AIM： To transplant undifferentiated embryonic stem （ES） cells into the spleens of carbon tetrachloride （CCl4）-treated mice to determine their ability to differentiate into hepatocytes in the liver. METHODS： CCh, 0.5 mL/kg body weight, was injected into the peritoneum of C57BL/6 mice twice a week for 5 wk. In group 1 （n = 12）, 1 × 10^5 undifferentiated ES cells （0.1 mL of 1 × 10^6/mL solution）, genetically labeled with GFP, were transplanted into the spleens 1 d after the second injection. Group 2 mice （n = 12） were injected with 0.2 mL of saline twice a week, instead of CCh, and the same amount of ES cells was transplanted into the spleens. Group 3 mice （n = 6） were treated with CCh and injected with 0.1 mL of saline into the spleen, instead of ES cells. Histochemical analyses of the livers were performed on post-transplantation d （PD） 10, 20, and 30. RESULTS： Considerable numbers of GFP-immunopositive cells were found in the periportal regions in group 1 mice （CCh-treated） on PD 10, however, not in those untreated with CCh （group 2）. The GFP-positive cells were also immunopositive for albumin （ALB）, alpha-1 antitrypsin, cytokeratin 18, and hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha on PD 20. Interestingly, most of the GFP-positive cells were immunopositive for DLK, a hepatoblast marker, on PD 10. Although very few ES-derived cells were demonstrated immunohistologically in the livers of group 1 mice on PD 30, improvements in liver fibrosis were observed. Unexpectedly, liver tumor formation was not observed in any of the mice that received ES cell transplantation during the experimental period COnCLUSIOn： Undifferentiated ES cells developed into hepatocyte-like cells with appropriate integration into tissue, without uncontrolled cell growth.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to use finite elemental analysis (FEA) to evaluate bone stress near an implant placed at the border between the mandible and fibular graft in mandibular reconstruction. Materials and Methods: A fibular model (FM) and transplantation model (TM) were constructed for FEA. In TM, mandible was on the mesial side and the fibular graft was on the distal side. The implant was positioned at the center of both bone models. In TM, it was placed on the border between the mandible and fibular graft. A 10-mm implant was used in the monocortical model and a 15-mm implant was used in the bicortical model. The loading force was set at 100 n, the angle was set at 90°, and the loading position was set as center, mesial, or distal on the upper surface of the prosthesis. Von Mises equivalent stress values of the bone near the implant collar and apex at the middle line between buccal and lingual side were measured. Results: In all models, stress values were significantly lower with center loading than with distal loading and mesial loading. In center loading, the stress values were significantly lower in the bicortical model than in the monocortical model. There were no significant differences in stress values between FM and TM in all conditions. Conclusions: Bone stress was least with the center loading position, which was further decreased by bicortical fixation. There was no increase in mechanical stress associated with placing an implant at the border between the mandible and the fibular graft.

Objective：To summarize and critically assess the efficacy of Eastern and Western manipulative therapies for the treatment of neck pain in adults. Methods：A search of Pub Med/MEDLInE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Clinical ***, EMBASE, etc. from their inception date to January 2014 with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean databases. Two reviewers independently selected randomized controlled trials（RCTs） with negative control or blank control, extracted data and assessed methodological quality. Meta-analysis and levels of evidence were performed by Revman5.1 and Grades of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation（GRADE） approach. Results：nineteen clinical trials with adequate randomization were included in this review, 11 of them had a low risk of bias. The primary outcome for shortterm pain had no significant differences, however, the secondary outcome, only the numerical Pain Rating Scale（nPRS） score of intermediate-term [n=916, pooled mean differences（MD） =–0.29, P=0.02], the neck Disability Index（nDI） score of short-term（n=1,145, pooled MD=–2.10, P〈0.01）, and intermediate-term（n=987, pooled MD=–1.45, P=0.01） were significantly reduced with moderate quality evidence. However, it supported the minimally clinically important difference（MCID） of the Visual Analogue Scale and nPRS pain score to be 13 mm, while nDI was 3.5 points. The meta-analysis only suggested a trend in favor of manipulative therapy rather than clinical significance. Conclusions：The results do not support the existing evidences for the clinical value of Eastern or Western manipulative therapy for neck pain of short-term follow-up according to MCIDs. The limitations of our review related to blinding, allocation concealment and small sample size.

