Helicobacter pylori-related chronic gastritis as a risk factor for colonic neoplasms

To summarize the current views and insights on associations between Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-related chronic gastritis and colorectal neoplasm, we reviewed recent studies to clarify whether H. pylori infection/H. pylori-related chronic gastritis is associated with an elevated risk of colorectal neoplasm. Recent studies based on large databases with careful control for confounding variables have clearly demonstrated an increased risk of colorectal neoplasm associated with H. pylori infection. The correlation between H. pylori-related chronic atrophic gastritis(CAG) and colorectal neoplasm has only been examined in a limited number of studies. A recent large study using a national histopathological database, and our study based on the stage of H. pylori-related chronic gastritis as determined by serum levels of H. pylori antibody titer and pepsinogen, indicatedthat H. pylori-related CAG confers an increased risk of colorectal neoplasm, and more extensive atrophic gastritis will probably be associated with even higher risk of neoplasm. In addition, our study suggested that the activity of H. pylori-related chronic gastritis is correlated with colorectal neoplasm risk. H. pylori-related chronic gastritis could be involved in an increased risk of colorectal neoplasm that appears to be enhanced by the progression of gastric atrophy and the presence of active inflammation.

Effect of Soy Bean Isoflavon on Lipid Accumulation in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

Several nutrition and food ingredients are supposed to have beneficial effects, but precise cell biological mechanism has not been elucidated. Among food ingredients, polyphenols such as soy bean isoflavon genistein and wine resveratrol have been reported to have effects on lipid metabolism and cardiovacular diseases (1). In order to elucidate the effect of genistein on obesity, we cultured adipocyte and observed of genisten to lipid accumulation in cells. Triglyceride accumulation was suppressed by genistein when it was added at the time of differentiation but not when added after differentiation. Genistein is considered to suppress lipid accumulation by suppressing the differtiation of adipocytes.

An autopsy case of metastatic extramammary Paget’s disease treated with multimodality treatment including anti-HER2 therapy: What is the clinical and pathological significance of trastuzumab to the patient?

Advanced Extramammary Paget’s disease (AEMPD) shows a poor prognosis despite multimodality therapy. In recent years, it is suggested that anti-HER2 therapy may be promising for HER2-positive AEMPD. We herein present an autopsy case of a patient with AEMPD treated with multimodality treatment including anti-HER2 therapy. A 78-year-old man who diagnosed with AEMPD died after surgery and systemic chemotherapy including anti-HER2 therapy (trastuzumab). The metastatic skin lesions were immnohistologically HER2-positive. While the patients were administrated trastuzumab plus taxan (docetaxel, and paclitaxel) regimen, the metastatic skin lesion decreased, however, brain metastases were found in his brain and trastuzumab is discontinued. The skin metastasis rapidly spread over his body, leading to weakness, and he eventually died. At autopsy, the lesions of EMPD were extended distant organs including brain, although each metastasis was small and asymptomatic. The wide lesion of skin metastasis was exacerbated after discontinuation of trastuzumab, and transudate was observed due to the extensive necrosis and erosion. Our autopsy findings showed one progressive pattern of AEMPD, and indicated what is the clinical and pathological significance of anti HER2 therapy for HER2-positive AEMPD.

The Straightness Backstroke Kick Makes Fast Speed and Increased Lactate Acid. A Case Study Using 3-Times Olympian

In this study, we assess the effectiveness of utilizing a straight knee kick in the backstroke with regard to the overall time, max speed, and distance per stroke when using a straight knee butterfly technique. We analyzed freestyle kick of knee angles from 7-Olympic medalists, 1970＇s S-shaped pulling pattern stroke was used with a bending knee freestyle kick. The straight knee kick used in butterfly competitions resulted in improvements from 54.74 to 51.00 in Men＇s 100-meter butterfly and fi＇om 23.43 to 23.02 in Men＇s 50-meter butterfly. Using a straight knee kick in backstroke competitions resulted in improvements from 1：01.74 to 1：00.55 in the 100-meter backstroke event. Increases in performance speed, max speed and distance per stroke among three elite level swimmers are highly correlated to duration of the kick resistance, and straight knee kick in backstroke. The straight knee kick also resulted in an increase in lactate acid.
