Long-lived lunar volcanism sustained by precession-driven core-mantle friction

Core-mantle friction induced by the precession of the Moon's spin axis is a strong heat source in the deep lunar mantle during the early phase of a satellite's evolution, but its influence on the long-term thermal evolution still remains poorly explored. Using a one-dimensional thermal evolution model, we show that core-mantle friction can sustain global-scale partial melting in the upper lunar mantle until ～3.1 Ga, thus accounting for the intense volcanic activity on the Moon before ～3.0 Ga. Besides, core-mantle friction tends to suppress the secular cooling of the lunar core and is unlikely to be an energy source for the long-lived lunar core dynamo. Our model also favours the transition of the Cassini state before the end of the lunar magma ocean phase(～4.2.Ga), which implies a decreasing lunar obliquity over time after the solidification of the lunar magma ocean. Such a t{2.d of lunar obliquity evolution may allow volcanically released water to be buried in the lunar regolith of the polar regions. As a consequence, local water ice could be more abundant than previously thought when considering only its accumulation caused by solar wind and comet spreading.

The α-decay properties of well-deformed even-even nuclei are systematically calculated within the multichannel cluster model (MCCM). Instead of working in the WKB framework, the quasibound solution to the coupled Schro¨dinger equation is presented with outgoing wave boundary conditions, and the coupling potential is taken into full account in terms of the general quantum theories. The calculated α-decay half-lives are found to agree well with the experimental data with a mean factor of less than 2. The fine structure observed in α decay is also well reproduced by the four-channel microscopic calculation. Very strikingly, the MCCM can give relatively precise descriptions of the branching ratio to excited 4+ states, which is often overestimated in the usual WKB calculations. We expect it to be a significant development of theoretical models toward quantitative descriptions of α transitions to high-spin daughter states.

Semitransparent organic solar cells(ST-OSCs)have garnered considerable attention as promising renewable energy technology for integrating photovoltaics into ***,there is a trade-off between power conversion efficiency(PCE)and average visible transmittance(AVT),which hinders the achievement of a high light utilization efficiency(LUE).In this study,we propose a valuable method to address this challenge by replacing the transparent top electrode,Ag,with a 2. nm layer of *** ST-OSCs based on the 2. nm Au electrode demonstrate superior exciton extraction,more efficient charge collection,and higher color-rendering index(CRI)due to their smoother surface,higher conductivity,and enhanced visible light transmittance,resulting in a significantly higher PCE of 13.67%and an enhanced AVT of 30.17%,contributing to a high LUE of 4.15%.Additionally,optically transparent dielectric layers,applied on the front and back sides of the ST-OSCs to further boost performance,delivered an impressive LUE of 4.93%,with PCE and AVT values reaching 14.44%and 34.12.,***,the champion ST-OSCs also exhibited a favorable CRI value of *** achievements represent the bestperforming ST-OSCs to date with both high LUE and CRI and hold significant implications for the prospective commercialization of ST-OSCs.

Samples of black rock series collected from the Lower Cambrian niutitang Formation, northwestern Hunan Province, china, were analyzed for trace elements. The trace element geochemical characteristics of the ore layer (high enrichments of ni, Mo, V, U, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Tl and Ba; high U/Th ratios and LREE enriched patterns with positive Eu and Y anomalies) support the assumption that the ni Mo polymetallic layer is of submarine hydrothermal origin. High field strength elements (HFSE) and lithophile elements such as Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, Li, Be, Rb, Cs, Th and Sc are remarkably higher in the upper unit than those in the lower unit of the niutitang Formation. These features may reflect that hydrothermal contributions were diminished, and terrigenous constituents were increased in the sediments of the upper unit of the niutitang Formation.

The symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) that has the ability in decompo- sition of the total interaction energy into physically meaningful components is used to provide a more fundamental understanding of intermolecular forces. This work was motivated by the diffi- culty of standard SAPT in computing the intermolecular interactions for large energetic dimer systems. SAPT based on Kohn-Sham orbitals (SAPT(DFT)) proves computationally efficient for these large systems, but has been shown to perform poorly for interaction energy components. The deficiencies of SAPT(DFT) result from wrong asymptotical behaviors of commonly used exchange-correlation potentials. To remove the deficiencies, two asymptotic corrections by means of van Leeuwen and Baerends (LB) model potential and Fermi-Amaldi (FA) type potential were applied into three small test systems comprising He2. HF2.and (N2.2.and a set of larger ni- tramide dimers at several separations. The results showed that when utilizing newly developed frequency-dependent density susceptibilities (FDDS) technique for computing dispersion energy, the FA asymptotic correction is very effective to circumvent these deficiencies in SAPT(DFT) and yields a good accuracy over the LB correction. The FA corrected SAPT(DFT) approach is capa- ble of correctly predicting all the quantitative trends in binding energies for all test cases and substantially reduces computational cost as compared with the standard SAPT calculations. The successful application of the approach to nitramide dimer demonstrates that it potentially pro- vides a good means to calculate accurately intermolecular forces in larger system such as en- ergetic systems.

Agrogyron elongatum were grown in nutrient solution containing moderate to high amounts of separate heavy metal of Cd, Cu, ni and Ph in a greenhouse for a 9 - day. Cd, Cu, ni and Ph generally led to decrease in the elongation of roots although the length of seedlings exposed to Cd and Ph at 0.05 and 0.5 mg/L showed to be slightly greater than that of controls. Of the four metals in the experiment, Ph was absorbed and accumulated to the highest level, with the concentrations of 92.54 mg/kg dry weight (DW) in roots and 11683 mg/kg DW in shoots. Cd was moderately accumulated in Agrogyron elongatum, but the maximum bioaccumulation coefficients (BCs) for roots and shoots were observed. The patterns for Cu and ni uptake and distribution in plants differed from those of Ph and Cd, as it was showed that the shoot accumulation of Cu and ni was significantly higher than in roots. A. elongation had the highest ni concentration in shoots (302.1 mg/kg DW) at the external concentration of 2.0 mg/L. Cu ranked second, with a shoot concentration of 12.30 mg/kg DW when 50 mg/L Cu in solution was applied. For the four trace elements tested, the highest concentrations in shoots decreased by the order of ni > Cu > Ph > Cd (mg/kg DW), and those in roots were Ph > Cd > ni > Cu (mg/kg DW). Malic, oxalic and citric acids exuded by roots exposed to 1 and 50 mg/L of the metals were detected. Release of organic acids from plants significantly differed among the metal treatments. Cu was most effectively in inducing root exudation of the three types of organic acids. Cd, and ni were also the inducers of secretion of malic and oxalic acids. With reference of Pb, a small amounts of malic and oxalic acids were detected in the root exudates, but few quantities, of citric acid were. found. However, no correlation between alternations in root exudation of organic acids and metal accumulation could be established.