AIM: To determine the bowel symptoms associated with diabetes and diabetes-related factors after excluding gastrointestinal (GI) organic ***: Participants were 4738 (603 diabetic and 4135 non-diabetic) patients who underwent colonoscopy and completed a questionnaire. On the day of pre-colonoscopy, 9 symptoms (borborygmus, abdominal distension, increased flatus, constipation, diarrhea, loose stools, hard stools, fecal urgency, and incomplete evacuation) were prospectively evaluated on a 7-point Likert scale. The test-retest reliability of the bowel symptom scores from the baseline and second questionnaires was analyzed using kappa statistics. Associations between bowel symptom scores and diabetes or diabetes-related factors were analyzed by a rank-ordered logistic model adjusted for related confounders, and odds ratios (ORs) were ***: In multivariate analysis, constipation [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.57, CI: 1.33-1.85, P nd hard stools (AOR = 1.56, CI: 1.33-1.84, P nd fecal urgency (AOR = 1.16, CI: 0.99-1.37, P = 0.07) and incomplete evacuation (AOR = 1.16, CI: 1.00-1.36, P = 0.06) were marginally associated with diabetes. These symptoms remained associated even after excluding organic GI diseases on colonoscopy. Test-retest reliability of symptom score with a mean duration of 3.2 mo was good (mean kappa, 0.69). Castleman's disease(CD) is an uncommon benign lymphoproliferative disorder of unknown etiology. A rare case of cervical CD diagnosed at lymph node dissection for esophageal carcinoma is reported. An esophageal tumor was identified in a 67-year-old man during a follow-up examination after surgery for oral carcinoma. Esophagoscopy revealed a type 1 tumor in the cervical esophagus. Histology of esophagoscopic biopsies indicated squamous cell carcinoma. Contrastenhanced computed tomography revealed swollen lymph nodes of the right cervical region. no distant metastasis was detected. Esophageal carcinoma, T2n2M0, Stage ⅢA was diagnosed. neoadjuvant chemotherapy was recommended, but the patient rejected the chemotherapy. The patient underwent laparoscopic-assisted transhiatal esophagectomy. The histopathological diagnosis was moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with pT1bn0M0, Stage ⅠA. On histology, the swollen lymph nodes of the right cervical region revealed CD. The patient's postoperative course was relatively good.

Mantle xenoliths entrained in a newly discovered Late Cretaceous basaltic breccia at Junan,Shandong Province,China provide important constraints on the nature and evolution of the Late Mesozoic Uthospheric mantle beneath the eastern north China *** basaltic breccia erupted at 67 Ma contains abundant mantle and lower crustal xenoliths,including peridotites, pyroxenites,and *** peridotitic xenoliths are all spinel-facies lherzolites and two types of lherzolites,high-Mg# and low-Mg#,*** low-Mg# lherzolites are dominant peridotitic xenoliths and have coarse-grained *** lherzolites are characterized by the occurrence of low Mg#(Fo = 0.3-0.8) in *** mineral features and estimated equilibration temperatures (950-1040℃) are very similar to those of lherzolite xenoliths entrained in the widespread Cenozoic basalts,eastern *** similarity suggests that the low-Mg# spinel lherzolites represent the newly accreted Uthospheric *** high-Mg# lherzolites are very few and typified with high Mg# olivine(Fo = 92),high Cr# spinel,and convex-upward cpx REE pattern ((La/Yb)n = 1.5 and(La/nd)n = 0.2).Its refractory geochemical features are completely different from those of low-Mg# lherzolites,but similar to those xenoliths from Archean and Proterozoic Uthospheric mantle on the craton,and thus represent the relic of old refractory Uthospheric mantle. The convex-upward cpx REE pattern implies an involvement of melt/rock interaction in its origin. no obvious differences in the equilibrium temperature of low-and high-Mg# peridotites suggest that the newly accreted mantle was close contact with the overlying old Uthospheric mantle at the time of basaltic eruption.

Fish oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects, and to reduce serum triacylglycerol (TAG) levels by stimulating lipid oxidation and inhibiting lipogenesis in the liver. A small number of studies have demonstrated the synergistic effect of fish oil and other bioactive components. This study examined the effect of fish oil in combination with porcine hemoglobin (Hb) hydrolysates on serum and liver lipid contents in rats. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups;one group was fed a casein and soybean oil-based semi-purified basal diet and other three groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 2% fish oil, 0.175% Hb hydrolysates, and 2% fish oil plus 0.175% Hb hydrolysates, respectively, for 4 weeks. The fish oil diet decreased serum and liver TAG contents but did not change serum and liver cholesterol levels. The dietary combination of fish oil and Hb hydrolysates decreased serum and liver TAG and cholesterol contents owing to the additive effect of both compounds, and this diet reduced the serum non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol content as a result of a synergistic effect. This hypolipidemic effect was in part caused by enhanced excretion of fecal fatty acids, neutral steroids, and acidic steroids. The results of this study suggest that the combined intake of fish oil and Hb hydrolysates may play beneficial roles in the prevention of cardiovascular disease as compared with fish oil alone.

ng>Objective:ng> Knee pain is commonly observed among older adults. Therefore, the prevention of knee pain in older adults is a major public health issue. This study aimed to clarify factors relevant to knee pain among older adults. ng>Methods:ng> This study targeted all independent older adults (n = 6661) living in a local municipality in Japan. Participants’ health status and lifestyle habits were surveyed using a questionnaire. The survey was conducted from 15 January to 14 February 2016. Relationships between knee pain and physical activity, sitting time, nutrition, drinking, smoking, or body mass index (BMI) were examined using logistic regression analysis. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) adjusted for several confounding factors were calculated. ng>Results:ng> Older adults of 5311 responded to the questionnaire and 1843 reported knee pain. The prevalence of knee pain was 34.8%. Knee pain was significantly associated with BMI (OR: 0.60, 95% CI: 0.51 - 0.69, P n the group of normal range, OR: 0.38, 95% CI: 0.29 - 0.51, P n the group of nutrition status (OR: 0.63, 95% CI: 0.54 - 0.75, P nd physical activity (OR: 0.81, 95% CI: 0.71 - 0.92, P = 0.001). ng>Conclusions:ng> This study suggests that one in three independently-living older adults experiences chronic knee pain and that physical activity, BMI, and nutritional status are associated with knee pain.
