The aim of this study was to in.estigate the in.er-fraction.variation., patien. comfort an. kn.wledge at Charlotte Maxeke Johan.esburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH). The differen.es in.set-up that occurred between.treatmen. session. for the left sided breast patien.s were observed an. recorded. Measuremen.s of routin. set-up variation.for 24 patien.s were performed by matchin. the con. beam computed tomography (CBCT) an. the plan.in. computed tomography (CT). Scan. of all five fraction. per patien. were used to quan.ify the setup variation. with stan.ard deviation.(SD) in.all the three direction. (an.erior posterior, left right, an. superior in.erior). The patien.s DIBH comfort an. kn.wledge was also evaluated. The average tran.lation.l errors for the an.erior posterior (AP, z), left-right (LR, x), an. Superior-in.erior (SI, y) direction. were 0.40 cm, 0.40 cm, an. 0.40 cm, respectively. The tran.lation.variation.of the three direction. showed statistical sign.fican.e (P n.comfort an. kn.wledge in.estigation. amon. all participan.s, 80% moderately agreed that the therapist’s in.truction. for operatin. the deep in.piration.breath hold (DIBH) techn.que were easy to un.erstan., an. 63.33% in.icated that their comfort with the DIBH techn.que was n.utral or average. The in.er-fraction.variation. in.patien.s with left-sided breast can.er were qualitatively an.lyzed. Sign.fican. shifts between.CBCT an. plan.in. CT images were observed. The daily treatmen. verification.could assist accurate dose delivery.

A Study of the TPS Based Beam-Matchin. Con.ept for Medical Lin.ar Accelerators at a Tertiary Hospital

The flexibility in.radiotherapy can.be improved if patien.s can.be moved between.an. on. of the departmen.’s medical lin.ar accelerators (LIn.Cs) without the n.ed to chan.e an.thin. in.the patien.’s treatmen. plan. For this to be possible, the dosimetric characteristics of the various accelerators must be the same, or n.arly the same. The purpose of this work is to describe further an. compare measuremen.s an. parameters after the in.tial ven.or-recommen.ed beam matchin. of the five LIn.Cs. Deviation. related to dose calculation. an. to beam matched accelerators may compromise treatmen. accuracy. The safest an. most practical way to en.ure that all accelerators are within.clin.cal acceptable accuracy is to in.lude TPS calculation. in.the LIn.Cs matchin. evaluation. Treatmen. plan.in. system (TPS) was used to create three photon. plan. with differen. field sizes 3 × 3 cm, 10 × 10 cm an. 25 × 25 cm at a depth of 4.5 cm in.Perspex. Calculated TPS plan. were sen. to Mosaiq to be delivered by five LIn.Cs. TPS plan. were compared with five LIn.Cs measuremen.s data usin. Gamma an.lyses of 2% an. 2 mm. The results suggest that for four out of the five LIn.Cs, there was gen.rally good agreemen., less than.a 2% deviation.between.the plan.ed dose distribution.an. the measured dose distribution. However, on. specific LIn.C n.med “Asterix” exhibited a deviation.of 2.121% from the plan.ed dose. The results show that all of the LIn.Cs’ performan.e were within.the acceptable deviation.an. deliverin. radiation.dose con.isten.ly an. accurately.
