Therapeutic Potential of Berberine in Type 2 Diabetes: A Short Review

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial disease that is influenced by genetic, metabolic, and environmental factors. Genetic predisposition, obesity, low physical activity, and unhealthy diet are key risk factors for T2DM. Result: Type 2 diabetes is treated with various natural medicines, the most significant of which is berberine (BBR). Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid found in various medicinal plants, exhibits a wide range of pharmacological activities and (BBR) has the potential to treat various diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, and metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Conclusion: It has been found to be effective in AMPK activation, regulation of blood glucose and lipids, stimulation of insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, inhibition of cancer cells, and reduction of fat formation.

The Protective Effect of Moringa oleifera Leaves Extract on Paracetamol Hepatotoxicity in Male Rats

In recent years, there has been an increase in concern regarding the effects of paracetamol poisoning on liver tissues, particularly when consumed in large amounts. Some studies have estimated that paracetamol is involved in 56% of acute liver diseases, whereas 0.4% of paracetamol overdose cases result in fatal-ity. In this study, the effects of Moringa oleifera on paracetamol toxicity in the liver were explored. It has been demonstrated that Moringa oleifera is highly nu-tritious, contains bioactive molecules, and is therapeutically beneficial. Many studies have shown that Moringa oleifera leaves possess a wide range of biologi-cal properties, including antioxidant, tissue protection, analgesic, antihyperten-sive, and immunomodulatory activities. This study highlights the protective role of Moringa oleifera on handling possible paracetamol hepatotoxicity in male rats. .

Effect of Low and High Glycemic Index Meals on Hunger and Satiety

Recently, people suffer from the inability to maintain weight with an increasing body mass, and this may be due to several reasons, including the type and quantity of food. In current study, the effect of the glycemic index of foods (high-low-medium) on the speed of return of hunger in adult women was discussed. Non-pregnant or lactating women who do not suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes and pressure, for three days in a row for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, by calculating the number of hours preceding the feeling of hunger, as the results showed that the least hours of hunger were after eating foods with a low glycemic index and then followed by foods with a medium glycemic index, and the number of hours of starvation after eating foods with a high glycemic index was the least, and this leads to an increase in subsequent food intake and an increase in calories during the day. The results indicated: first day that are high in the glycemic index (breakfast). Highest percentage of feeling hungry was 30% after 4 h (lunch). The highest percentage of feeling hungry was 30% after 3 h, (dinner), the highest percentage of not feeling hungry by 50%. The second day with a low glycemic index (breakfast). The highest percentage of feeling hungry after 4 h was 30%, (lunch). The highest percentage of feeling hungry after 4 h was 30%, (dinner). The highest percentage of not feeling hungry was 80%. Third day with a medium glycemic index (breakfast). The highest percentage of feeling hungry was after 3 h and 4 h, with a percentage of 30%, (lunch), the highest percentage of feeling hungry after 4 h, with a percentage of 30%, (dinner), the highest percentage of not feeling hungry by 70%, which increases body mass and weight continuously, and this leads to an increase in vulnerability to chronic diseases. Therefore, it is important to preserve and be careful to eat meals with a low and medium glycemic index in the diets, with the addition of foods with a high glycemic index

Insulin resistance (IR) has become more common in recent years, and it has been related to a number of metabolic disturbances such as obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Diabetes mellitus (DM), metabolic syndrome (MetS), cardiovascular disease (CVD), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and others. IR is defined by a decreased ability of cells to respond to insulin action, as well as hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia. There are many factors responsible for the evolution of IR, most notably genetic factors and the modern lifestyle in which an unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity have contributed to an increase in the spread of IR worldwide at various ages. Since insulin is the dominant hormone that drives metabolism and many important functions. Therefore, any alteration in normal insulin, such as high or low insulin levels has a significant influence on the body. Furthermore, to understand IR, it is essential first to know how insulin functions under natural physiologic conditions. This review aims to contribute to an understanding of insulin and insulin resistance, as well as the role of genetics and lifestyle in the evolution of insulin resistance and knowledge of the many common diseases associated with insulin resistance;in the final section of the review, certain diets and exercises have been suggested to help reduce insulin resistance.

