Photometric and Spectroscopic Study of Ten Low Mass Ratio Contact Binary Systems:Orbital Stability,O'Connell Effect and Infrared Calcium Line filling

Low mass ratio contact binary systems are more likely to have unstable orbits and potentially *** addition,such systems exhibit characteristics such as starspots and high energy emissions(UV)suggestive of chromospheric and magnetic *** curve modeling of ten contact binary systems is *** were found to be of extreme low mass ratio ranging from 0.122 to 0.24 and three were found to be potentially unstable and possible merger *** of the infrared calcium absorption lines is a marker of increased chromospheric *** use the available Large Sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope spectra along with matched standard spectra(broadened for rotation)to measure the excess filling of the central core depression flux of the two main infrared calcium absorption linesλ8542 andλ*** find that all reported contact binaries have excess filling of the core flux in the infrared calcium *** of the systems reported were also observed by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer mission and we find that all three have features of excess ultraviolet emissions further adding evidence for increased chromospheric activity in low mass ratio contact *** of both orbital stability and absorption line filling is dependent on the determination of geometric and absolute parameters from light curve *** an insignificant number of contact binary light curves exhibit the O’Connell effect,usually attributed to *** discuss the inclusion of starspots in light curve solutions and how they influence the geometric and absolute parameters.

Entangled photon pair generation in an integrated SiC platform

Entanglement plays a vital role in quantum information *** to its unique material properties,silicon carbide recently emerged as a promising candidate for the scalable implementation of advanced quantum information processing *** date,however,only entanglement of nuclear spins has been reported in silicon carbide,while an entangled photon source,whether it is based on bulk or chip-scale technologies,has remained ***,we report the demonstration of an entangled photon source in an integrated silicon carbide platform for the first ***,strongly correlated photon pairs are efficiently generated at the telecom C-band wavelength through implementing spontaneous four-wave mixing in a compact microring resonator in the 4h-silicon-carbide-on-insulator *** maximum coincidence-to-accidental ratio exceeds 600 at a pump power of 0.17 mW,corresponding to a pair generation rate of(9±1)×10^(3) pairs/***-time entanglement is created and verified for such signal-idler photon pairs,with the two-photon interference fringes exhibiting a visibility larger than 99%.The heralded single-photon properties are also measured,with the heralded g^((2))(0)on the order of 10^(−3),demonstrating the SiC platform as a prospective fully integrated,complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor compatible single-photon source for quantum applications.

Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)have emerged as a powerful tool in combustion simulations to replace memory-intensive tabulation of integrated chemical *** reaction mechanisms,however,present a challenge for standard ANN approaches as modeling multiple species typically suffers from inaccurate predictions on minor *** paper presents a novel ANN approach which can be applied on complex reaction mechanisms in tabular data form,and only involves training a single ANN for a complete reaction *** approach incorporates a network architecture that automatically conserves mass and employs a particular loss weighting based on species *** modifications are used to improve the overall ANN performance and individual prediction accuracies,especially for minor species mass *** validate its effectiveness,the approach is compared to standard ANNs in terms of performance and ANN *** distinct reaction mechanisms(h_(2),C_(7)h_(16),C_(12)h_(26),OME_(34))are used as a test cases,and results demonstrate that considerable improvements can be achieved by applying both modifications.

In a recent publication in Cell,hasegawa and colleagues reveal that cytotoxic CD4-positive cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CD4+CTLs)eliminate senescent fibroblasts with a surface expression of the immunologically important human leukocyte antigen class Il(hLA-)and the human cytomegalovirus glycoprotein B(hCMV-gB).1 This implies that a virome-immune cell interaction controls the fate of human skin cells that are linked to the aging process and associated diseases.

