Sodium lanthanide fluoride core-shell nanocrystals： A general perspective on epitaxial shell growth

Understanding the structural characteristics and growth mechanism（s） are essen-tial for generating core-shell nano-heterostructures with distinctive properties. Especially in lanthanide-based nanocrystals, rational design of the core-shell composition can be utilized to enhance/tune the optical properties of the final nanostructure, or can be used to integrate multiple functional applications （e.g., luminescent/magnetic）. In this article, we review the progress in our current understanding of the epitaxial shell growth in sodium lanthanide fluoride （NaLnF4） nanocrystals. In order to understand epitaxial shell growth the core nanocrystals have to be uniform, and to date the synthesis of high quality near uniform size/shape dispersion controlled synthesis of lanthanide-based nanocrystals has been achieved mainly with this class of nanocrystals. The progress in core-shell synthesis and the epitaxial shell growth mechanism in this class of nanocrystals （NaLnF4） are reviewed, and a general perspective is provided on the core-shell morphology based on different characterization techniques. While there has been tremendous progress in studying the impact of core-shell structures in various functional applications, this review also highlights, in our view, the still limited understanding of ways to control the core-shell morphology and it emphasizes some important, unanswered questions that remain to be addressed to maximize their performance.

The single stranded RNA virus SARS-CoV-2 has caused a massive addition to the already leading global cause of mortality,viral respiratory tract *** by and associated with early and deleteriously enhanced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by respiratory epithelial cells,severe COVID-19 illness has the potential to inflict acute respiratory distress syndrome and even *** to the fast spreading nature of COVID-19 and the current lack of a vaccine or specific pharmaceutical treatments,understanding of viral pathogenesis,behavioral prophylaxis,and mitigation tactics are of great public health *** review article outlines the immune response to viral pathogens,and due to the novelty of COVID-19 and the large body of evidence suggesting the respiratory and immune benefits from regular moderate intensity exercise,provides observational and mechanistic evidence from research on other viral infections that suggests strategically planned exercise regimens may help reduce susceptibility to infection,while also mitigating severe immune responses to infection commonly associated with poor COVID-19 *** propose that regular moderate intensity exercise should be considered as part of a combinatorial approach including widespread hygiene initiatives,properly planned and well-executed social distancing policies,and use of efficacious facial coverings like N95 *** discerning COVID-19 pathogenesis mechanisms,transfer dynamics,and individual responses to pharmaceutical and adjunct treatments are needed to reduce viral transmission and bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phenol is considered as pollutant due to its toxicity and carcinogenic ***,variety of innovative methods for separation and recovery of phenolic compounds is developed in order to remove the unwanted phenol from wastewater and obtain valuable phenolic *** of potential method is extraction using green based liquid organic ***,the feasibility of using palm oil was *** this research,palm oil based organic phase was used as diluents to treat a simulated wastewater containing 300×10^(-6) of phenol solution using emulsion liquid membrane process(ELM).The stability of water-in-oil(W/O) emulsion on diluent composition and the parameters affecting the phenol removal efficiency and stability of the emulsion;such as emulsification speed,emulsification time,agitation speed,surfactant concentration,pH of external phase,contact time,stripping agent concentration and treat ratio were carried *** results of ELM study showed that at ratio7 to 3 of palm oil to kerosene,5 min and 1300 r·min^(-1) of emulsification process the stabile primary emulsion were ***,no carrier is needed to facilitate the phenol *** experimental conditions of500 r·min^(-1) of agitation speed,3%Span 80,pH 8 of external phase,5 min of contact time,0.1 mol·L^(-1) NaOH as stripping agent and 1:10 of treat ratio,the ELM process was very promising for removing the phenol from the *** extraction performance at about 83%of phenol was removed for simulated wastewater and an enrichment of phenol in recovery phase as phenolate compound was around 11 times.

Percutaneous abscess drainage is a procedure commonly performed by interventional radiologists to provide source control on infections using CT or ultrasound *** interventionalist has many different sizes and shapes of catheters to treat abscesses of varying sizes and locations,but the general approach to each abscess is similar:provide a percutaneous route for purulence,bacteria,necrotic tissue,and other debris to escape the *** generally considered a low-risk procedure,adverse events can occur due to operator error or other *** present a unique case of an abscess drain placed into a right upper quadrant abscess that formed following laparoscopic cholecystectomy that perforated and entered the *** physicians,both in the emergency department and the radiology reading room,were able to rapidly rule out more common post-operative complications and make the correct diagnosis,likely preventing dangerous sequelae from developing in this patient.

