The state of the art in optical biosensing is focused on reaching high sensitivity at a single wavelength by using any type of optical *** common strategy,however,disregards the promising possibility of simultaneous measurements of a bioanalyte’s refractive index over a broadband spectral ***,we address this issue by introducing the approach of in-fibre multispectral optical sensing(IMOS).The operating principle relies on detecting changes in the transmission of a hollow-core microstructured optical fibre when a bioanalyte is streamed through it via liquid *** offers a unique opportunity to measure the refractive index at 42 wavelengths,with a sensitivity up to ~3000 nm per refractive index unit(RIU)and a figure of merit reaching 99 RIU^(−1) in the visible and near-infra-red spectral *** apply this technique to determine the concentration and refractive index dispersion for bovine serum albumin and show that the accuracy meets clinical needs.

AIM:To assess and compare the efficacy and safety of two triple regimes:A)metronidazole,amoxicillin and omeprazole, which is still widely used in Russia,and B)azithromycin, amoxicillin and omeprazole in healing active duodenal ulcer and *** eradication. METHODS:100 patients with active duodenal ulcer were included in the open,multicentre,randomized study with comparative *** were randomly assigned to one of the following one-week triple regimes:A) metronidazole 500 mg bid,amoxicillin I g bid and omeprazole 20 mg bid(OAM,n=50)and B)azithromycin 1 god for the first 3 days(total dose 3 g),amoxicillin 1 g bid and omeprazole 20 mg bid(OAA,n=50).Omeprazole 20 mg od was given after the eradication course as a monotherapy for three *** control endoscopy was performed 8 weeks after the *** was determined in the entry of the study and four weeks after the cessation of treatment by means of histology and CLO-test. RESULTS:97 patients completed the study according to the protocol(1 patient of the OAM group did not come to the control endoscopy,2 patients of the OAA group stopped the treatment because of mild allergic urticaria).Duodenal ulcers were healed in 48 patients of the OAM group(96 %, C190.5-100 %)and in 46 patients of the OAA group(92 %, CI 89.5-94.5 %)(p=ns).*** was eradicated in 15 out of 50 patients with OAM(30 %,CI 17-43 %)and in 36 out of 50 patients treated with OAA(72 %;CI 59-85 %) (Pvc\ the majority of patients, which is an essential argument to withdraw this regimen out of the national recommendations. Macrolide with amoxicillin are preferable to achieve higher eradication rates. Azithromycin (1 g od for the first 3 days) can be considered as a successful component of the triple PPI-based regimen.

Experimental evidences of occurrence of gaseous diatomic sulfur produced in the low temperature catalytic decomposition of hydrogen sulfide 2 H2S ←→ 2 H2 ＋ S2 （g） are summarized. The S2 molecule is suggested to be in the ground triplet state. Analysis of literature data allows concluding that the S2 metastable singlet state is realized in the thermal dissociation of hydrogen sulfide and solid sulfur. Arguments in favor of the hypothesis are been discussed.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide and the second leading cause of death among all cancer types. Deregulation of the networks of tissue-specific transcription factors(TFs) observed in HCC leads to profound changes in the hepatic transcriptional program that facilitates tumor progression. In addition, recent reports suggest that substantial aberrations in the production of TF isoforms occur in HCC. In vitro experiments have identified distinct isoform-specific regulatory functions and related biological effects of liver-specific TFs that are implicated in carcinogenesis, which may be relevant for tumor progression and clinical outcome. This study reviews available data on the expression of isoforms of liver-specific and ubiquitous TFs in the liver and HCC and their effects, including HNF4α, C/EBPs, p73 and TCF7 L2, and indicates that assessment of the ratio of isoforms and targeting specific TF variants may be beneficial for the prognosis and treatment of HCC.

The Relationship between Aggressiveness and Gender in Patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

Purpose: To examine the impact of gender and social gender on the level and typology of interictal aggressiveness in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. Material and Methods: 40 adult patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) and 86 healthy individuals were included. The qualitative and quantitative aggressiveness assess- ment was made with Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory. The gender role behavior was measured with Bem Sex Role Inventory. Results: Patients with TLE didn’t differ from healthy subjects on the total scores of motor and attitudinal hostility components, but scored higher on subscales “resentment” and “guilt”. The comparative gender analysis showed there were no phenomenological differences in people with TLE. Assault dominated in healthy male subjects, resentment—in healthy female subjects. The prevalence of feminine social gender type was significantly higher in people with TLE in comparison to healthy people (55% vs. 26%, p 0.01). In patients with TLE, the number of masculine traits positively correlated with indirect hostility subscale and attitudinal hostility component scores. In healthy subjects, the masculine traits positively correlated with assault.

Purpose:Even in years after recovery from moderate traumatic brain injury(moderate TBI),patients complain about residual cognitive impairment and *** hypothesized that non-linear and linear resting-state electroencephalography(rs EEG)features might also reflect neural underpinnings of these ***:We analyzed a 10-minute rs EEG in 77 moderate TBI-survivors and 151 healthy volunteers after cognitive and psychological *** rs EEG analysis included linear measures,such as power spectral density and peak alpha frequency,and non-linear parameters such as Higuchi fractal dimension,envelope frequency,and Hjorth ***:The patients with moderate TBI had higher scores for fatigue and sleepiness and lower scores for mood and life satisfaction than *** behavioral test for directed attention showed a smaller and non-significant between-group *** rs EEG patterns,moderate TBI-group had significantly higher deltaand theta-rhythm power,which correlated with higher sleepiness and fatigue *** higher beta and lower alpha power were associated with a higher attention level in moderate TBI ***-linear rs EEG features were significantly higher in moderate TBI patients than in healthy controls but correlated with sleepiness and fatigue scores in both controls and ***:The rs EEG patterns may reflect compensatory processes supporting directed attention and residual effect of moderate TBI causing subjective fatigue in patients even after full physiological recovery.