ON KARUSh-KUhN-TUCKER POINTS fOR A SMOOThING METhOD IN SEMI-INfINITE OPTIMIZATION

We study the smoothing method for the solution of generalized semi-infinite optimization problems from （O. Stein, G. Still： Solving semi-infinite optimization problems with interior point techniques, SIAM J. Control Optim., 42（2003）, pp. 769-788）. It is shown that Karush-Kuhn-Tucker points of the smoothed problems do not necessarily converge to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point of the original problem, as could be expected from results in （f. facchinei, h. Jiang, L. Qi： A smoothing method for mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints, Math. Program., 85（1999）, pp. 107-134）. Instead, they might merely converge to a fritz John point. We give, however, different additional assumptions which guarantee convergence to Karush-Kuhn：Tucker points.

Entangled-photons generation with quantum dots

Entanglement between particles is a crucial resource in quantum information processing, an important example of which is the exploitation of entangled photons in quantum communication protocols. Among the different available sources of entangled photons, semiconductor quantum dots （QDs） excel owing to their deterministic emission properties, potential for electrical injections, and direct compatibility with semiconductor manufacturing techniques. Despite the great promises, QD-based sources at＇e far from being ideal. In particular, such sources present several critical issues, which require the overcoming of challenges pertaining to spectral tunability, entanglement fidelity, photon indistinguishability and brightness. In this article, we will discuss the potential solutions to these problems and review the recent progress in the field.

Effects of vitamin supplementation on inflammatory markers and psychological wellbeing among distressed women:a randomized controlled trial

Background： Multivitamins are a popular supplement taken to promote physical and mental health. During periods of stress, they may have a protective role for health and wellbeing, although the current evidence of their efficacy is mixed. Objective： To determine whether multivitamin supplementation impacts psychological and inflammatory markers of women who are experiencing psychological distress. Design, setting, participants and interventions： An 8-week randomized controlled trial was conducted to assess changes in both psychological state and pro-inflammatory markers of patients receiving multivi- tamins or placebo. The sample comprised women who reported elevated psychological distress in the previous 4 weeks. Main outcome measures： Psychological state was assessed using Spielberger＇s State-Trait Personality Inventory to assess anxiety, curiosity, depression and anger. Pro-inflammatory markers comprised interleukin （IL）-113, IL-5, IL-6, turnout necrosis factor （TNf）-α and TNf-6. Results： Improvements across time were observed for all psychological measures and cytokines, except IL-5, but were independent of the active intervention. Only TNf-β demonstrated a significant differential change between groups over the course of the intervention, in favour of multivitamin supplementation （active group mean rank decreased from 11.1 to 7.1 ; placebo group mean rank decreased from 8.9 to 7.8）. Conclusion： The results suggest that administration of multivitamins was not effective in improving psychological stare. however, some evidence supported the positive impact of multivitamin supplementation on pro-inflammatory cytokine profiles of women currently experiencing stress.

Smoking is not associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

AIM： To analyze the relationship between smoking and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （NAfLD）. METhODS： This is a cross-sectional study of a healthy population, carried out in a check-up unit of a university hospital in Mexico City. We enrolled 933 subjects, 368 current smokers （cases） and 565 persons who had never smoked （controls）. Demographic, metabolic and biochemical variables were measured in the two groups. NAfLD was determined by ultrasound and metabolic syndrome according to ATPⅢ. RESULTS： A total of 548 men （205 cases and 343 controls） and 337 women （114 cases and 223 controls） were included in the analysis. Statistical differences between cases and controls were observed only in high blood pressure prevalence （6.6% vs 11.3%, P〈0.05; cases and controls respectively）, high-density lipoproteins （1.00±0.26 vs 1.06±0.28 mmol/L, P 〈 0.005）, triglycerides （2.18±1.49 vs 1.84±1.1 mmol/L, P〈0.001）, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate （11.3±9.3 vs 13.5±11.9 mm/h, P〈0.001）. No differences were observed in the prevalence of NAfLD （22.27% vs 29.68%, P = NS） and metabolic syndrome （41.69% vs 36.74%, P = NS）. Univariate analysis showed that smoking was not a risk factor for NAfLD （OR = 0.89, 95% CI 0.65-1.21）. CONCLUSION： No differences in NAfLD prevalence were observed between current smokers and nonsmokers, and furthermore, no differences were observed in heavy smokers （more than 20 packs/year）, indicating that there js no relationship between smoking and NAfLD.
