Bending,Compression and Bonding Performance of Cross-Laminated Timber(CLT)Made from Malaysian Fast-Growing Timbers

This study investigated the bending,compression as well as the bonding performance of CLT panels made from fast-growing timber species,i.e.,Laran(Neolamarckia cadamba)and Batai(Paraserianthes falcataria).The variables studied were timber species(Laran and Batai),layers of lamination(3-layer and 5-layer),loading direction in bending(in-plane and out-of-plane),loading direction in compression(x-,y-,and z-axis)and different treatment conditions for bonding performance *** desired outputs of this study were bending and compression properties(strength and stiffness)as well as bonding performance(block shear strength,wood failure percentage and delamination value).The bending and compression test were conducted according to EN16351:2015 and EN408:2012,*** the other hand,the bonding performance test was determined by block shear and delamination test based on EN16351:2015 and EN14374:2004,*** to block shear test,the samples were subjected to three different treatment *** results showed that CLT made from 3-layer Laran timber,loaded at out-of-plane direction exhibited the highest bending ***,CLT made from 5-layered Batai timber,loaded at in-plane direction showed the lowest bending *** samples for compression loaded at x-axis exhibited the best compressive ***,Laran CLT showed greater bonding performance determined by shear test compared to Batai CLT for both 3-and 5-layer *** the contrary,delamination results showed that Batai CLT demonstrated better bonding performance compared to Laran *** terms of bonding performance measured by wood failure percentage(WFP),most samples under various treatment conditions showed WFP≥80%except for samples under wet condition with WFP≤60%.

A series of mononuclear complexes and unsymmetric dinuclear alkynylplatinum(II)terpyridine complexes with oligo(paraphenylene ethynylene)(OPE)-derived backbone with a variation of the lengths of alkoxy chains and OPE backbones was *** morphological properties,packing lattice and gelation behaviors of the mononuclear complexes were systematically studied,and the thermodynamic parameters and packing lattices of the dinuclear complexes were also investigated,providing further insights into the roles of the non-covalent interactions and their delicate balance in constructing sophisticated supramolecular *** and nanotube formation have been observed upon a delicate control of the intermolecular interactions by altering the lengths and structural dimensions of the complexes.

Objective:To evaluate the effects of Ving Tsun(VT)sticking-hand training on upper-limb joint position sense and muscular performance in community-dwelling middle-aged and older ***:Thirty-three adults were randomly allocated to either a VT group or a control *** VT group received VT sticking-hand training twice per week for 3 *** were taken before and after the intervention *** primary outcome was elbow-joint repositioning error,which was measured by an elbow-joint passive positioning and active repositioning test using a universal *** outcomes were upper-limb muscles'peak force and time taken to reach peak force as measured by a hand-held ***:No significant time,group or time-by-group interaction effects were found for elbow-joint repositioning error or upper-limb muscle peak force *** flexor time to peak force decreased by 33.8%from pre-test to post-test in the VT group(P=0.007).Shoulder abductor,internal and external rotator,and elbow extensor times to peak force decreased by 30.0%-35.9%in the VT%roup(P<0.05)and by 30.4%-37.1%in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:VT sticking-hand training does not improve elbow-joint position sense or the maximum strength of upper-limb muscles in middle-aged and older ***,VT can improve shoulder flexor muscles'time to reach peak force in these *** had no obvious effect on the time required to reach peak force in other shoulder muscles and elbow extensors.

Background Apolipoprotein AI(apo AI),is a major protein component of the high-density lipoprotein *** of apo AI prevents the development of ***,the apo AI level is inversely correlated withthe incidence of cardiovascular *** is our interest to identify what can stimulate the expression of apo AI and howthis stimulation *** have found that activation of either protein kinase A or kinase C stimulates the gene expres-sion of apo AI(Journal of Biological Chemistry 275(41):31747-31754,2000).Our further studies showed that growthfactors or hormones,such as epidermal growth factor and insulin,stimulate the gene expression of apo AI as well(J BiolChem,2001,276(17):13822-13829).In this study,we have determined that increase of intracellular Castimu-lates the expression of apo AI gene,which is inhibited by cyclosporin A,an immune inhibitor for transplantation,andthis inhibition is through the calcium and calcineurin pathway.
