AIM: To analyze hepatic, mesenteric and mucosal microcirculation and leukocyte-endothelium interaction (LEI) in a rat model with liver ***: Hepatic cirrhosis was induced in Wistar rats by gavage with carbon tetrachloride, and intravital videomicroscopy was performed in liver, mesentery and small intestine mucosa. Special emphasis is given on microcirculatory and morphometric changes during cirrhotic portal ***: LEI was influenced significantly in the cirrhotic liver but not in the gut. Blood flow measurement showed significant differences among liver, main mesenteric vessels and the mucosa. The results of our study indicate that liver cirrhosis leads to alterations in hepatic and mesenteric blood flow but not in mucosal blood ***: The enhanced inflammatory response in hepatic microvessels may be caused by a decrease of antithrombin Ⅲ levels and could be responsible for disturbances of organ pathology.

Background Endomyocardial biopsy （EMB） is an important tool when patients with inflammatoric cardiomyopathy （DCMi） are evaluated. We aimed to assess the clinical profile of elderly patients with DCMi on EMB. Methods Retrospective study of all consecutive patients hospitalized from January 2007 to December 2011 with clinical suspicion of DCMi undergoing EMB. Patients with evidence of DCMi on EMB （Group 1 〉 70 years, n = 85; Group 3 〈 70 years; n = 418） were compared to patients of the same age group without evi- dence of DCMi on EMB （Group 2 〉 70 years, n = 45; Group 4 〈 70 years; n = 147）. Results Among 24,275 patients treated at our institu- tion during the study period, 695 had clinical suspicion of DCMi and underwent EMB; 503 （2.1%） patients had DCMi on EMB. There were more male patients in Group 1, mean age was 74 ~ 2.8 years, mean ejection fraction was 38% q- 14%. On presentation, signs of hemody- namic compromise （NYHA functional class IIUIV, low cardiac output/index, and low cardiac power index） were more frequent in Group 1. EMB revealed viral genome in 78% of the patients, parvovirus B 19 （PVB） was frequently encountered in both age groups （Group 1： 69.4% vs. Group 2： 59.6%）; detection of more than one viral genome was more frequent in Group 1 （21.2% vs. 11.2%; P = 0.02） whereas the extent of immune response was significantly lower in individuals with advanced age. Conclusions In patients 〉 70 years with DCMi on EMB signs of hemodynamic compromise, detection of multiple viral genomes together with an overall lower extent of immune response were more frequently observed.

Lead free 0.94(Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5))TiO_(3)-0.06BaTiO_(3)ceramics were prepared by conventional solid-state mixed oxide route with the A-site stoichiometry modified to incorporate donor-doping(through Bi-excess)and acceptor-doping(through Na-excess).Both stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric ceramics exhibited a single perovskite phase with pseudo-cubic symmetry.A significant improvement in the dielectric properties was observed in Bi-excess compositions and a deterioration in the dielectric properties was observed in Na-excess *** spectroscopy was utilized to analyze the effects of A-site nonstoichiometry on conduction *** with Bi-excess resulted in an electrically homogeneous microstructure with an increase in resistivity by3-4 orders of magnitude and an associated activation energy of 1.57 eV which was close to half of the optical *** contrast,an electrically heterogeneous microstructure was observed in both the stoichiometric and Na-excess *** addition,the Na-excess compositions exhibited low resistivities(ρ-10^(3)Ω-cm)with characteristic peaks in the impedance data comparable to the recent observations of oxide ion conduction in(Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5))TiO_(3).Long term annealing studies were also conducted at 800℃to identify changes in crystal structure and electrical *** results of this study demonstrates that the dielectric and electrical properties of 0.94(Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5))TiO_(3)-0.06BaTiO_(3)ceramics are very sensitive to Bi/Na stoichiometry.

Resistance in insect pests against the endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis （Berliner）（Bt） is a major threat to the usefulness of this biopesticide, both used as traditional formulations and in transgenic crops. A crucial requirement for the development of successful resistance management strategies is a molecular understanding of the nature and inheritance of resistance mechanisms. This information can be used to design management strategies that will delay or counteract Bt resistance. The best known Bt resistance mechanism is inactivation of brush border membrane receptors. This type of resistance has a largely recessive mode of inheritance, which has enabled the design of resistance management approaches involving high dose and refuge strategies. Recent observations suggest that other resistance mechanisms are possible, including a mechanism that sequesters the toxin in the gut lumen through inducible immune reactions. The elevated immune status associated with tolerance to the toxin can be transmitted to subsequent generations by a maternal effect, which has implications for resistance management in the field. The high dose/refuge strategy may not be appropriate for the management of these alternative resistance mechanisms and other strategies have to be developed if inducible dominant resistance or tolerance mechanisms occur frequently in the field.

