Profiles and predictors of onset based differences in vocal characteristics of adults with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder(ANSD)

Purpose:Onset-based differences are understudied in Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder(ANSD)in dimensions such as voice,which is addressed in the *** study aimed to profile and predict the best metrics of onset-related differences in acoustic vocal characteristics of early and late-onset ANSD ***:31 participants(15 early and 16 late-onset)aged 15e30 years diagnosed with ANSD were included in the *** sustained phonation of vowel/i/recorded by the participants using android based smartphones of selected configuration was sent over email to the *** parameters(fundamental frequency,harmonic frequencies,jitter,shimmer,harmonic-to-noise ratio,cepstral peak prominence-CPP,and pitch sigma)were analysed using Praat ***:Results revealed significantly increased(p<0.05)fundamental frequency along with decreased F2 and F3 of/i/in the early-onset ANSD compared to the late-onset group,which can be explained based on differences in the pathophysiology of the *** not statistically significant,mean perturbations(jitter and shimmer),harmonic-to-noise ratio,cepstral peak prominence,and pitch sigma were more affected in the early-onset group,reflective of lowered auditory feedback and periodicity in their voice *** of discriminant analysis marked the emergence of F2,F3,and CPP as the most sensitive metrics for onset-based group differences in voice ***:The findings from the study highlight the role of acoustical voice evaluation(especially CPP,F2&F3)in verifying the onset of ANSD *** insights from the onset-based differences seen in vocal characteristics can indirectly help audiologists in deciding the management options for ANSD.

Near-saturated soil hydraulic conductivity and pore characteristics as influenced by conventional and conservation tillage practices in North-West Himalayan region,India

Tillage plays an important role in modifying soil hydraulic *** objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of conservation tillage practices in a maize-wheat cropping system on nearsaturated soil hydraulic properties and pore characteristics in the North-West Himalayan region,*** treatments *** tillage(CT),minimum tillage(MT),and zero tillage(ZT)were evaluated in terms of field saturated hydraulic conductivity(ks),unsaturated hydraulic conductivity k(h),the inverse of capillary length(a),flow-weighted mean pore radius(r0),numbers of pores per square meter(n0)and water-conducting macroporosity(Ɛ).The above hydraulic conductivity and pore characteristics were derived from steady-state water flux(q)measured using hood infiltrometer at 0,1,and3 cm pressure head for each treatment after seven years of establishment of this tillage *** revealed significantly(p0.50 mm conducted about 63.60,68.01,and 75.97%of total flow(at 0 cm pressure head)in the corresponding water-conducting macroporosity of 0.00030,0.00044,and 0.00069%of soil volume under CT,MT,and ZT,***,zero-tillage based agriculture system was found to improve near-saturated soil hydraulic properties.

Seismic stratigraphy and the sedimentation history in the Laxmi Basin of the eastern Arabian Sea:Constraints from IODP Expedition 355

Detailed interpretation of seismic stratigraphic sequences in the Laxmi Basin of the eastern Arabian Sea are presented in this study using closely spaced high resolution multi-channel seismic(MCS)*** stratigraphic interpretation is further corroborated using recent drilling results in the Laxmi Basin,derived from the long sediment cores collected during International Ocean Discovery Program(IODP)Expedition *** core-log interpretation discussed in the present study,offer important insights about the lithostratigraphic variations in this *** of multi-channel seismic reflection data reveal five depositional sequences(ranging from Paleocene to Recent)that led to the development of this marginal basin since the Cenozoic *** igneous basement is successfully imaged,which was also validated by deep sea coring during the IODP Expedition *** the present study,we primarily focus on the post-rift sedimentation in the Laxmi Basin and its possible *** detailed interpretation in the prevailing tectonic framework of the basin suggests that near-shelf oldest volcaniclastic sedimentation immediately overlying the acoustic basement is linked to the onset of India-Madagascar and India-Seychelles rifting activities during the Late Cretaceous ***,during the Early-Mid to Late Miocene,the basin received maximum sedimentation dominantly through an extensive mass transport mechanism implying possible large-scale deformation on the Indian *** sediment input to the basin appears to have been fed variably via the Indus Fan as well as coastal discharge from the Indian *** total sediment thickness in the Laxmi Basin ranges from 1.1 to 3.5 *** stratigraphic information and sediment isopach maps presented here provide vital information about syn-and post-rift sedimentation pattern in the region and their long term tectonic implications.

Sensitivity analysis in chaotic dynamical systems is a challenging task from a computational point of *** this work,we present a numerical investigation of a novel approach,known as the space-split sensitivity or S3 *** S3 algorithm is an ergodic-averaging method to differentiate statistics in ergodic,chaotic systems,rigorously based on the theory of hyperbolic *** illustrate S3 on one-dimensional chaotic maps,revealing its computational advantage over na?ve finite difference computations of the same statistical *** addition,we provide an intuitive explanation of the key components of the S3 algorithm,including the density gradient function.