Drilling into a geopressured zone will generally cause a change in a number of basic formation/ drilling relationships. This change is usually seen as a reversal of a gradual depth related trend in a lithologically uniform formation. Of all the geophysical methods, the reflection seismic method is essentially the only technique used to predict pore pressures. The seismic method detects changes of interval velocity with depth from velocity analysis of the seismic data. These changes are in turn related to lithology, pore fluid type, rock fracturing and pressure changes within a stratigraphic column. When the factors affecting the velocity are understood for a given area, a successful pressure prediction can be made. For clastic environments such as the Tertiary section of the Gulf of Mexico or the Niger delta, the interval velocity of the rocks increases with depth because of compaction. In these areas, deviations from normal compaction trends are related to abnormally high pore pressures. The adapted methods provide a much easier way to handle normal compaction trend lines. In addition to well log methods, pressure detection can be obtained via drilling parameters by applying Eaton’s DXC methods. Seismic velocities have long been used to estimate pore pressure, indeed both these quantities are influenced by variations in rock properties such as porosity, density, effective stress and so on, and high pore pressure zones are often associated with low seismic velocities. Pressure prediction from seismic data is based on fundamentals of rock physics and seismic attribute analysis. This paper hence tries to assess the use of seismic waves as a viable means to calculate pore pressure, especially in areas where no prior drilling history can be found. Then we applied these methods on LAGIA-8 well, Sinai, Egypt as a case study. Pore pressure prediction from Seismic is a very essential tool to predict pore pressure before drilling operation. An algorithm for automated fitting of the effective electron temperature from a planar Langmuir probe I-V trace taken in a plasma with multiple Maxwellian electron populations is developed through MATLAB *** code automatically finds a fitting range suitable for analyzing the temperatures of each of the electron *** algorithm is used to analyzeⅠ-Ⅴtraces from both the Institute of Plasma Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences's Diagnostic Test Source device and a similar multi-dipole chamber at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.Ⅰ-Ⅴtraces reconstructed from the parameters fitted by the algorithm not only agree with the measured I-V trace but also reveal physical properties consistent with those found in previous *** probe traces are also analyzed with the algorithm and it is shown that the major source of error in such attempts is the disruption of the inflection point due to both decreased signal-to-noise ratio and greater sheath *** is thus recommended to use planar probes with radii much greater than the plasma Debye length when signal-to-noise ratio is poor.

The 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded jointly to Sir John B Gurdon and Shinya Ya-manaka “for the discovery that mature cells can be re-programmed to become pluripotent”. Professor John B Gordon who pioneered the feld of somatic cell nuclear transfer was the frst to show that a nucleus of a ma-ture cell can be transplanted into an enucleated egg and give rise to a living organism. His pioneering “clon-ing” technique paved the way for genome reprogram-ming and has led to subsequent cloning of differentani-mal species. Professor Shinya Yamanaka revolutionized the fled of stem cell production by showing that the introduction of four selected genes into cells transform them into induced pluripotent stem cells that resemble embryonic stem cells and serve as promising cells for future regenerative medicine.

Remittances to Ghana： Benefits to the Housing Sector and Impact of Financial Crisis

The role of inflow of overseas remittances towards the development of housing sector in Ghana, and the impact of recent financial crisis on the development process is investigated. This is achieved through a review and analysis of information gathered through national and international statistical sources and targeted household and institutional interviews. As a prelude to the analysis the study assessed the importance of remittance as large and growing part of the economic underpinning of developing countries. It then assesses whether remittances have a particular relationship with housing. The research provided an estimate of the nature, level and uses of remittances and the different cyclical characters of other flows. It reveals that the successful real estate market development across Ghana during the past decade benefited from a buoyant national economy, improved financial systems and family remittances. However, the picture changed especially during 2008 attributed mainly to the global financial crisis and economic downturn. The reverberating problems of unemployment and high levels of bankruptcies in the advanced countries were felt but not as pronounced as they were in the major industrialised economies. The discussions concluded by posing a much broader question in relation to other developing countries about how remittances could be mobilised towards the development of the housing sector.
