Effects of the Morphology of the Electrode nanostructures on the Performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

This article reports the performances of dye-sensitized solar cells based on different working electrode structures,namely(1)highly ordered arrays of TiO_(2)nanorods,(2)highly ordered arrays of TiO_(2)nanotubules of different wall thicknesses,and(3)sintered TiO_(2)*** though highest short-circuit current density was achieved with systems based on TiO_(2)nanotubules,the most effi cient cells were those based on ordered arrays of TiO_(2)*** is probably due to the higher open-circuit photovoltage values attained with TiO_(2)nanorods compared with TiO_(2)*** nanorods are thicker than the nanotubules and therefore the injected electrons,stored in the trap states of the inner TiO_(2)particles,are shielded from recombination with holes in the redox electrolyte at *** high short-circuit photocurrent densities seen in the ordered TiO_(2)systems can be explained by the fact that,in contrast to the sintered nanoparticles,the parallel and vertical orientation of the ordered nanostructures provide well defi ned electron percolation paths and thus signifi cantly reduce the diffusion distance and time constant.

Prostate cancer （PC） is the second most diagnosed visceral malignancy in men worldwide, with over 900 000 new diagnoses each year.1 Approximately 50% of patients treated in industrialized nations will receive androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） at some point in their lifetimes.2 The use of ADT as a treatment approach is likely to increase as new drug developments have focused on intensifying the effect of reducing androgen receptor activation.

Pedestrians have unique needs to ensure their safety as they interact with others within a transportation system. Since this is especially true in third world context, it is imperative to gain a better understanding of pedestrian behaviors in developing countries. The goal is to have planners and engineers create appropriate design guidelines and inform policy decisions. Data on pedestrian characteristics and behavior metrics were gathered from midblock crossings in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Quadratic and logistic regressions suggest that pedestrian delay and utilization of crossings increase with age, while conflicts decrease with it. Male waiting time is approximately half of female waiting time, and males are twice as likely to cause conflicts with motor vehicles. These strong patterns will hopefully aid in the understanding of pedestrian behavior in relation to motor vehicle traffic in urban areas of developing countries, encouraging safer crossings to be designed.

AIM: To determine if novel bile acid transporters may be expressed in human tissues. METHODS: SLC10A1 (nTCP) was used as a probe to search the nCBI database for homology to previously uncharacterized ESTs. The homology search identified an EST (termed SLC10A4) that shares sequence identity with SLC10A1 and SLC10A2 (ASBT). We performed northern blot analysis and RT-PCR to determine the tissue distribution of SLC10A4. SLC10A4 was cloned in frame with an epitope tag and overexpressed in CHO cells to determine cellular localization and functional analysis of bile acid uptake. RESULTS: northern analysis revealed that SLC10A4 mRnA is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues with the highest levels of mRnA expression in brain, placenta, and liver. In SLC10A4-transfected CHO cells, immunoblotting analysis and immunofluorescence staining demonstrated a 49-kDa protein that is expressed at the plasma membrane and intracellular compartments. Functional analysis of SLC10A4 showed no significant taurocholate uptake in the presence of sodium when compared to untransfected CHO cells. COnCLUSIOn: To date, we have shown that this protein has no capacity to transport taurocholate relative to SLC10A1; however, given its ubiquitous tissue distribution, it may play a more active role in transporting other endogenous organic anions.

5-aminosalicylic acid （mesalamine） rarely induces hyper- sensitivity reactions. If chest pain associated with atypical electrocardiographic changes are seen during its administration, one should always bear in mind type I variant of Kounis syndrome. This variant includes patients, of any age, with normal coronary arteries, without predisposing factors for coronary artery disease, in whom the acute release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells can induce either sudden coronary artery narrowing, without increase of cardiac enzymes and troponins, or coronary artery spasm that progresses to acute myocardial infarction, with elevated cardiac enzymes and troponins.

Aims Although ecological interactions are often conceptualized and stud-ied in a pairwise framework,ecologists recognize that the outcomes of these interactions are influenced by other members of the ***(i)between plants and insect herbivores and(I)between plants and mycorrhizal fungi are ubiquitous in terrestrial ecosystems and may be linked via common host *** studies suggest that colonization by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)can modifty plants'induced responses to herbivore attack,but these indirect effects of fungal symbionts are poorly understood.I investigated the role of AMF in induced plant response to a gen-eralist ***|manipulated AMF status and herbivory in Cucumis sativus L.(cucumber,Cucurbitaceae)in a greenhouse to investigate induced responses in the presence and absence of the mycorrhi-zal fungus Glomus intraradices(Glomeraceae).Spodoptera exigua Habner(noctuidae)were used to manipulate prior damage and later as assay caterpillars.I also measured *** and her-bivory effects on plant n and effects on plant *** tant Findings AMF status affected the induced response of ***,underscor-ing the importance of incorporating the roles of plant symbionts into plant defense *** caterpillars ate significantly more leaf tissue only on mycorrhizal plants that had experienced prior *** more consumption,biomass change in these cat-erpillars did not differ from those feeding on plants with other treat-ment *** n content was reduced by *** but unaffected by herbivory treatments,suggesting that the observed differences in assay caterpillar feeding were due to changes in defensive chemistry that depended on AMF.

AIM: We have previously demonstrated that cholangiocytes, the epithelial cells lining intrahepatic bile ducts,encode two functional bile acid transporters via alternative splicing of a single gene to facilitate bile acid vectorial transport. Cholangiocytes possess ASBT,an apical sodium-dependent bile acid transporter to take up bile acids,and t-ASBT,a basolateral alternatively spliced and truncated form of ASBT to efflux bile *** hepatocyte and ileal bile acid transporters are in part regulated by the flux of bile acids, the effect of alterations in bile acid flux on the expression of t-ASBT in terminal ileocytes remains ***,we tested the hypothesis that expression of ASBT and t-ASBT in cholangiocytes and ileocytes was regulated by bile acid flux. METHODS: Expression of ASBT and t-ASBT message and protein in cholangiocytes and ileocytes isolated from pair- fed rats given control (C) and 1% taurocholate (TCA) or 5% cholestyramine (CY) enriched diets,were assessed by both quantitative Rnase protection assays and quantitative *** data obtained from each of the control groups were pooled to reflect the changes observed following TCA and CY treatments with respect to the control diets. Cholangiocyte taurocholate uptake was determined using a novel microperfusion technique on intrahepatic bile duct units (IBDUs) derived from C,TCA and CY fed rats.
