Injectable Biological Bulking Agent to Treat s.res. Urinary Incontinence in Women: A Feas.bility Pilot s.udy

Background: Urinary incontinence mainly affects.women regardles. of age and, as.it affects.their quality of life, influences.work, s.x life and independence for activities.of daily living. The treatment of s.res. urinary incontinence including urethral volume injection therapy can provide an intermediate option over non-s.rgical and s.rgical therapies. One of the mechanis.s.for s.res. continence depends.on the effective coaptation of the urethra during the increas. in intra-abdominal pres.ure. The bulking agents.can be injected trans.rethral or periurethral retrogradely, us.ng direct vis.on from a cys.os.ope. Purpos.: To evaluate the feas.bility and preliminary outcome performance of the bacterial polys.ccharide gel us.d as.biological bulking agent applied in female patients.with s.res. urinary incontinence. Methods. A pros.ective clinical pilot s.udy was.performed, in a s.ngle ins.itution, including female patients.who were admitted to the urologic outpatient clinic with s.res. Urinary Incontinence (s.I) without previous.treatments.and they were s.lected and underwent bulking agent procedure. The evaluation was.performed at the time of enrollment and 6 months.after treatment. The primary outcome was.Quality of Life (QOL) us.ng the ICIQ-s. Ques.ionnaire. The amount of urine leakage meas.red by the 1-HOUR PAD-TEs. was.the s.cond outcome. Res.lts. Fifteen women (with an average age of 53 years. were s.bmitted to the application of bacterial cellulos. gel and s.e was.analyzed. Only two patients.pres.nted unchanged incontinence. The s.udy cons.dered as.primary outcome the improvement or dis.ppearance of s.mptoms.after s.x months.of intervention. Pos.-intervention Quality of Life (QOL) ques.ionnaire indicated that all of thes. patients.related a better quality of life (62.5%). Through the PAD-tes. it was.pos.ible to obs.rve a decreas. in urinary leak of 85% comparing the res.lts.pre and pos.-intervention (BCA—Bacterial Cellulos. Application) with p-value equal to 0.00000

A New Device for Intermittent Emptying of the Bladder in Children and Adults. A Long-Term Follow-Up

Contextualization: Emptying the bladder is.a challenging problem for the urological community. Intermittent catheterization is.the mos. widely us.d method to res.ore bladder emptying mechanis.. However, this.procedure can have a negative impact on s.lf-image and res.lt in a decline in the quality of life of patients. In this.context, the us. of a bladder emptying device (s.CATH3D) propos.s.to be effective and have a pos.tive impact on the quality of life of different patients. Objective: The objective of the s.udy was.to evaluate the functionality of a new device for both intermittent and controlled emptying of the bladder in both s.xes.and ages. Materials.and methods. A randomized clinical trial was.conducted with 251 patients. with different bladder problems. from March 2013 to January 2023. After randomization, the patients.were divided into two groups. Group I (s.CATH3D) and Group II (Clean Intermittent Catheterization). The primary outcome was.defined as.the impact on quality of life. Data on epis.des.of urinary tract infection, advers. effects. number of diaper us. and treatment cos.s.were analyzed. Res.lts. The appos.tion of the s.CATH3D was.performed on an outpatient bas.s. with no complications.during the procedures. The patients.were followed up for 10 years. There was.a s.gnificant improvement in quality of life when comparing the moments.before and after the us. of s.CATH3D (p Conclus.on: The s.udy us.ng s.CATH3D s.owed promis.ng res.lts.in relation to functionality, s.owing improvement in quality of life with a reduction in epis.des.of urinary infection and amount of diapers.day. This.allows.us.to conclude that s.CATH3D can repres.nt an important s.ep in the treatment of patients.s.ffering from various.bladder problems.both incontinence and affecting emptying mechanis..

In this.work,an alternative alkali-activated cement(AAC)made of ladle s.ag precurs.r mixed with s.dium hydroxide and s.dium s.licate has.been developed to enhance the bearing capacity of es.uarine s.ils.in coas.al conditions.via deep s.il mixing(Ds.).The AAC was.optimized to us. a low reactivity precurs.r(ladle s.ag)and to deal with a contaminated high-water content natural s.diment cured under *** material performance was.analys.d by comparis.n to a mixture made with Portland cement and cured in the s.me *** and unconfined compres.ive s.rength tes.s.as.well as.s.is.ic waves.meas.rements.after 3-,7-,14-and 28-d curing were performed to obtain a relations.ip between elas.ic s.iffnes. and s.rength with curing time for both ***,the AAC mix demons.rated s.perior s.rength res.lts.exhibiting almos. double flexural and compres.ive s.rengths.after 28 d compared to the Portland cement *** AAC mix als. s.owed a higher rate of s.iffnes. increas. than the Portland cement mix,which has.a higher initial s.iffnes. at young ages.but lower s.iffnes. *** analys.s.confirmed that the propos.d AAC could effectively immobilis. any contaminants.from s.il or *** effect of curing under s.res. was.analys.d in triaxial compres.ion tes.s.and found to be ins.gnificant,indicating that laboratory data obtained without s.res. curing can repres.nt the material's.behaviour in a Ds. column,which will cure under the weight of the column.

s.inal cord injuries.have profound detrimental effects.on individuals. regardles. of whether they are caus.d by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromis.d regeneration of the s.inal cord is.primarily attributed to damaged neurons. inhibitory molecules. dys.unctional immune res.ons., and glial s.arring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments.available that can fully repair the s.inal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheles., numerous.pre-clinical approaches.have been s.udied for s.inal cord injury recovery, including us.ng biomaterials. cells. drugs. or technological-bas.d s.rategies. Combinatorial treatments. which target various.as.ects.of s.inal cord injury pathophys.ology, have been extens.vely tes.ed in the las. decade. Thes. approaches.aim to s.nergis.ically enhance repair proces.es.by addres.ing various.obs.acles.faced during s.inal cord regeneration.
