Formation of Gel-Like Shear-Induced Structure with Dosing of Dilute Surfactant Solution and Its Effect on Turbulent Channel Flow

A shear-induced structure (SIS) is formed under appropriate concentration and shear conditions in a surfactant micellar solution. In this study, we performed experiments of surfactant solution dosing in a fully developed two-dimensional turbulent channel flow from a sintered metallic wire mesh plate attached to a side wall. We investigated the behavior of the solution under the elongation during its passing through the wire mesh and under the strong shear due to the channel flow. It was confirmed that the dosed solution containing a laser dye was visualized by a laser sheet, and the accumulated gel from the wire mesh formed a layer and developed with time. Consequently, on dosing the dilute surfactant solution from the wire mesh, a gel-like SIS layer was formed, which majorly covered the wire mesh plate. The gel-like SIS layer on the wire mesh plate acted as a sticky solid and restricted the flow in the channel. This layer continued to grow while dosing, owing to which the pressure drop of the channel flow significantly increased. The gel-like SIS layer grew rapidly even in the turbulent flow and reached the equilibrium thickness. After the termination of the dosing, the gel layer collapsed gradually. In addition, the thickness of the gel-like SIS layer (indicating the strength indirectly) strongly depended on the surfactant concentration and the elongation rate in the wire mesh.

ISSR标记技术因具有很高的多肽性而被广泛应用于遗传多样性研究。进行菜用大豆品种多样性研究将有助于育种家进行杂交亲本的合理选配。采用ISSR标记技术对37个菜用大豆品种（系）和13个普通大豆品种（系）进行了分类研究。结果表明：50个ISSR引物中有11个引物没有多肽性，其他39个引物共产生132条谱带，其中81条多肽性谱带，占61．4％。引物扩增的谱带数在1—7条之间，大小为830—3530bp．每个引物平均扩增的谱带数和多肽性带数分别为3．3和2．1。聚类分析结果表明，可将供试的50个品种划分为3个类组，扁茎大豆Taikadaizu单独一组，7个普通大豆（多数为中国选育）划归为B组，C组由日本菜用大豆和4个普通大豆组成。C组还可以划分成若干亚组，同一亚组的品种具有相似的性状，比如有一亚组的品种均是褐脐、茶色种皮、白花、不易炸荚。系选的品种和原始品种在分类图中也显示出其密切的亲缘关系。基于ISSR标记的分类可以反映菜用大豆的遗传关系，菜用大豆和普通大豆之间存在遗传多样性，合理保存菜用大豆种质将有助于未来大豆品质改良计划。

Study on the Shear Effect on Dye Patches Diffused in Wall-Bounded Shear Flow

This paper focuses on the high intensity filaments (dye patches) embedded in dye plumes in a wall-bounded shear flow, to investigate the shear effect on the dye patch distribution. Motivated by the widely concerned inverse estimation of the source location, we try extracting useful information to know the source location from down-stream dye patches. Accordingly, we changed the dye injection location at different distances from the wall and made observations at different downstream (diffusion) distances from the source. The orientation angle and roundness of dye patches were concerned to examine the shear effect and dye patch characteristics. To capture the dye plume images, a planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technique was used. The orientation and roundness of each dye patch were calculated by least-square fitting. The statistics of both the orientation angle and the roundness were compared with those in homogeneous turbulent cases to reveal the shear effect. Different from uniformly-orientated dye patches in the homogeneous flow, larger occurrence probabilities with positive orientation angles of dye patches are observed in wall-bounded shear flow, in particular, when the injection location is near the wall. As with information extraction for the inverse estimation of source location, it is found that the orientation distribution of dye patches is independent of the diffusion distance, but related with the injection location from the wall. While for the homogeneous flow cases, a strong dependence on the diffusion distance is observed in the orientation distribution profiles. As for the roundness, similar aspects are found regarding the dependencies on the injection location in shear flow and on diffusion distance in homogeneous flow.

富蕴断裂带位于阿尔泰山南侧，横切阿尔泰山褶皱带南缘及额尔齐斯深断裂，是一条呈北北西向展布的右旋走滑断裂带。沿断裂带发育一系列错断水系、错断冲积扇、挤压脊、走滑拉分盆地等反映右旋走滑活动的典型构造地貌标志。本研究在高分辨率遥感图像和数字高程模型分析的基础上，结合野外实地构造地貌测量，对沿富蕴断裂带发育的系统错断水系特征进行了详细分析研究。研究结果表明，沿富蕴断裂带发育不同级别的错断水系，大致可划分为6级：1931年地震形成的冲沟；90m左右断距的错断水系；150m左右断距的错断水系；500m左右断距的错断水系；1500m左右断距的错断水系；2000m以上断距的错断水系。同时，结合研究区及邻区的第四纪冰川资料讨论了不同级别水系可能形成时间：恰尔沟三级支流可能形成时间为末次冰期Ⅲ阶段末期，约20ka；恰尔沟二级支流可能形成时间为末次冰期Ⅰ阶段末期，约120ka；恰尔沟一级支流可能形成于该地区冰川广泛消融的倒数第2次冰期的Ⅱ阶段末期，约为250ka；恰尔沟、水磨沟、白杨沟、乌铁布拉克河、卡布尔特河等可能形成于倒数第3次冰期Ⅱ阶段末期，约为360ka。最后，我们估算出富蕴断裂带晚第四纪以来的平均右旋走滑速率为1．46—4．99mm／a。