Artemisia: A Comprehensive Review of Phytochemistry, Medicinal Properties, and Biological Activities

This review provides a comprehensive overview of the phytochemistry, medicinal properties, and biological activities of the Artemisia species. Artemisia species exhibit a wide range of morphological and phytochemical diversity, showing promise for the treatment of various diseases in humans, plants, and animals. Phytochemicals found in Artemisia spp. include terpenoids, flavonoids, coumarins, caffeoylquinic acids, sterols, and acetylenes. Dietary flavonoids have been linked to reduced cell aging, lipid peroxidation, and cancer risks. Sterols, including plant sterols, play a significant role in reducing the plasma cholesterol levels. Essential oils from Artemisia plants contain volatile chemicals with antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties that contribute to their biological activity. This study aimed to elucidate the effective compounds of Artemisia plants and their medicinal benefits and biological activities.

The Protective Effect of Grape Seed Extract on Cardiotoxicity Induced by Doxorubicin Drug in Male Rats

Objective: This work was designed to determine the productive effect of grape seed proanthocynadine extract (GSPE) and Vitamin E against Doxorubicin (DOX) induced myocardial toxicity in 50 male. Wister rates were divided in five groups. The 1st group was untreated and served as a control. The 2nd group was treated with DOX only, the 3rd group was pretreated with GSPE, the 4th group was pretreated with Vitamin E, and the 5th group was pretreated with GSPE and Vitamin E. DOX was administered by single i.p (Intraperitonial) injection of 15 mg/kg/body weight to induce cardio toxicity and Vitamin E was administered at a dose of 400 IU/kg/bodyweight/day, p.o (per oral) for 10 days prior to DOX administration [1]. GSPE was given at a dose of 150 mg/kg/bodyweight/ day, p.o (per oral) for 10 days before treatment with DOX. After 2 weeks experimental period, blood samples and heart tissues were taken from all groups. The general observations, mortality, histopathology, biomarker enzymes like Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), Creatine Phosphokinase (CPK), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), alanine Aminotransferase (alT), Antioxidants such as Glutathione (GSH), Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Catalase (CAT) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) were monitored after 2 weeks of the last dose. Results: Administration of DOX caused cardiomyopathy associated with an antioxidant deficiency. Pretreatment with GSPE and Vitamin E significantly (P alT to normal levels. GSPE and Vitamin E increased the GSH, SOD and CAT levels and decreased the MDA levels in cardiac tissue. Conclusion: These results suggest a cardioprotective effect of GSPE and Vitamin E due to its antioxidant properties.

Understanding alopecia Areata: Types, Causes, and Latest Therapeutic Approaches

Background: alopecia areata (AA) is a common autoimmune condition that causes hair loss. Affecting 0.5% - 2% of the population, AA manifests in several types, from mild to severe. Objectives: This study aimed to examine AA’s etiology and innovative treatments of AA, presenting a comprehensive overview of existing and investigational therapies. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review and screened recent studies to gain insight into treatment efficacy and outcomes. Results: The complexity of AA and the potential for novel therapies enhanced patients’ quality of life. Conclusions: There is a need for further research into AA’s genetic underpinnings of AA and more targeted treatments.

Measuring the Awareness of Thalassemia in Saudi Arabia

Introduction: Thalassemia disorder is a genetic disease that causes the blood to have less hemoglobin than normal, the main requirement to control thalassemia’s propagation is to educate the entire society. Methodology: A descriptive survey was taken to evaluate the awareness of thalassemia among Saudi Arabia’s society, with a sample size of 384. Results: The results were written in frequencies, and it shows that most of the participants were unaware and lacking information on thalassemia syndrome. Discussion: The results of this study provide valuable insights into the awareness of thalassemia in Saudi Arabia and highlight the need to raise awareness of this disease. Conclusion: This study is not comprehensive because the survey was not disrupted evenly, but it can give us an overview of the awareness of thalassemia in Saudi Arabia, and it shows that most of the participants were unaware and lacked information on thalassemia.

Effect of Seeds Size on Germination of Faba Bean Plant

The study was conducted in al-Qassim region in February 2020 and the study aimed to know the effect of seed size on germination and some morphological parameters in Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) plant, by dividing the seeds into three sizes large 2.5 - 2.3 cm, medium 2.0 - 2.2 cm, and small 1.7 - 1.9 cm and planting them. The results showed that the germination percentage in the large seeds was the highest (100%), and the size of the seeds affected the length of the root and shoot as the large seeds gave the highest length for root (8.37 cm) and shoot (14.2 cm) compared to the medium and small seeds. So, for these results, the seed size is closely related to root and shoot length, number of leaves.
