In this paper we study the effect of rolling.friction on the dynamics in a sing.e spout fluidized bed using.Discrete Element Method （DEM） coupled to Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD）. In a first step we neg.ect rolling.friction and show that the results delivered by the open source CFD-DEM framework applied in this study ag.ee with previous simulations documented in literature. In a second step we include a rolling.friction sub-model in order to investig.te the effect of particle non-sphericity. The influence of particle-particle as well as particle-wall rolling.friction on the flow in sing.e spout fluidized bed is studied separately. Adequate rolling.friction model parameters are obtained using.first principle DEM simulations and data from literature. Finally, we demonstrate the importance of correct modelling.of rolling.friction for coupled CFD-DEM simulations of spout fluidized beds. We show that simulation results can be improved sig.ificantly when applying.a rolling.friction model, and that experimental data from literature obtained with Positron Emission Particle Trackin~ fPEPT） technique can be satisfactorily reoroduced.

The influence of the thickness of a covering.liquid layer and its viscosity as well as the impact velocity on energ. loss during.the normal impact on a flat steel wall of spherical g.anules with a liquid layer was studied. Free-fall experiments were performed to obtain the restitution coefficient of elastic-plastic γ- Al2O3 g.anules by impact on the liquid layer, using.aqueous solutions of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose with different concentrations for variation of viscosity （1-300 mPa s）, In the presence of a liquid layer, increase of liquid viscosity decreases the restitution coefficient and the minimum thickness of the liquid layer at which the g.anule sticks to the wall. The measured restitution coefficients were compared with experiments performed without liquid layer. In contrast to the dry restitution coefficient, due to viscous losses at lower impact velocity, hig.er energ. dissipation was obtained, A rational explanation for the effects obtained was g.ven by results of numerically solved force and energ. balances for a g.anule impact on a liquid layer on the wall. The model takes into account forces acting.on the g.anule including.viscous, surface tension, capillary, contact, drag. buoyancy and g.avitational forces. g.od ag.eement between simulations and experiments has been achieved.

Discrete particle modeling.of g.anular temperature distribution in a bubbling.fluidized bed

The discrete hard sphere particle model （DPM） is applied in this work to study numerically the distribu- tions of particle and bubble g.anular temperatures in a bubbling.fluidized bed. The dimensions of the bed and other parameters are set to correspond to those of Miuller et al（2008）. Various drag.models and oper- ational parameters are investig.ted to find their influence on particle and bubble g.anular temperatures. Various inlet superficial g.s velocities are used in this work to obtain their effect on flow characteristics. It is found that the superficial g.s velocity has the most important effect on g.anular temperatures including.bubble g.anular temperature, particle translational g.anular temperature and particle rotational g.anular temperature. The drag.force model affects more seriously the larg. scale variables such as the bubble g.an- ular temperature. Restitution coefficient influences all g.anular temperatures to some deg.ee. Simulation results are compared with experimental results by Muller et al. （2008） showing.reasonable ag.eement.
