The Global Positioning System(GPS)is expected to play an integral role in the development of digital earth;however,the GPS cannot provide positioning information in regions where a majority of the population spends their time,that is,in urban and indoor ***,alternate positioning systems that work in indoor and urban environments should be developed to achieve the vision of digital ***-Fi-based positioning systems(WPS)stand out because of the near-ubiquitous presence of the associated infrastructure and signals in indoor *** WPS-based fingerprinting is the most widely adopted technique for position determination,but its accuracy is lower than that of techniques such as time of arrival and angle of *** the accuracy is still a challenging task because of the complex nature of the propagation of Wi-Fi ***,a novel server-based,genetic-algorithm-optimized,cascading artificial neural network-based positioning model is *** model is tested in 2D and 3D indoor environments under varying *** model is thoroughly investigated on a real Wi-Fi network,and its accuracy is found to be better than that of other well-known techniques.A mean accuracy of 1.9 m is achieved with 87%of the distance error within the range of 0-3 m.

The special property of the actinide mass region is that nuclei belonging to this group are radioactive and undergo different ground state processes,such as alpha decay,cluster radioactivity(CR),heavy particle radioactivity(HPR),and spontaneous fission(SF).In this study,the probable radioactive decay modes of the heavy mass region(Z=89−102)are studied within the framework of the preformed cluster model(PCM).In the PCM,the radioactive decay modes are explored in terms of the preformation probability(P0)and penetration probability(P)at the turning point Ra,where the penetration of fragments is initiated[Ra=RT(touching state)+ΔR(neck length parameter)].First,the alpha decay half-lives are calculated for light and heavy nuclei,and Ra points are obtained by optimizing the neck length *** Ra points are further employed to fix the Q-value dependent turning point(Ra(Q)).Then,using the(Ra(Q))relation,the decay half-lives are computed,and the calculated results are compared with the available theoretical and experimental *** isotopical trend of P0 and P is studied with respect to the mass number of the parent and daughter nucleus,*** CR and HPR channels are also explored,and a comparison of calculated data is conducted with the available *** analysis of the fragmentation potential and preformation probability is carried out for alpha decay and *** mass distribution of the nuclei is studied as a function of fragment mass(A2)by considering the spherical and hot-compact deformation of the decaying ***,the most probable fission fragments are identified using the fragmentation structure,and the corresponding fission fragment total kinetic energy of the identified fragments is calculated and compared with available data,wherever applicable.

An Artificial Neural Network-Based Snow Cover Predictive Modeling in the Higher Himalayas

With trends indicating increase in temperature and decrease in winter precipitation, a significant negative trend in snow-covered areas has been identified in the last decade in the Himalayas. This requires a quantitative analysis of the snow cover in the higher Himalayas. In this study, a nonlinear autoregressive exogenous model, an artificial neural network （ANN）, was deployed to predict the snow cover in the kaligandaki river basin for the next 30 years. Observed climatic data, and snow covered area was used to train and test the model that captures the gross features of snow under the current climate scenario. The range of the likely effects of climate change on seasonal snow was assessed in the Himalayas using downscaled temperature and precipitation change projection from - HadCM3, a global circulation model to project future climate scenario, under the AIB emission scenario, which describes a future world of very rapid economic growth with balance use between fossil and non-fossil energy sources. The results show that there is a reduction of 9% to 46% of snow cover in different elevation zones during the considered time period, i.e., 2Oll to 2040. The 4700 m to 52oo m elevation zone is the most affected area and the area higher than 5200 m is the least affected. Overall, however, it is clear from the analysis that seasonal snow in the kaligandaki basin is likely to be subject to substantialchanges due to the impact of climate change.

The role of deposition rate in the structural, optical and electrical properties of SnOthin films deposited by electron beam evaporation method is investigated by varying the deposition powers viz. 50, 75, and 100 *** structural characterization of the films is done by X-ray diffraction(XRD) technique. The surface morphology of the films is studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Rutherford back scattering(RBS) measurements revealed the thickness of the films ranging from 200 nm to 400 and also a change in the concentration of oxygen vacancies which is found to be the maximum in the film deposited at the lowest deposition rate. Optical absorption spectrum is recorded using the UV–V is spectroscopy and the films are found to be transparent in nature. A shift in the absorption edge is observed and is attributed to a different level of allowed energy states in conduction band minimum. The Hall effect and electrical measurements show a variation in the carrier concentrations, mobility and resistivity of the films. In order to explore a better compromise in electrical and optical properties for transparent electrode applications, skin depths calculations are also done to find the optimized values of carrier concentration and mobility.

Whole rock major and trace element compositions of seven eclogites from the Tso Morari ultra-high pressure(UHP) complex, Ladakh were determined with the aim of constraining the protolith origins of the subducted crust. The eclogites have major element compositions corresponding to sub-alkaline basalts. Trace element characteristics of the samples show enrichment in LILE's over HFSEs(Rb, Th, k except Ba) with LREE enrichments((La/Lu)n = 1.28-5.96). Absence of Eu anomaly on the Primitive Mantle normalized diagram suggests the absence of plagioclase fractionation. Positive correlation between Mg# with Ni and Cr suggests olivine fractionation of mantle melts. Narrow range of(La/Yb)n(2.1-9.4) and Ce/Yb(6.2-16.2) along with Ti/Y(435-735) ratios calculated for the Tso Morari samples is consistent with generation of melts by partial melting of a garnet free mantle source within the spinel peridotite field. Ternary diagrams(viz. Ti-Zr-Y and Nb-Zr-Y) using immobile and incompatible elements show that the samples range from depleted to enriched and span from within plate basalts(WPB)to enriched MORB(E-MORB) indicating that the eclogite protoliths originated from basaltic *** Mantle normalized multi element plots showing significant Th and LREE enrichment marked by negative Nb anomalies are characteristic of continental flood basalts. Positive Pb, negative Nb, high Th/Ta, a narrow range of Nb/La and the observed wide variation for Ti/Y indicate that the Tso Morari samples have undergone some level of crustal contamination. Observed geochemical characteristics of the Tso Morari samples indicate tholeiitic compositions originated from enriched MORB(E-MORB) type magmas which underwent a limited magmatic evolution through the process of fractional crystallization and probably more by crustal contamination.