In this paper, we present machine learning algorithms and systems for similar video retrieval. Here, the query is itself a video. For the similarity measurement, exemplars, or representative frames in each video, are extracted by unsupervised learning. For this learning, we chose the order-aware competitive learning. After obtaining a set of exemplars for each video, the similarity is computed. Because the numbers and positions of the exemplars are different in each video, we use a similarity computing method called M-distance, which generalizes existing global and local alignment methods using followers to the exemplars. To represent each frame in the video, this paper emphasizes the Frame Signature of the ISO/IEC standard so that the total system, along with its graphical user interface, becomes practical. Experiments on the detection of inserted plagiaristic scenes showed excellent precision-recall curves, with precision values very close to 1. Thus, the proposed system can work as a plagiarism detector for videos. In addition, this method can be regarded as the structuring of unstructured data via numerical labeling by exemplars. Finally, further sophistication of this labeling is discussed.

Sudden Noise Reduction Based on GMM with Noise Power Estimation

This paper describes a method for reducing sudden noise using noise detection and classification methods, and noise power estimation. Sudden noise detection and classification have been dealt with in our previous study. In this paper, GMM-based noise reduction is performed using the detection and classification results. As a result of classification, we can determine the kind of noise we are dealing with, but the power is unknown. In this paper, this problem is solved by combining an estimation of noise power with the noise reduction method. In our experiments, the proposed method achieved good performance for recognition of utterances overlapped by sudden noises.

The E-W to WNW-ESE striking Kunlun Fault Zone,extending about 1600 km,is one of the large strike-slip faults in the northern Tibet,*** a major strike-slip fault,it plays an important role on the extrusion of Tibet Plateau in accommodating northeastward shortening caused by the India-Asia ***,the time of initiation left-lateral faulting of the Kunlun Fault Zone is still largely debated,ranging from the Middle to Late Triassic(240-200 Ma) to early Quaternary(2 Ma).We document displaced basement rocks and geomorphic features along the Kunlun Fault Zone,based on tectono-geomorphic interpretation of satellite remote sensing images and field geologic and geomorphic *** results show that the largest cumulative offset of basement rocks is likely to be 100±20 ***,a series of pull-apart basins(Kusai,Xiugou and Tuosu lake basins) and pressure ridges(East Deshuiwai and Maji Snow Mountains),each 45-70 km long and～8-12 km wide,are developed along the Kunlun Fault Zone,which resulted from long-term tectono-geomorphic growth since the Late Miocene or Early *** evidence indicates that the Kunlun Fault Zone had a long-term slip rate of ca.10 mm/yr during the late *** slip rate is similar to that shown by present-day GPS measurements. Thus,we estimate that the Kunlun Fault Zone probably began left-lateral faulting at 10±2 Ma based on a total displacement of 100±20 km,and assuming a constant long-term slip rate of ca.10 mm/yr for several millions of *** this timing constraint on initiation of left-lateral faulting of the Kunlun Fault Zone is consistent with widespread tectonic deformation which occurred in the Tibetan Plateau.

Identification of cellular genes showing differential expression associated with hepatitis B virus infection

AIM: To investigate the impact of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on cellular gene expression, by conducting both in vitro and in vivo studies. METHODS: Knockdown of HBV was targeted by stable expression of short hairpin RNA (shRNA) in huH-1 cells. Cellular gene expression was compared using a human 30K cDNA microarray in the cells and quantified by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) (qRT-PCR) in the cells, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and surrounding non-cancerous liver tissues (SL). RESULTS: The expressions of HBsAg and HBx protein were markedly suppressed in the cells and in HBx transgenic mouse liver, respectively, after introduction of shRNA. Of the 30K genes studied, 135 and 103 genes were identified as being down- and up-regulated, respectively, by at least twofold in the knockdown cells. Functional annotation revealed that 85 and 62 genes were classified into four up-regulated and five down-regulated functional categories, respectively. When gene expression levels were compared between HCC and SL, eight candidate genes that were confirmed to be up- or down-regulated in the knockdown cells by both microarray and qRT-PCR analyses were not expressed as expected from HBV reduction in HCC, but had similar expression patterns in HBV- and hepatitis C virus-associated cases. In contrast, among the eight genes, only APM2 was constantly repressed in HBV non-associated tissues irrespective of HCC or SL. CONCLUSION: The signature of cellular gene expression should provide new information regarding the pathophysiological mechanisms of persistent hepatitis and hepatocarcinogenesis that are associated with HBV infection.

Although acute appendicitis is a common disease, retroperitoneal abscesses are rarely observed. Here, we report a case consisting of a psoas abscess and cutaneous fistula caused by appendicitis. The patient was a 56-year-old male who was introduced to our institution due to an intractable right psoas abscess. Imaging tests had been performed over the previous 3 years; however, clinicians could not find the origin of the abscess and failed to resolve the problem. A successful operation was performed via a laparoscopic approach, and 17 mo have passed without recurrence. The advantage of laparoscopic surgery is well understood in cases of appendicitis with abscesses. However, the indication for laparoscopic approach is not clear for retroperitoneal abscesses. From our experience, we can conclude that appendicitis with retroperitonealabscesses can be managed and treated using a laparoscopic approach.
