The protective effects of procyanidin C-1 on bisphenol A-induced testicular dysfunction in aged mice

The number and quality of sperm are decreased due to bisphenol A(BPA) exposure, an endocrine-disrupting chemical on the male reproductive system, especially in advanced paternal age(APA). Procyanidin C-1(PCY-1), an antioxidant from grape seed(Vitis vinifera L.), has demonstrated anti-viral, anti-melanogenic and immunostimulatory effects. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effects of PCY-1 intervention on sperm parameters, testis morphological changes, serum testosterone, oestradiol, and luteinizing hormone(LH) concentrations and the expression of apoptotic(Bax and Bcl-2) and mitochondria-related(Mfn1 and Opa1) genes in BPA-exposed aged mice. Results revealed that PCY-1 intervention improves aged male fertility in BPA-exposed conditions by decreasing abnormal sperms percentage and increasing spermatogenic cell diameter and epithelial height. PCY-1 also decreased oestradiol, and increased LH and testosterone levels. The gene expression of Bax was significantly down-regulated by PCY-1 intervention. In contrast, Bcl-2 was substantially up-regulated. Expression of Mfn1 and Opa1 genes were also significantly up-regulated in the PCY intervention group. Hence, it is demonstrated that PCY-1 was able to mitigate the adverse effects of BPA on reproductive parameters of aged mice. Collectively, we postulated that PCY-1 has a potential role in protecting the ageing male reproductive system against the damaging impacts of BPA.

The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy(DR),and associated morbidity is high in the Asia-Pacific *** evidence suggests a potential role for fenofibrate in the prevention of progression of DR,especially in patients with cardiovascular risk,and pre-existing mild-to-moderate *** has also been found to reduce maculopathy,and the need for laser treatment in these *** these benefits of fenofibrate,a group of experts from the fields of endocrinology and ophthalmology convened in May 2017,to discuss on the the mechanism of action,and clinical efficacy of fenofibrate in *** findings from key clinical studies on fenofibrate in DR were reviewed by the experts,and consensus statements were derived to define the role of fenofibrate in the prevention and treatment of *** statements were rated based on the GRADE *** algorithm was also developed for the screening and treatment of DR in patients with type 2 diabetes(T2D),and the place of fenofibrate was defined in the *** expert recommendations,and the algorithm provided in this review will serve as a guide to the clinicians to reconsider the adjunctive use of fenofibrate for preventing the progression of DR in selected T2D patients.

Refractive errors and biometry of primary angle-closure disease in a mixed Malaysian population

AIM： To assess the refractive status, anterior chamber depth （ACD） and axial length （AL） of patients with primary angle-closure disease （PACD）. METHODS： Retrospective cohort. Data was collected from charts of all PACD patients treated from April 2013 to December 2015. Analysis was done on 137 patient charts with complete biometric data. Patient demographics, PACD type, refractive status （spherical equivalent）, ACD and AL were studied. RESULTS： The median age of 137 subjects [53 with primary angle-closure suspects （PACS）, 27 with primary angle- closure （PAC） and 57 with primary angle-closure glaucoma （PACG）] was 68y （range 21-88y）. The majority was Chinese （n=68; 49.6%） and most of them were women （n=75; 54.7%）. The distribution of myopia （n=51; 37.2%） and hyperopia （n=49; 35.8%） was similar. The ACD was shallower in myopes compared to hyperopes （P=-0.02） and emmetropia （P=-0.049） but the AL was not significantly different between groups. There were no patients blind from PACG. CONCLUSION： Both myopia and hyperopia can occur in PACD. Despite a shallower ACD in angle closure myopes, the AL was not different between groups.

This article presents the generation of Orbital AngularMomentum(OAM)vortex waves with mode 1 using Uniform Circular Array(UCA)*** different designs,namely,UCA-1(4-element array antenna)and UCA-2(8-element array antenna),were designed and fabricated using FR-4 substrate to generate OAM mode 1 at 3.5 GHz(5G mid-band).The proposed antenna arrays comprised rectangular microstrip patch elements with inset fed *** elements were excited by a carefully designed feeding phase shift network to provide similar output energy at output ports with desired phase shift *** generated OAM waves were confirmed by measuring the null in the bore sight of their 2D radiation patterns,simulated phase distribution and intensity *** measurement results agree well with the simulation ***,a detailed mode purity analysis of the generated OAM waves was carried out considering different *** investigation found that the greater the number of elements,the higher the purity of the generated OAM *** with other previous works,the proposed antenna design of this paper is very simple to design and *** addition,the proposed antennas are compact in design even at lower frequency band with very wide bandwidth to meet the requirements of 5G mid-band applications.

With the rapid progress of deep convolutional neural networks,several applications of crowd counting have been proposed and explored in the *** congested scene monitoring,a variety of crowd density estimating approaches has been *** understanding of highly congested scenes for crowd counting during Muslim gatherings of Hajj and Umrah is a challenging task,as a large number of individuals stand nearby and,it is hard for detection techniques to recognize them,as the crowd can vary from low density to high *** deal with such highly congested scenes,we have proposed the Congested Scene Crowd Counting Network(CSCC-Net)using VGG-16 as a core network with its first ten layers due to its strong and robust transfer learning rate.A hole dilated convolutional neural network is used at the back end to widen the relevant field to extract a large range of information from the image without losing its original *** dilated convolution neural network is mainly chosen to expand the kernel size without changing other ***,several loss functions have been applied to strengthen the evaluation accuracy of the ***,the entire experiments have been evaluated using prominent data sets namely,ShanghaiTech parts A,B,UCF_CC_50,and UCF_*** model has achieved remarkable results i.e.,68.0 and 9.0 MAE on ShanghaiTech parts A,B,199.1 MAE on UCF_CC_50,and 99.8 on UCF_QNRF data sets respectively.

The paper presents the investigation of the effect of alkaline treatment of sodium hydroxide(NaOH) on physical and dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) viscoelastic properties of kenaf fibre filled natural rubber(NR)/thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU) *** treated kenaf fiber,NR and TPU were weighed and proportioned according to the required compositions and were blended using hot mixed Brabender *** polymer composites were then fabricated using the hot press to form a sample *** sample was cut and prepared and water absorption,density,thickness swelling and DMA tests were *** far as physical properties are concerned,composites with the highest NR amount of shows the best results,which indicates good fiber bonding *** polymer composites with the highest amount of TPU shows the highest damping properties at high temperature.

An engine rubber mounting is one of the important parts of a vehicle. It is a function to isolate or absorb and to reduce vibration to the vehicle body thus to the passenger itself. Due to the engine compartments environment such as heat and massive vibration due to road conditions, the engine rubber mountings lifespan has been reduced. Thus several studies have been conducted to upgrade the material lifespan to make it more reliable and better engine mounting components. This paper presents the conceptual design of kenaf fiber polymer as automotive engine rubber mounting composites using the integration of Theory of Inventive Problem Solving(TRIZ). In this early stage, the solution is generated using 40 inventive principles and TRIZ contradiction method. The solution parameter for the specific design character is the selected using the morphological chart to develop a systematic conceptual design for the component. Four(4) innovative design concepts were produced and Analytic Network Process(ANP)methods were utilized to perform the multi-criteria decision-making process of selecting the best concept design for the polymer composite engine rubber mounting component.
