The joining of different light metals through friction stir welding(FSW)is gaining interest as a method to decrease weight and improve fuel ***,to ensure durability,these welded metals may require surface treatments to protect against corrosion or *** study presents a novel approach for the simultaneous delivery of two distinct corrosion inhibitors to Ti-Mg dissimilar PEO treated joints on *** research focuses on the synthesis,characterization,and application of cerium@polystyrene(Ce@PS)nanocontainers,which are loaded with 8-hydroxyquinoline(8-HQ)to enhance corrosion *** synthesis involves several key steps,including the formation of a cerium-based outer layer around polystyrene nanospheres,the selective removal of the polystyrene core to create a porous structure,and the subsequent loading of the 8-HQ *** and compositional analyses,conducted using scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),confirmed the successful incorporation of 8-HQ within the ***,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)provided detailed information about the chemical composition of the organic materials throughout the synthesis *** decomposition analysis verified the successful fabrication and stability of the dual-shell *** tests on Ti-Mg joints treated with plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)coatings and loaded nanocontainers demonstrated sig-nificantly improved corrosion resistance compared to untreated *** research highlights the potential of dual-shell nanocontainers,containing both organic and inorganic inhibitors,to offer prolonged corrosion protection,particularly against galvanic corrosion in dissimilar *** findings suggest that these synthesized nanocontainers hold promise for various industrial applications,particularly in the context of friction stir welded(FSW)Ti-Mg dissimilar joints,providing valuable

Numerical study on 3D effect and practical design in shield tunneling

In practice,different design methods are used in solving geotechnical problems depending on the type of issue such as the tunneling,braced excavation,or bearing capacity of a foundation,that is,the basic mechanism of the design method differs depending on the problems even for the same ground.A numerical analysis using the finite element method has recently become familiar owing to an improved computing performance;however,it is not widely used in the design of geotechnical problems including tunnel excavation owing to the reliability of the constitutive model of the ground *** a constitutive model of soils can properly express the properties of the ground material,a numerical analysis will play a vital role in solving the geotechnical *** this paper,the current state of a numerical analysis and its applicability in tunnel design are ***,the simulation of the ground behavior during tunnel excavation is carried out using sandy and clay ground parameters for shallow and deep tunnel *** paper is mainly focused on the effects of tunnel excavation under three-dimensional(3D)conditions,as well as the current design ***-linear 2D and 3D finite element analyses have been conducted,in which the elastoplastic sub-loading tij model has been used as a constitutive model of the *** performance and acceptability of the constitutive model have already been proven to reproduce the results of various model tests on different geotechnical problems such as the tunneling,braced excavation,and bearing capacity of a foundation,as well as the measured field *** was found that a 2D finite element analysis where the rate of stress release is considered,can be used for the prediction of the ground deformation and surface settlement;however,it does not provide rational information in the prediction of tunnel lining forces such as the stress,bending moment,and axial force,which emphasize the necessity of a 3D analysis with a proper cons

The extremely low friction and minimal wear in natural synovial joints appear to be established by effective lubrication mechanisms based on appropriate combination of articular cartilage and synovial *** complex structure of cartilage composed of collagen and proteoglycan with high water content contributes to high load-carrying capacity as biphasic materials and the various constituents of synovial fluid play important roles in various lubrication ***,the detailed differences in functions of the intact and damaged cartilage tissues,and the interaction or synergistic action of synovia constituents with articular cartilage have not yet been *** this study,to examine the roles of synovia constituents and the importance of cartilage surface conditions,the changes in friction were observed in the reciprocating tests of intact and damaged articular cartilage specimens against glass plate lubricated with lubricants containing phospholipid,protein and/or hyaluronic acid as main constituents in synovial *** effectiveness of lubricant constituents and the influence of cartilage surface conditions on friction are *** addition,the protectiveness by synovia constituents for intact articular cartilage surfaces is evaluated.

The fibre-reinforced structure in synovial articular cartilage plays an important role in enhancing the fluid load support in the biphasic lubrication ***(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)hydrogel is a potential biomimetic articular cartilage *** this study,PVA hydrogel was reinforced with PVA fibres to improve its frictional *** computational analysis,the position of the PVA fibre layer was examined with a migrating contact condition to reduce the friction *** improve the fibre reinforcement,a method for fibre placement was developed to retain the initial strain of the fibre in the hydrogel *** experimental results showed that the fibre-reinforced PVA hydrogel with a surface fibre layer had a low friction coefficient of 0.031 in pure *** fibre-reinforced PVA hydrogel successfully reduced friction coefficient.

In the present study,the distribution of Ag in the coating formed on Mg-Ag alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)and its ionic release kinetics when exposed to a 0.9 wt.%Na Cl solution at 37℃have been *** metallic Ag and Ag oxide particles with~5 to~40 nm in diameters were observed in the PEO ***,an Ag-enriched layer of~20 nm in thickness at the substrate/coating interface was also *** PEO coating on the Mg-Ag alloy not only increases its corrosion resistance with the corrosion current density decreasing by up to 3 orders of magnitude from 8.04×10^(-3)to 4.03×10^(-6)A/cm^(2),but also controls the release of Ag+to the level that is sufficient for anti-infective efficacy without causing cytotoxicity to mammal cells.

The soft hydrogel material is expected for a candidate material as biomimetic artificial cartilage with synergisticfunctionalities of adaptive multimode *** boundary lubrication mode of hydrogel material,the biphasiclubrication mechanism cooperatively exerts its *** hydrodynamic lubrication mode,it is preferable that thelubricating surfaces be impermeable to trap the fluid pressure in contact surfaces,whereas the actual biphasic materiallike a hydrogel is a permeable material with surface *** is indicated that the interstitial fluid pressurisation inthe permeable biphasic material can contribute to significant fluid load support under lower sliding speed ***,the authors examined how the contrary fluid pressure effect appears in the transition from the boundarylubrication mode to soft elastohydrodynamic lubrication *** the experiment,a small pressure sensor was utilisedto measure the in-situ fluid pressure in sliding *** the experimental condition of this study wasselective,the result showed a possibility of the negative effect of the biphasic surface,in which the permeable surfacediminished the hydrodynamic fluid *** means that one should manage and enhance the biphasic lubricationabilities in wide operation range when the hydrogel material was used as a load bearing material.

A New Electron Charge Distribution Function of Electron

Here we derive a new charge distribution function for an electron by using as an equation of motion a segment of charge whose self energy interaction is due to electric field potential. Our method is based on the consideration that a charged distribution function should be represented as an eigenfunction of electron mass energy. We compare our electron charge distribution function to that of Weinberg’s η(r) and our charged electron radius to that obtained by Kim.

Describing a Baryon as a Meson Pair

We propose a new description of a baryon as a pair of mesons. This description is an extension of the previously proposed description of a nucleon as a pair of pions. The purpose of this article is to show the following two possibilities. The first one is that it shows the qualitative explanation to support our description of a nucleon as a pair of pions and the second one is that it gives the systematic way of estimation of baryon mass not only for light baryons but also for heavy baryons (charm baryons and bottom baryons). Each isospin group is constructed of both baryons and antibaryons. This way of construction is consistent with that of mesons. The results obtained are listed in tables (Tables 1-9). This shows that the generalized Gell-Mann-Nishijima relation equation holds under the condition that the baryon number is 0 and that the obtained masses are fairly good, even for heavy baryons. Our description also yields several examples of baryon decay modes.
