)demonstrated poor knowledge *** than 5 years’experience of medical practice was the only significant predictor of higher knowledge level of the disease(OR 1.76,95%CI 1.01-3.06;P=0.046).Conclusions:Despite the high awareness level of mpox infection among healthcare workers,there still exists a huge knowledge *** is recommended that targeted intervention could be directed towards continuous medical education and simulation exercises on re-emerging infectious diseases like mpox to improve the knowledge of the healthcare workers.

Inter-cluster Voltage Balancing Control of Modular Multilevel Cascaded Converter Under Unbalanced Grid Voltage

This paper presents a novel inter-cluster direct current(DC)capacitor voltage balancing control scheme for the single-star configured modular multilevel cascaded converter(MMCC)-based static synchronous compensator(STATCOM)under unbalanced grid *** negative-sequence component of grid voltage at the point of common connection(PCC)causes unbalanced active power flow in the phase limbs of *** leads to the imbalance of DC voltages of the sub-module capacitors across the MMCC phases,and consequently,the malfunction of *** proposed solution is to inject both negative-sequence current(NSC)and zero-sequence voltage(ZSV)into the phase limbs of MMCC.A quantification factor Qf is used to achieve the sharing of inter-cluster active pow-er between the NSC and ZSV injection *** determination of the quantification factor has been *** addition to maintaining the DC voltages of sub-module capacitor across the MMCC phases balanced,it also prevents the overcurrent and overvoltage of converter by injecting NSC and ZSV with the right *** control scheme is validated on a 3.54 kV 1.2 MVA power system using MMCC-based STATCOM with 3-level bridge cells as *** results show that the proposed scheme provides superior effectiveness in eliminating the voltage imbalance of DC capacitor in the phase limb while maintaining low voltage and current ratings.

Combination of Piper guineense Essential Oil with Cowpea Varietal Resistance in Control of Cowpea Seed Beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus Fabricius (Coleoptera： Chrysomelidae： Bruchinae)

To reduce the risks associated with over-dependence on synthetic insecticides and ensure leguminous food security, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the potentials of integrating Piper guineense essential oil （PgEO） with cowpea varietal resistance in the control of cowpea seed beetle, Callosobruehus maculatus Fabricius. Four cowpea varieties （Sokoto, Drum, Oloyin and Gwallam） were studied. Data collected included oviposition, progeny emergence, Reproductive Efficiency （RE） and Percentage Seed Damage （PSD）. At first filial generation, numbers of eggs laid on Oloyin variety treated with 25 μL PgEO per 25 g cowpea seeds （2.15） were significantly （p〈0.05） lower than the values obtained in untreated cowpea （3.61） and hexane-treated seeds （3.07）. C. maculatus RE on Oloyin （33.73） was significantly （p〈0.05） lower than values obtained on other varieties （47.34-54.67） for seeds without PgEO; and were significantly greater than 0.00 observed on Oloyin seeds treated with 50 pL PgEO. PSD on Oloyin （6.63%） was significantly （p〈0.05） lower than the values obtained on Sokoto （10.04%） and Drum （9.79%） for seeds without PgEO, while there was no damage in Oloyin treated with 50 pL PgEO. Significantly （p〈0.05） lower F2 progeny emergence occurred on Oloyin （4.02） and Sokoto （4.71） compared with Drum （9.03） and Gwallam （6.07） from the untreated cowpea seeds. The results implied that application of PgEO to Oloyin gave better protection from infestation of C. maculatus than other varieties. Hence, combination of varietal resistance with PgEO for management ofbruchid could be an effective mean of improving cowpea food security.

A new inter-cluster DC capacitor voltage balancing scheme for a delta connected modular multilevel cascaded converter (MMCC)-based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is presented. A detailed power flow analysis of applying negative sequence current (NSC) and zero-sequence current (ZSC) injection methods in addressing the issue of inter-cluster DC voltage imbalance under unbalance grid voltage is carried out. A control scheme is proposed which integrates both inter-cluster methods using a quantification factor QF. This is used to achieve the sharing of the inter-cluster active power between the NSC and ZSC injection methods. An accurate method of determining the quantification factor is also presented. The proposed method offers better sub-module DC capacitor voltage balancing and prevents converter overcurrent. The influence of unbalanced grid voltage on the delta connected MMCC-based STATCOM rating using this integrated cluster balancing technique is investigated. The control scheme is verified with a 5 kV 1.2MVA MMCC-STATCOM using 3-level bridge sub-modules, and the results show the advantages of the proposed method over other inter-cluster methods.

Pansemiotism： A Cognitive Semiotic Reflection on Plant, Animal and Human Lives Correlates

This essay is a follow-up to my earlier paper with Akinwale （2013） and my monograph （2016）; the two studies focus on how natural/environmental phenomena enrich Yoruba proverbs and Yoruba musical discourse respectively. In the present essay, I elucidate the theory of pansemiotism or pansemiotics. I also dwell on how such panserniotic phenomena as actions of some animals and plants serve as signs or sign vehicles for understanding certain human activities or practices and for explaining some of the riddles and metaphors of life. The essay indicates that some aspects of the semiosis in plants and animals are ontologically associated with human conducts as the Yoruba view-ise 6niyhn nise .eranko （human actions are exact correlates of animal actions） suggests. The study also shows that some aspects of plant and animal semiosis further serve in creating several dimensions of knowledge for humans and that they can be called upon in re-defining, modifying and even in justifying （if it is sensible to do so） quite a number of human thoughts and practices across cultures. The essay is significant in contributing to the understanding of pansemiotics as a sub-theory of ecosemiotics and of the notion of naturalistic epistemology, a sub-field of philosophy, which conceives of all knowledge in terms of nature.

Lately,utilizing a novel electrically rechargeable liquid fuel(e-fuel),a fuel cell has been designed and fabricated,which is demonstrated to achieve a much better performance than alcoholic liquid fuel cells ***,its current performance,which thus hampers its wide application,demands further improvement to meet up with industrial ***,to attain a better performance for this system,an in-depth understanding of the complex physical and chemical processes within this fuel cell is *** this end,in this work,a two-dimensional transient model has been developed to gain an extensive knowledge of a passive e-fuel cell and analyze the major factors limiting its *** effects of various structural parameters and operating conditions are studied to identify the underlying performance-limiting factors,where deficient mass transport is found to be one of the major *** increment of anode porosity and thickness are found to be effective methods of improving the cell *** study therefore provides insights on achieving further per-formance advancement of the fuel cell in the future.
