Identification of genes involved in the formation of soluble dietary fiber in winter rye grain and their expression in cultivars with different viscosities of wholemeal water extract

The grain of rye(Secale cereale L.) used for baking contains a large amount of non-starch polysaccharides,making it an excellent component of functional foods. But rye grain intended for alcohol production and forage use should have a reduced content of these polysaccharides. A comprehensive parameter that can predict the best field of application for winter rye grain is the viscosity of its wholemeal water ***, our understanding of the genetic background underlying this key trait and associated features of rye grain is poor. By analyzing six Russian winter rye cultivars, we identified the most contrasting forms and characterized the peculiarities of their water-soluble carbohydrates capable of influencing the viscosity of water extracts. Then, using phylogenetic and transcriptomic analyses, we identified in the rye genome many genes encoding putative glycosyltransferases and glycosylhydrolases responsible for the synthesis and degradation of arabinoxylans, mixed-linkage glucans, cellulose, and some other polysaccharides. We determined the dynamics of m RNA abundance for these genes at three stages of kernel development. Comparisons of gene expression levels in two contrasting cultivars revealed specific members of multigene families that may serve as promising targets for manipulating non-starch polysaccharide content in rye grain. High-viscosity cultivars were characterized by up-regulation of many glycosyltransferases involved in the biosynthesis of arabinoxylans and other cell-wall polysaccharides,whereas low-viscosity cultivars showed up-regulation of several genes encoding polysaccharidedegrading enzymes.

Enhanced electric-field induced strain in Eu3+ doped 0.67BiFeO3-0.33BaTiO3 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics

Lead-free ferroelectric ceramics,0.67Bi1-xEuxFeO3-0.33BaTiO3（BF-BT-xEu,x=0-0.02）,were prepared via a solid-state reaction,The effect of Eu3+doping on the microstructure,dielectric properties,ferroelectric properties,and electric-field-induced strain was *** X-ray diffraction（XRD） results indicate the presence of a mixed phase of tetragonal and rhombohedral at the morphotropic phase boundary（MPB）.Doping with an appropriate amount of Eu3+reduces the Fe3+content and decreases the leakage current in the binary system.A converse piezoelectric coefficient(d33*) of 392 pm/v is obtained at BF-BT-0.003Eu under an electric field of 60 kv/cm at room temperature,which has a Curie temperature（TC） of 414℃,The unipolar strain and d33* of BF-BT-0.003Eu ceramics increase to 0.438%and 730 pm/v at 125℃ The field-induced strain response of the BF-BT-0.003Eu ceramics is greater than that of 0.67BF-0.33BT,mainly due to its optimal grain size,reduction of leakage current,and coexistence of ferroelectric-relaxation phases,BF-BT-0.003Eu ceramic is a lead-free candidate for high-temperature actuator applications.

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites are currently considered the most promising next-generation photovoltaic ***,poor stability,arising from structural degradation under exposure to moisture,heat,and strong current,remains a critical challenge for their device *** ab initio nonadiabatic molecular dynamics,we demonstrate that methylamine fragments deriving from the dissociation of the methylammonium cation can undermine structural stability,produce deep hole traps,and decrease charge carrier lifetimes by 1-3 orders of *** stability and charge lifetime can be restored by methylamine passivation with chlorines,which withdraw electrons from the lone electron pair of methylamine and bring the trap levels down into the valence *** charge lifetime of the passivated system is even longer than that of the pristine *** simulations reveal the detailed microscopic mechanism underlying deterioration of perovskite performance due to molecular defects,and demonstrate an effective defect passivation strategy to obtain highly efficient and stable perovskite solar cells.