Chronic hemodynamic adaptations induced by resistance training with and without blood flow restriction in adults:A systematic review and meta-analysis

The purposes of this systematic review and meta-analysis of peer-reviewed literature were to examine the chronic effects of resistance training with blood flow restriction(RT-BFR)on hemodynamics,and to compare these adaptations to those induced by traditional resistance training(TRT)programs in adults(PROSPERO:Registry:CRD42022339510).A literature search was conducted across PubMed,Sports Discus,Scielo,and Web of Science *** independent reviewers extracted study characteristics and blood pressure *** of bias(The Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomized controlled trials[RoB-2]),and the certainty of the evidence(Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development,and Evaluation[GRADE])were used.A total of eight studies met the inclusion criteria for systolic(SBP),diastolic(DBP),and mean arterial pressure(MAP).Regarding the comparison of RT-BFR ***-exercise,no significant differences favoring the exercise group were observed(p>0.05).However,when compared to TRT,RT-BFR elicited additional improvements on DBP(-3.35;95%CI-6.00 to-0.71;I^(2)=14%;z=-2.48,p=0.01),and on MAP(-3.96;95%CI-7.94 to 0.02;I^(2)=43%;z=-1.95,p=0.05).Results indicate that RT-BFR may elicit a decrease in DBP in comparison with TRT,but the lack of data addressing this topic makes any conclusion *** research on this topic is warranted.

A basic method to calculate van der Waals dispersion force distributions for submicron superquadric particles in particle-wall systems is presented. The force distribution is achieved by rotating particles through a large number of arbitrary spatial orientations, each time keeping constant the contact distance to the wall surface while calculating the dispersion force. To accomplish this, the use of 2D particle shape suffices, that is, through using an inter-dimensional function, which has been determined previously. A further development of the method within digital image analysis may lead to possible applications to forecasting the macroscopic properties of particle systems, for example, flowability, agglomeration behavior or dispersibility. For small ranges of superquadric particle shapes, each with a different size, the way from determining the inter-dimensional function up to applying image analysis is shown in an example.

Resistant hypertension(RH) has a prevalence of around 12% and is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, progression to end-stage renal disease, and even mortality. In 2017, the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association released updated guidelines that detail steps to ensure proper diagnosis of RH, including the exclusion of *** modifications, such as low salt diet and physical exercise, remain at the forefront of optimizing blood pressure control. Secondary causes of RH also need to be investigated, including screening for obstructive sleep apnea. Notably, the guidelines demonstrate a major change in medication management recommendations to include mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists. In addition to advances in medication optimization, there are several device-based therapies that have been showing efficacy in the treatment of RH. Renal denervation therapy has struggled to show efficacy for blood pressure control, but with a redesigned catheter device, it is once again being tested in clinical trials. Carotid baroreceptor activation therapy(BAT) via an implantable pulse generator has been shown to be effective in lowering blood pressure both acutely and in longterm follow up data, but there is some concern about the safety profile. Both a second-generation pulse generator and an endovascular implant are being tested in new clinical trials with hopes for improved safety profiles while maintaining therapeutic efficacy. Both renal denervation and carotid BAT need continued study before widespread clinical implementation. Central arteriovenous anastomosis has emerged as another possible therapy and is being actively explored. The ongoing pursuit of blood pressure control is a vital part of minimizing adverse patient outcomes. ~ In the majority of countries, there is a shortage of donor corneas for corneal transplantations. This study investigated the impact of organ transplantation scandals on corneal donation rate at the University Hospital T/ibingen. Each deceased patient was considered as a potential corneal donor. An ophthalmic resident handled with stable methods of procedures the corneal donor procurement from 2009 to 2015. The rates of corneal donation were examined and analyzed. Among the 5712 hospital deaths, consent for corneal donation was obtained in 711 cases. The mean annual corneal donation rate was 12.4%. Since 2009, the donation rate per year could be increased with exception of 2013 and 2015. In the end of 2012 and 2014 two huge organ donation scandals were known in Germany. In the following years 2013 and 2015 corneal donation rate decreased significantly （P=0.0181 and P=0.0006）. We concluded that transplantation scandals have a significant impact on corneal donation rate. Improving professional＇s performance through full transparency and honesty is very important to earn trust of potential donors and their families.

Heusler compounds attract a great deal of attention from researchers thanks to a wealth of interesting properties,among which is *** we perform an extensive study of the superconducting and elastic properties of the cubic(full-)Heusler family using a mixture of ab initio methods,as well as interpretable and predictive machine-learning *** analyzing the statistical distributions of these properties and comparing them to anti-perovskites,we recognize universal behaviors that should be common to all conventional superconductors while others turn out to be specific to the material *** total,we discover a total of eight hypothetical materials with critical temperatures above 10 K to be compared with the current record of T_(c)=4.7 K in this ***,we expect most of these materials to be highly ductile,making them potential candidates for the manufacture of wires and tapes for superconducting magnets.
