Background Perioperative mortality is one of the tools that can help to assess the adequacy of healthcare delivery in a *** audit was conducted to determine the 24-hour,7-day and 30-day perioperative mortality rates and the predictors of mortality in a pediatric surgical *** This was a prospective study of children whose ages ranged from a few hours to 15 years and who were operated on between May 2019 and April *** primary outcome was to determine the incidence of in-hospital perioperative *** A total of 530 procedures were done in 502 *** ages ranged from a few hours to 15 years with a median of 36 *** 24-hour,7-day and 30-day mortality rates were 113.2 per 10000 procedures[95%confidence interval(CI)=40 to 210],207.6 per 10000 procedures(95%CI=110 to 320)and 320.8 per 10000 procedures(95%CI=190 to 470),*** anomalies complicated by postoperative sepsis contributed to death in the majority of *** predictors of mortality were neonatal age group[adjusted odds ratio(AOR)=19.92,95%CI=2.32 to 170.37,p=0.006],higher American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status III and above(AOR=21.6,95%CI=3.05 to 152.91,p=0.002),emergency surgery(AOR=17.1,95%CI=5.21 to 60.27,p=0.001),congenital anomalies(AOR=12.7,95%CI=3.37 to 47.52,p=0.001),and multiple surgical procedures(AOR=9.7,95%CI=2.79 to 33.54,p=0.001).Conclusion Perioperative mortality remains high in our institution.

In this work, three decentralized control configuration designs—independent, sequential and simultaneous designs—were used in multivariable feedback configurations for PI control of the riser and regenerator temperatures of FCCU in order to compare their performances. Control design was formulated as optimization problem to minimize infinity norm of weighted sensitivity functions subject to μ-interaction measure bound on diagonal complementary functions of the closed loop system. The optimization problem was solved using augmented Lagrangian genetic algorithm. Simulation results show that simultaneous and independent designs give good response with less overshoot and with no oscillation. Bound on μ-interaction measure is satisfied for both designs meaning that their nominal stabilities are guaranteed;however, it is marginal for simultaneous design. Simultaneous design outperforms independent design in term of robust performance while independent design gives the best performance in terms of robust stability. Sequential design gives the worst performance out of the three designs.

Errant vehicles occur as a result of the driver losing control of the vehicle. This may be due to sudden illness, dozing off or skidding while attempting a manoeuvre. In containing such an errant vehicle on a highway, the priority is to avoid collision with other vehicles. A sloped highway median provides a run-off area for such vehicles where the vehicle can be slowed down and stopped without the danger of being re-directed into the path of other vehicles as may occur with edge barriers. Here, the effect of a containment barrier at the bottom of the sloped median is studied with a view to prevent the vehicle from being redirected outside the median after colliding with the barrier. The focus of this work is on the change of kinematic states due to the collision, so a momentum-based vehicle collision analysis is developed, with the collision energy loss related to the vehicle stiffness being considered by coefficient of restitution. The average maximum lateral displacements post-collision are read from the diagram of vehicle x-y trajectories. In this way, the most suitable median slope 1:6 is selected.

In this study, an integrated remote sensing and geophysical (aeromagnetic and geo-electric) methods was employed to assess the potential of groundwater in a basement complex terrain of Okene and its environs, Southwestern, Nigeria. Landsat imagery acquired over the study area was processed in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment to delineate the surface lineaments, drainage networks and their orientations. Aeromagnetic data over the area were analyzed and its derivative maps were interpreted to further map the structures and the geology in the subsurface;depths to magnetic sources were determined using spectral analysis. Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) of geo-electric method was interpreted to map the subsurface geology layers. The results of the integrated data were correlated with borehole yield data of the area for effective interpretation. Delineated lineaments from the azimuth, frequency plot showed dominant trends in the NE-SW and NNE-SSW directions. Radial average power spectrum revealed the depth to magnetic sources between 100 and 2500 m and the interpreted VES data characterized the area into three to four subsurface layers. In correlating the results with borehole yield data, the zones with high lineament density and low/negative magnetic anomaly were categorized as high groundwater potential zones while areas with low lineament density and high/positive magnetic anomaly as low groundwater potential zones. This study will guide efficiently subsequent groundwater drilling program in the study area.

Karyotypic Analysis of the Clipper Barb Enteromius callipterus (Boulenger 1907) from Tahoss Stream, Jos Plateau, Nigeria

The chromosomes of male and female individuals of Enteromius callipterus [1] were assessed in this study with the objective of determining the diploid chromosome and karyotype. The samples were obtained from the Tahoss River, Jos Plateau, and the assessment of the chromosomes was conducted using the conventional Giemsa staining technique. The study reveals that the male individual of E. callipterus has a diploid chromosome number of 2n = 50, the fundamental number of autosomal arms (NFa) of 82, and a karyotype formula of 2n = 14M + 4m + 32t. However, none of the spreads obtained for the female individuals were either equal to or below the common diploid chromosome number of 50 known for members of the genus. The two spreads presented here were of 2n equal to 54 and 58. Although sex dimorphism is rare within the genus, the present results suggest E. callipterus show sexual dimorphism at the chromosomal level.

Malaysian graduates are normally assumed to be lacking soft-skills and preparation for job-searching, thus affecting their decision-making skills. Thus, this study aims to develop a career decision-making competency model for effective career development among graduating students in Malaysia. The data collected from 1,655 graduating students were tested with confirmatory factor analysis to obtain three best-fit measurement models from the three variables. The findings according to the primary data reveal that there are significant relationships between self-knowledge and career decision-making, and occupational exploration as well as career decision-making. The result for testing invariance of a structural model for multi group analysis showed a validation model of self-knowledge, occupational exploration and career decision making. The findings from this study can be of great benefit to students, researchers, as well as the policy makers in the educational field.

The purpose of this study is to explore and examine employees＇ perceptions of recognition and appreciation among Telekom Malaysia （TM） employees in Melaka and the psychological influence it has on their job satisfaction, performance, productivity, and commitment towards the organizational goals. According to one of the laws of psychology which ＂says if you want someone to repeat a behavior, you should positively recognize the behavior immediately＂. Thus, it has been positively affirmed that every human being like to be recognized and appreciated because it is an innate aspiration. Conversely, even though there is nothing complex about recognition and appreciation, studies has found that these items consistently receive the lowest ratings from employees. Furthermore, research conducted over so many eras constantly and consistently discovered that people care about fair treatment, thus, recognition and appreciation of employees must be done appropriately and timely in order for the program to be effective and efficient and achieve its full objective and set goal of motivation. The constructs that will be used in this study will be operationalized using previously-validated and originally developed measures with little or no modifications where necessary to suit the present research context while the primary data of this research will be analyzed using AMOS software.

Background: Symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse (POP) impacts the sufferers’ quality of life negatively. There is a preference for a mechanical device in certain conditions though the definitive management of POP is surgical. Objectives: We conducted the study to evaluate the outcome of management of POP using mechanical devices. Methods: It was a prospective study. It took place in the gynecology unit of the Bowen University Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso between May 2014 and April 2019. We followed up with eligible patients who opted for pessary use for a median duration of 18 months (Range 12 - 84 months). We excluded those who refuse to participate in the study. Results: Of the 127 patients with symptomatic POP, seventy-five (59.1%) opted for the use of mechanical devices, and 70 successfully retained them four weeks after insertion.
