Lu Xun in the Rhetoric of the Sino-Soviet Split： A View from Contemporary Russia

The historical role of the prominent Chinese writer, social activist and thinker Lu Xun （1881-1936）, is difficult to overestimate. His works influenced social change within China and became recognized internationally. For these and other reasons, he was of particular interest in the Soviet Union. Since 1932, his works have been published in numerous editions in Russian and have received a great deal of scholarly attention in the Soviet Union. Such unprecedented attention was initially based on the idea that he held similar revolutionary sentiments to those prevailing in the Soviet Union. Later, from the second half of the 1960s to the early 1970s, the ideological disagreements between the Soviet Union and China influenced the direction of Lu Xun studies in the Soviet Union. Soviet leader Khrushchev called for peaceful coexistence with the capitalist West, while Mao Zedong stressed the universal character of the proletarian revolution. Lu Xun was highly respected in both the USSR and China, and thus became an influential tool in this polemic. But, for Soviet scholars, this renewed focus on Lu Xun offered an opportunity to provide a new perspective on the writer＇s works. This paper analyzes how the Sino-Soviet split influenced Russian academics＇ positions on Lu Xun. The focus is on the three main points of contention in the ideological disagreements between the PRC and the USSR. First, Soviet critics focused on the psychological aspects and individualism in the Lu Xun＇s works. Second, a special focus on humanistic elements in the writer＇s ideas can be seen as a result of the Soviet disagreement with the Cultural Revolution＇s period. Third, by pointing to the internationalist aspects of Lu Xun＇s writings, Soviet scholars attempted to expose the Sinocentric political attitudes of the ruling circles in China.

Selection of phages and conditions for the safe phage therapy against Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections

The emergence of multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens forced us to consider the phage therapy as one of the possible alternative approaches to treatment. The purpose of this paper is to consider the conditions for the safe, long-term use of phage therapy against various infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We describe the selection of the most suitable phages, their most effective combinations and some approaches for the rapid recognition of phages unsuitable for use in therapy. The benefi ts and disadvantages of the various different approaches to the preparation of phage mixtures are considered, together with the specifi c conditions that are required for the safe application of phage therapy in general hospitals and the possibilities for the development of personalized phage therapy.

The deterioration of the sleeper support on the ballasted track begins with the accumulation of sleeper *** increased dynamic loading in the voided zone and the ballast contact conditions cause the accelerated growth of the settlements in the voided zones,which results in the appearance of local instabilities like ballast breakdown,white spots,subgrade defects,*** recent detection and quantification of the sleeper voids with track-side and onboard monitoring can help to avoid or delay the development of local *** present paper is devoted to the study of the dynamic behavior of railway track with sleeper voids in the ballast breakdown *** result of the experimental track-side measurements of rail acceleration and deflection is *** analysis shows the existence of the dynamic impact during wheel entry in the voided ***,the measured dynamic impact is subjected to the bias of the track-side measurement *** the mechanism of the impact and the measurement aspects are explained by using the one-beam model on viscoelastic *** void features in the dynamic behavior are analyzed for the purpose of track-side and onboard monitoring.A practical method of the void parameter quantification is proposed.

Spatial Resilience to Wildfires through the Optimal Deployment of Firefighting Resources:Impact of Topography on Initial Attack Effectiveness

Strongly affected by the escalating impacts of climate change,wildfires have been increasing in frequency and severity around the *** primary aim of this study was the development of specific territorial measures—estimating the optimal locations of firefighting resources—to enhance the spatial resilience to wildfires in the fire-prone region of Chalkidiki Prefecture in northern *** measures focus on the resistance to wildfires and the adaptation of strategies to wildfire management,based on the estimation of burn probability,including the effect of anthropogenic factors on fire *** proposed location schemes of firefighting resources such as vehicles consider both the susceptibility to fire and the influence of the topography on travel simulation,highlighting the impact of road slope on the initial firefighting *** spatial scheme,as well as the number of required firefighting forces is totally differentiated due to slope *** we ignore the topography effect,a minimum number of fire vehicles is required to achieve the maximization of coverage(99.2%of the entire study area)giving priority to the most susceptible regions(that is,employing 18 of 24 available fire vehicles).But when we adopt more realistic conditions that integrate the slope effect with travel time,the model finds an optimal solution that requires more resources(that is,employing all 24 available fire vehicles)to maximize the coverage of the most vulnerable regions within 27 *** process achieves 80%of total *** proposed methodology is characterized by a high degree of flexibility,and provides optimized solutions to decision makers,while considering key factors that greatly affect the effectiveness of the initial firefighting attack.

