BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB)is a severe and potentially life-threatening condition,especially in cases of delayed *** tomography angiography(CTA)plays a pivotal role in the early identification of upper and lower GIB and in the prompt treatment of the *** To determine whether a volumetric estimation of the extravasated contrast at CTA in GIB may be a predictor of subsequent positive angiographic *** In this retrospective single-centre study,35 patients(22 men;median age 69 years;range 16-92 years)admitted to our institution for active GIB detected at CTA and further submitted to catheter angiography between January 2018 and February 2022 were ***-three(65.7%)patients underwent endoscopy before *** volumetry was evaluated in both arterial and venous phases via a semi-automated dedicated *** rate was obtained from volume change between the two phases and standardised for unit *** were divided into two groups,according to the angiographic signs and their concordance with *** Upper bleeding accounted for 42.9%and lower GIB for 57.1%.Mean haemoglobin value at the admission was 7.7 g/dL.A concordance between positive CTA and direct angiographic bleeding signs was found in 19(54.3%)*** no significant differences in terms of bleeding volume in the arterial phase(0.55 mL vs 0.33 mL,P=0.35),a statistically significant volume increase in the venous phase was identified in the group of patients with positive angiography(2.06 mL vs 0.9 mL,P=0.02).In the latter patient group,a significant increase in bleeding rate was also detected(2.18 mL/min vs 0.19 mL/min,P=0.02).CONCLUSION In GIB of any origin,extravasated contrast volumetric analysis at CTA could be a predictor of positive angiography and may help in avoiding further unnecessary procedures.

Improving georeferencing accuracy of Very High Resolution satellite imagery using freely available ancillary data at global coverage

Molecular adsorbent recirculating system therapy in a rare case of fulminant hepatitis

Background: Acute hepatitis C virus infection leading to fulminant hepatitis is very rare whereas Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is one of the main causes of chronic liver disease worldwide. The repertoire of substances that accumulate in the blood in fulminant hepatic failure cause neurological abnormalities, aggravate injury to the liver and other organs, suppress the ability of residual hepatocytes to perform organ-specific functions (sick cell syndrome), and inhibit the hepatic regenerative response especially in fulminant hepatitis Virus C which has subacute clinical evolution and takes time to manifest. Liver support technology is evolving as different techniques become available that assist the remaining functional cell mass by providing specific liver functions. Case Presentation: We report a case of Fulminant C virus Hepatitis, successfully treated with albumin dialysis Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS). At time of admittance the patient presented: Model End-stage Liver Disease (MELD)-36;Child Turcotte Pugh (CTP)-C(13);Sequential Organ Failure Assestment (SOFA)-12, Glasgow Coma Score (GCS)-11. The patient underwent six sessions of MARS in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in association with standard medical therapy (SMT). The patient survived and was discharged from the hospital in good condition after 40 days without liver transplantation (LT).

Assessment of chicken breast shelf life based on bench-top and portable near-infrared spectroscopy tools coupled with chemometrics

Objectives:Near-infra red(NIR)spectroscopy is a rapid technique able to assess meat quality even if its capability to determine the shelf life of chicken fresh cuts is still debated,especially for portable *** aim of the study was to compare bench-top and portable NIR instruments in discriminating between four chicken breast refrigeration times(RT),coupled with multivariate classifier *** and Methods:Ninety-six samples were analysed by both NIR tools at 2,6,10 and 14 days post *** data were subsequently submitted to partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA)and canonical discriminant analysis(CDA).The latter was preceded by double feature selection based on Boruta and Stepwise ***:PLS-DA sorted moderate separation of RT theses,while shelf life assessment was more accurate on application of ***-top tool had better performance than portable one,probably because it captured more informative spectral data as shown by the variable importance in projection(VIP)and restricted pool of Stepwise-CDA predictive scores(SPS).Conclusions:NIR tools coupled with a multivariate model provide deep insight into the physicochemical processes occurring during *** showed reliable effectiveness to recognise a 7-day shelf life threshold of breasts,suitable for routine at-line application for screening of meat quality.

Identification of Alkaloid’s Profile in Ficus benjamina L. Extracts with Higher Antioxidant Power

Different classes of known alkaloid compounds were identified for the first time in leaves and barks of Ficus benjamina L. from Moraceae family. The identification of 28 alkaloids in F. benjamina leaves and 14 alkaloids in its barks was identified using chromatographic analysis as Gas Chromatography associated to Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). This characterization analysis allows to verifying the presence of different alkaloids type-classes in both leaves and barks, such as isoquinoline class, indole class and quinolizidine class. The quantification results are deduced by analysis with spectrophotometric assay, using a calibration curve of boldine as standard alkaloid that reveals the presence of 26 ± 0.1 μg of alkaloids boldine equivalent in 1 gram of F. benjamina leaves and 3.8 ± 0.1 μg alkaloids boldine equivalent in 1 gram of its barks. A significant correlation was observed between the total alkaloid content of crude extracts and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay (DPPH), suggesting that the level of antioxidant activity in this species is strongly correlated to the alkaloid content. These findings should provide useful information for future on the pharmaceutical properties of these alkaloids from F. benjamina.

Polymixin-B hemoperfusion in a case intolerant to conventional antibiotic therapy

In this study we document how it was possible to resolve the septic complications of abdominal surgery, subjecting a patient severely allergic to intravenous antibiotics. We performed the hemoperfusion with polymyxin-B columns (PMX-DHP), guiding the therapy by assaying endotoxin activity and evaluating the clinical status of the patient after each session of PMX-DHP. The stabilization of hemodynamic and inflammatory frameworks were immediately observed after the PMX-DHP. The patient could be safely discharged five days after the discontinuation of the therapy. Our findings confirms data already published in literature concerning the effectiveness of PMX-DHP.

Nonsense variant of ATP8B1 gene in heterozygosis and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis: A case report and review of literature

Electrochemical Characterization of Rapid Discharge Sintering (RDS) NiO Cathodes for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells of <i>p</i>-Type

Nickel oxide (NiO) thin films with thickness ranging in the interval 0.2 - 3.5 μm have been deposited onto conductive transparent substrate via the method of plasma-assisted rapid discharge sintering (RDS) with microwave heating starting from NiO nanoparticles with diameter 50 nm. The optical and electrochemical properties of the RDS NiO films in the pristine state were characterized in non aqueous electrolyte with the solvent 3-methoxy-propionitrile (3-MPN). Upon electrochemical cycling of NiO in 3-MPN we observed two characteristic oxidation peaks referring to the two nickel centred processes Ni(II)→Ni(III) and Ni(III)→Ni(IV), which are both localized prevalently on the surface of the metallic oxide. The oxide films prepared with the RDS method were also sensitized with different types of commercial dyes, either organometallic (N719, black dye) or organic (squaraine 2, erythrosine B), to compare the corresponding p-type dye-sensitized solar cells (p-DSCs). All dyes here employed matched the energies of their frontier orbitals with the upper edge of NiO valence band and the redox level of the triiodide/iodide couple. The comparison of the performances of the p-DSCs based on RDS NiO which differed exclusively for the nature of the sensitizer showed that the extent of electronic conjugation in the structure of the dye is crucial for the control of the photovoltaic performance of the corresponding p-DSC.