Efficient passivation of DY center in CH_(3)NH_(3)PbBr_(3) by chlorine:Quantum molecular dynamics

MAPbBr_(3)(MA=CH_(3)NH_(3)^(+))doping with bismuth increases electric conductivity,charge carrier density and photostability,reduces toxicity,and expands light ***,Bi doping shortens excited-state lifetimes due to formation of DY−charge recombination *** nonadiabatic molecular dynamics and time-domain density functional theory,we demonstrate that the DY−center forms a deep,highly localized hole trap,which accelerates nonradiative relaxation ten-fold and is responsible for 90%of carrier *** trapping occurs by coupling between the valence band and the trap state,facilitated by the Br atoms surrounding the Bi *** of the DY−center with chlorines heals the local geometry distortion,eliminates the trap state,and makes the carrier lifetimes longer than even in pristine MAPbBr_(3).The decreased charge recombination arises from reduced nonadiabatic coupling and shortened coherence time,due to diminished electron–hole overlap around the passivated *** study demonstrates accelerated nonradiative recombination in Bi-doped MAPbBr_(3),suggests a strategy for defect passivation and reduction of nonradiative energy losses,and provides atomistic insights into unusual defect properties of metal halide perovskites needed for rational design of high-performance perovskite solar cells and optoelectronic devices.

Semen microbiota and cytokines of healthy and infertile men

In this study,we determined the levels of cytokine secretory inhibitors and the microbiota biofilms of semen from healthy and infertile subjects.A total of 118 clinical bacterial isolates were isolated and *** secretory inhibitors were determined based on the difference in cytokine content between the control and experimental samples of cell-free supernatants of isolated *** formation was studied by determining the adhesion of microorganisms to the surface of a 96-well sterile plate and expressed as the optical density at 630 nm(OD_(630)).Cell-free supernatants of Staphylococcus contained higher levels of secretory inhibitor of cytokines in conditionally healthy than in infertile *** contrast,in infertile men,the ability to reduce cytokine levels was more characteristic of Enterococcus and *** Staphylococcus,Corynebacterium,and Enterococcus isolated from infertile subjects showed a greater ability to form biofilms than the same bacteria isolated from healthy *** research is needed on this topic,since it is necessary to determine the relationships between decreased secretory inhibitors of cytokines,production of biofilms by bacteria in semen,and *** is likely that the ability of microorganisms to change the concentration of cytokines and increase the level of biofilm formation in semen may be associated with minimal impairments of fertilizing ability,which are not detected using other methods.

Activation of anthracite combustion by copper acetate:mechanism,effect of particle size and introduction method

This paper addressed the efect of copper acetate on the combustion characteristics of anthracite depending on the fractional composition of fuel and additive introduction *** was impregnated with 5 wt%of Cu(CH_(3)COO)_(2)by mechanical mixing and incipient wetness *** anthracite samples of diferent fraction with dvides a higher dispersion of the additive and its uniform distribution in the *** ignition and combustion characteristics of the modifed anthracite samples were studied by thermal analysis and high-speed video recording of the processes in a combustion chamber(at heating medium temperature of 800℃).It was found that copper acetate increases anthracite reactivity,which was evidenced by decreased onset temperature of combustion(ΔT_(i))by 35-190℃and reduced ignition delay time(Δτ_(i))by 2.1-5.4 *** acetate reduces fuel underburning(on average by 70%)in the ash residue of anthracite and decreases the amount of CO and NO_(x)in gas-phase products(on average by 18.5%and 20.8%,respectively).The mechanism for activation of anthracite combustion by copper acetate is proposed.

Thermomechanical Energy Converters for Harvesting Thermal Energy:A Review

Thermal energy,i.e.,the electromagnetic energy in the infrared range that originates from the direct solar radiation,outgoing terrestrial radiation,waste heat from combustion of fuels,heat-emitting electrical devices,decay of radioactive isotopes,organic putrefaction and fermentation,human body heat,and so on,constitutes a huge energy flux circulating on the earth ***,most energy converters designed for the conversion of electromagnetic energy into electricity,such as photovoltaic cells,are mainly focused on using a narrow part of the solar energy lying in the visible spectrum,while thermomechanical engines that are fueled by heat in the broad energy range and then convert it into mechanical work or store it as mechanical deformation,are paid less *** the efficiency of thermomechanical devices is relatively low,they can be applied to collect waste heat which otherwise contributes to negative climate *** this review,operational principles of thermomechanical energy converters and a description of basic devices and materials that utilize thermal energy are *** addition to conventional macroscopic engines,based on thermoacoustic,thermomagnetic,thermoelastic,hydride heat converters,and shape memory alloys,the emergent devices are described which are classified as smart actuators,breathing frameworks,thermoacoustic micro-transducers,nanomechanical resonators,plasmomechanical systems,and optothermal *** performance of the different types of thermomechanical energy converters is described and compared.