Role of stromal cell-derived factor 1α pathway in bone metastatic prostate cancer

Metastatic prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in men. The primary site of metastasis from prostate cancers is the bone. During the last decade, multiple studies have pointed to the role of the stromal cell-derived factor 1 alpha （SDF 1 a）/CXCR4 axis in the metastatic spread of the disease, but the mechanisms that underlie this effect are still incompletely understood. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of the role of the SDF 1a/CXCR4 pathway in bone metastatic prostate cancer. We also discuss the therapeutic potential of disrupting the interaction between prostate tumor cells and bone environment with focus on the SDF1a pathway.

Peri-implantitis or Periimplantitis is characterized as an inflammatory reaction that affects the hard and soft tissue, which results in loss of supporting bone and pocket formation surrounding the functioning osseointegrated implant. This review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of surgical and non-surgical treatment of PI. The data sources used was PubMed. Searches of this database were restricted to English language publications from January 2010 to June 2015. All Randomized Controlled Trials describing the treatments of PI of human studies with a follow up of at least 6 months were included. Eligibility and quality were assessed and two reviewers extracted the data. Data extraction comprised of type, intensity provider, and location of the intervention. A total of 20 publications were included（10 involving surgical and 10 involving non-surgical mechanical procedure）. The non-surgical approach involves the mechanical surface debridement using carbon or titanium currettes, laser light, and antibiotics whereas, surgical approach involves implantoplasty, elevation of mucoperiosteal flap and removal of peri-inflammatory granulation tissue followed by surface decontamination and bone grafting. This study reveals that non-surgical therapy tends to remove only the local irritant from the PI surface with or without some additional adjunctive therapies agents or device. Hence, non-surgical therapy is not helpful in osseous defect. Surgical therapy in combination with osseous resective or regenerative approach removes the residual sub-gingival deposits additionally reducing the PI pocket. Although there is no specific recommendation for the treatment of PI, surgicaltherapyincombinationwithosseousresectiveorregenerativeapproachshowedthepositiveoutcome.

One-Step Synthesis and Photoluminescence Evaluation of Cadmium-containing Quantum Dots

We have developed a simple one-step process for synthesis of ternary quantum dots(ZnCdSe,MgCdSe) with photoluminescence wavelengths ranging from the red to the blue region of the visible *** primary aim of this work was to develop a synthesis for the preparation of Cd-containing quantum dots using a Cd precursor with lower toxicity than those used in common syntheses. This synthesis makes use of Cd(acac)_2 which is significantly less toxic than precursors such as CdO and CdCl_2. We have studied the effect of solvent boiling point, precursors and reaction time on the photoluminescence properties of the ternary quantum dots. Ternary quantum dots synthesized from Cd(acac)_2 in low boiling point solvents have photoluminescence wavelengths in the blue region, while those synthesized in high boiling point solvents have photoluminescence wavelengths in the red region.

Basement tectonics and flexural subsidence along western continental margin of India

The Paleocene-recent post-rift subsidence history recorded in the Mumbai Offshore Basin off western continental margin of India is examined. Results obtained through 2-D flexural backstripping modelling of new seismic data reveal considerable thermo-tectonic subsidence over last ca. 56 Myr. Reverse postrift subsidence modelling with variable β stretching factor predicts residual topography of ca. 2000 m to the west of Shelf Margin Basin and fails to restore late Paleocene horizon and the underlying igneous basement to the sea level. This potentially implies that:(1) either the igneous basement formed during the late Cretaceous was emplaced under open marine environs; or(2) a laterally varying cumulative subsidence occurred within Mumbai Offshore Basin(MOB) during ca. 68 to ca. 56 Ma. Pre-depositional topographic variations at ca. 56 Ma across the basin could be attributed to the extensional processes such as varied lower crustal underplating along Western Continental Margin of India(WCMI). Investigations about basement tectonics after unroofing of sediments since late Paleocene from this region support a transitional and heavily stretched nature of crust with high to very high β factors. Computations of past sediment accumulation rates show that the basin sedimentation peaked during late Miocene concurrently with uplift of Himalayan-Tibetan Plateau and intensification of Indian monsoon system. Results from basin subsidence modelling presented here may have significant implications for further studies attempting to explore tectono-climatic interactions in Asia.

After much procrastination,the Indian government has released its much awaited and delayed Arctic Policy document on 17 March 22 with the theme being“Building a Partnership for Sustainable Development”.It has been 15 years since India commenced its scientific research in the Arctic region and this policy document,charting out the direction that India aspires to assume will be keenly examined by the diverse stakeholders of the *** being an Arctic Council observer for nearly a decade,India continues to view the Arctic from a mere scientific prism and yet again missed on the opportunity to elucidate her geo-economic,geostrategic,economic and geopolitical aspirations in the hugely vital *** is no gainsaying that the research bases discreetly also act as pillars of geopolitical engagement and indirectly this scientific diplomacy ushers in peace and prevent conflict situations yet a holistic national policy enunciating a roadmap and vision for dealing in a region which has eight sovereign states,thirteen sovereign states as observers,various intergovernmental and inter-parliamentarian outfits,NGOs and a complex governance structure was much awaited.