The study investigates the potential of UAV-based remote sensing technique for monitoring of Norway spruce health condition in the affected forest *** objectives are:(1)to test the applicability of UAV visible an near-infrared(VNIR)and geometrical data based on Z values of point dense cloud(PDC)raster to separate forest species and dead trees in the study area;(2)to explore the relationship between UAV VNIR data and individual spruce health indicators from field sampling;and(3)to explore the possibility of the qualitative classification of spruce health *** based on NDVI and PDC raster was successfully applied for separation of spruce and silver fir,and for identification of dead tree *** between common beech and fir was distinguished by the object-oriented image *** was able to identify the presence of key indicators of spruce health,such as mechanical damage on stems and stem resin exudation linked to honey fungus infestation,while stem damage by peeling was identified at the significance *** results contributed to improving separation of coniferous(spruce and fir)tree species based on VNIR and PDC raster UAV data,and newly demonstrated the potential of NDVI for qualitative classification of spruce *** proposed methodology can be applicable for monitoring of spruce health condition in the local forest sites.

Physiological and biochemical characteristic of Miscanthus×giganteus grown in heavy metal-oil sludge co-contaminated soil

The effect of oil sludge and zinc,present in soil both separately and as a mixture on the physiological and biochemical parameters of Miscanthus×giganteus plant was examined in a pot *** opposite effect of pollutants on the accumulation of plant biomass was established:in comparison with uncontaminated control the oil sludge increased,and Zn reduced the root and shoot *** sludge had an inhibitory effect on the plant photosynthetic apparatus,which intensified in the presence of *** specific antioxidant response of M.×giganteus to the presence of both pollutants was a marked increase in the activity of superoxide dismutase(mostly owing to oil sludge)and glutathione-S-transferase(mostly owing to zinc)in the *** participation of glutathione-S-transferase in the detoxification of both the organic and the inorganic pollutants was *** inhibited the activity of laccase-like oxidase,whereas oil sludge promoted laccase and ascorbate oxi-dase *** finding suggests that these enzymes play a part in the oxidative detox-ification of the organic *** both pollutants used jointly,Zn accumulation in the roots increased 6-fold,leading to increase in the efficiency of soil clean-up from the *** turn,Zn did not significantly affect the soil clean-up from oil *** study shows for the first time the effect of co-contamination of soil with oil sludge and Zn on the phys-iological and biochemical characteristics of the bioenergetic plant M.×*** data obtained are important for understanding the mechanisms of phytoremediation with this plant.

Novel screening test for celiac disease using peptide functionalised gold nanoparticles

AIM To develop a screening test for celiac disease based on the coating of gold nanoparticles with a peptide sequence derived from gliadin, the protein that triggers celiac ***20 nm gold nanoparticles were first coated with NeutrAvidin. A long chain Polyethylene glycol(PEG) linker containing Maleimide at the Ω-end and Biotin group at the α-end was used to ensure peptide coating to the gold nanoparticles. The maleimide group with the thiol(-SH) side chain reacted with the cysteine amino acid in the peptide sequence and the biotinylated and PEGylated peptide was added to the NeutrAvidin coated gold nanoparticles. The peptide coated gold nanoparticles were then converted into a serological assay. We used the peptide functionalised gold nanoparticle-based assay on thirty patient serum samples in a blinded assessment and compared our results with the previously run serologicaland pathological tests on these *** A stable colloidal suspension of peptide coated gold nanoparticles was obtained without any aggregation. An absorbance peak shift as well as color change was caused by the aggregation of gold nanoparticles following the addition of anti-gliadin antibody to peptide coated nanoparticles at levels associated with celiac disease. The developed assay has been shown to detect anti-gliadin antibody not only in quantitatively spiked samples but also in a small-scale study on real non-hemolytic celiac disease patient's *** The study demonstrates the potential of gold nanoparticlepeptide based approach to be adapted for developing a screening assay for celiac disease diagnosis. The assay could be a part of an exclusion based diagnostic strategy and prove particularly useful for testing high celiac disease risk populations.

After the 2016 New Zealand Kaikoura Earthquake,the absence of information about the state of buildings in Wellington proved to be a source of significant policy *** did not know what damages to expect and therefore how to react,and policies needed to be formulated without a clear quantification of the ***,without detailed knowledge of the existing buildings,it was difficult to assess what the available legal and regulatory tools can achieve and choose among *** describe the creation of a building inventory database for Wellington initiated by the *** database aims to assist the generation of research on the risks,impacts,and viable solutions for reducing future seismic risk in Wellington’s central business district(CBD).The database includes structural,economic,and market information on virtually every significant building in the *** primary purposes are:to collate and provide the best available information about the expected seismic performance of the existing building stock;to assess the impact of possible multiple building failures due to a seismic event;to describe a viable cost-effective path for seismic retrofitting;and to inform the design of a regulatory structure that can facilitate this resilience-building agenda.
