Physico-mechanical Properties of Composite Briquettes from Corncob and Rice Husk

Densification of agricultural residues into briquettes as the alternative renewable feedstock can improve their physico-mechanical and storage properties as solid *** paper presents the physico-mechanical properties of the composite briquettes made from corncob and rice *** samples of corncob and rice husk were collected,sorted and pulverised into fines of 0.25,1.00 and 1.75 mm particle *** fines were blended at mixing ratios of 80꞉20,70꞉30,60꞉40,and 50꞉50,bonded with 5%starch on weight percentage basis and compressed at compaction pressures of 25,50,and 65 kPa to produce the briquette *** briquette made from 80:20 ratio of corncob to rice husk,0.25 mm particle size and 65 kPa pressure exhibited the highest compressive strength of 111 kN/m2 and the least of 39 kN/m^(2) from briquette with 50꞉50 ratio of corncob to rice husk,1.75 mm particle size and 25 kPa *** briquette made from 50꞉50 ratio of corncob to rice husk,0.25 mm particle size and 65 kPa pressure had the highest water resistance capacity,and the least from briquette of 80꞉20 ratio of corncob to rice husk,1.75 mm particle size and 25 kPa *** resulting physico-mechanical qualities of the produced corncob and rice husk briquettes suggested that they could be used as the solid fuels for domestic and industrial applications.

Evaluation of Some Weibull Parameter Estimation Methods for Characterizing Stem Diameter Distribution in a Tropical Mixed Forest of Southern Nigeria

Stem diameter distribution information is useful in forest management planning. Weibull function is flexible, and has been used in characterising diameter distributions, especially in single-species planted stands, the world over. We evaluated some Weibull parameter estimation methods for stem diameter characterisation in （oban） multi-species Forest in southern Nigeria. Four study sites （Aking, Ekang, Erokut and Ekuri） were selected. Four 2 km-long transects situated at 600 m apart were laid in each location. Five 50m x 50m plots were alternately laid along each transect at 400 m apart （20 plots/location） using systematic sampling technique. Tree growth variables： diameter at breast height （Dbh）, diameters at the base, middle and merchantable limit, total height, merchantable height, stem straightness, crown length and crown diameter were measured on all trees 〉 10 cm to compute model response variables such as mean diameters, basal area and stem volume. Weibull parameters estimation methods used were： moment-based, percentile-based, hybrid and maximum-likelihood （ML）. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, regression models and ANoVA at α0.05. Percentile-based method was the best for Weibull [location （a）, scale （b） and shape （c）] parameters estimations with mLogL = 116.66±21.89, while hybrid method was least-suitable （mLogL = 690.14±128.81） for Weibull parameters estimations. Quadratic mean diameter （Dq） was the only suitable predictor of Weibull parameters in oban Forest.

We propose a mathematical model of the coronavirus disease 2019(CoVID-19)to investigate the transmission and control mechanism of the disease in the community of *** stability theory of differential equations,the qualitative behavior of model is *** pandemic indicator represented by basic reproductive number R0 is obtained from the largest eigenvalue of the next-generation *** as well as global asymptotic stability conditions for the disease-free and pandemic equilibrium are obtained which determines the conditions to stabilize the exponential spread of the ***,we examined this model by using Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative operator and existence criteria of solution for the operator is *** consider the data of reported infection cases from April 1,2020,till April 30,2020,and parameterized the *** have used one of the reliable and efficient method known as iterative Laplace transform to obtain numerical *** impacts of various biological parameters on transmission dynamics of CoVID-19 is *** results are based on different values of the fractional parameter and serve as a control parameter to identify the significant strategies for the control of the *** the end,the obtained results are demonstrated graphically to justify our theoretical findings.

Parasitic plants are challenging to agricultural crops and forestry development,which are sources of major revenues in several countries,including ***,parasitic plants are important to human society as they have an abundance of bioactive compounds with pharmacological ***,it becomes expedient to know the benefits of these plants and potential means of *** review discusses four selected parasitic plants in Nigeria,namely Viscum album,Striga hermonthica,Tapinanthus bangwensis and Cuscuta *** information about their pharmacological relevance and biocontrol was obtained from credible databases,including the National Library of Medicine,SCoPUS,and Google *** review showed that all four plants have been extensively studied for their antioxidant and antitumor ***,antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities are common pharmacological values among parasitic *** are largely due to the presence of abundant beneficial classes of ***,there is an increasing number of biocontrol studies on the use of microorganisms,such as Phaeobotryosphaeria visci,Sphaeropsis visci,Pandoraea pulminicol,Colletotrichum gloeosporioides,and Fusarium oxysporum in controlling and managing these seemingly disastrous *** is hoped that this review will spur further studies into the conservation and proper management of parasitic plants using strategically developed biocontrol.
