Myo-inositol versus metformin effects on clinical features, endocrine and metabolic profiles in infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome: A randomized controlled trial

Objective:To compare the effectiveness of inositol and metformin on the clinical characteristics,and endocrine and metabolic profiles of infertile polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS)women from ***:From June 2018 to August 2022,a randomized trial was undertaken at the Hue Center for Endocrinology and Reproduction on infertile women aged 18 to 40 years with polycystic ovarian *** clinical,endocrine,and metabolic features of these individuals were assessed before and after 3 months of treatment with 2 g of inositol or 1700 mg of metformin per *** pregnancy rates,adverse effects,and tolerance of inositol were ***:The study included 171 infertile PCOS women who were eligible to participate and took part in the baseline assessment,of whom 132 women participated in data analysis after 3 *** metformin treatment,42.1%of women with oligomenorrhea experienced regular *** significantly lowered body mass index(BMI),waist circumference and testosterone levels,but had no effect on other clinical characteristics,endocrine profiles,or metabolic profiles.29.2%Of women reported experiencing side effects.21%Of them attained pregnancy,which resulted in 17.1%of live *** the inositol group,the rate of regular cycle increased by 18.2%and the total testosterone concentration significantly *** overweight/obese women with PCOS,inositol significantly decreased weight,BMI,waist and hip circumferences(P<0.05).100%Of women tolerated inositol and continued treatment.18.9%Of them became pregnant,leading to 17%of live ***:Metformin and inositol can improve weight and waist circumference in overweight/obese infertile women with *** is associated with a higher rate of regular menstruation,whereas inositol is associated with a lower rate of adverse *** spontaneous conception,clinical pregnancy,and live birth rates between two groups are comparable.

Scouring of a granular bed by dam break: Experimental study and numerical simulation by a VOF-LPT coupling

The first part of the research reported here consists of an experimental campaign to study the scouring of a granular bed(glass beads, sand) induced by a dam break in an open channel. Two configurations are considered: with and without cylinders. In the second part of this study, the volume of fluid method coupled with the shear stress transport turbulent model and the lagrangian particle tracking method is used to simulate the local scour processes. The four-way coupling is realized by considering the drag force and collisions between particles. Using a vortex map and velocity profiles, the flow dynamics and scour pattern can be studied. The current research also focuses on the profiles of the erodible particle bed and the sediment transport rate to study the effects of a cylinder on local scour. The presence of the cylinder increases the experimental erosion depth by up to 42%. It was found that for relatively close particle diameters(2 and 3 mm), a granular bed with larger porosity(larger diameter) erodes the *** and numerically it was found that the center of the granular bed experiences more erosion compared to the channel sides. In the last part of the research, comparisons between the numerical results and the experimental data allowed risk areas to be identified and the roles of porosity,sediment density, and flow dynamics on erosion to be identified.

Transfer Learning for Disease Diagnosis from Myocardial Perfusion SPECT Imaging

Coronary artery disease(CAD)is one of the most common pathological conditions and the major global cause of *** perfusion imaging(MPI)using single-photon emission computed tomography(SPECT)is a non-invasive method and plays an essential role in diagnosing ***,there is currently a shortage of doctors who can diagnose using SPECT-MPI in developing countries,especially *** on deploying machine learning and deep learning in supporting CAD diagnosis has been noticed for a long ***,these methods require a large dataset and are therefore time-consuming and *** study aims to develop a cost-effective and high-performance CAD classification model to support doctors in these *** this paper,we propose a transfer learning framework for a multi-stage training process with different learning *** process consists of two training stages:a warming up stage in which all layers of a pre-trained model(on ImageNet dataset)are frozen;and a finetuning stage in which a small amount of the top layers are unfrozen and then retrained with a lower learning *** dataset for this study consists of the polar maps from 218 *** popular CNN-based pre-trained models have been investigated,and ResNet152V2-based model has obtained the highest performances with an accuracy of 95.5%,area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)score 0.932,sensitivity 94.4%,precision 96.4%,and F1-score 95.2%.These performances are competitive or even better than all state-of-the-art approaches in terms of classification accuracy and *** also apply the class activation mapping technique to help explain the model’s predictions and increase the model’s reliability,proving capable of assisting the SPECT image readers in the CAD diagnosis.

Novel Deletion in Exon 7 of Betaine Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 2(BADH2)

The fragrance of rice is one of the premium characteristics that breeders want to include in rice varieties due to the higher market value. Nucleotide deletions in exons 2(7 bp) and 7(8 bp) of Betaine Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 2(BADH2) are associated with fragrance in rice. In this study, a new 13 bp deletion in exon 7 of the BADH2 gene was discovered in the Nang Thom Cho Dao(NTCD) variety, and the mutation has been closely related to the genetic background of indica subspecies through the Bayesian phylogenetic approach and haplotype network analysis of the 3 000 Rice Genomes Project. In addition, a set of functional markers(EX07-13F, EX07-13RN, and EX07-13RM) identified the 13 bp deletion only within NTCD(no amplified band) compared with both non-aromatic and other aromatic rice varieties(110 bp band). The deletion of 13 bases instead of 8 bases in exon 7 of BADH2 caused a premature stop codon, which down-regulated the expression of the BADH2 transcript while associated with up-regulation of OsP5CS and the high amount of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline. It is potential to use the deletion in exon 7 of the BADH2 gene as a novel marker for adulteration and breeding of fragrant rice varieties, particularly for NTCD.

Spiritual Forests—A Nature Conservation Model of Ethnic Minority Communities in Central viet Nam

This paper aims to analyze and evaluate a model of forest conservation and management of ethnic minority (or indigenous) people in central vietnam, often referred to as the spiritual forest. These forests, called sacred forest or ghost forests by the ethnic minority people in Thua Thien Hue province, have existed for a long time among forest residents. However, they have recently declined, both in quality and quantity, due to various factors, including changes in society, economy, environment, and perception, among other reasons. Based on research conducted in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province with household interviews, group discussions, and field surveys, we find that spiritual forest retains religious and human significance. They are also often among the last remaining natural forests left due to deforestation by human activities. The research results indicate challenges that conservation of spiritual forest may face, while giving recommendations derived from communities for sustainable forest development and conservation in the region.

Numerical investigation of the influence of casting techniques on fiber orientation distribution in ECC

Engineered cementitious composites(ECC),also known as bendable concrete,were developed based on engineering the interactions between fibers and cementitious *** orientation of fibers,in this regard,is one of the major factors influencing the ductile behavior of this *** this study,fiber orientation distributions in ECC beams influenced by different casting techniques are evaluated via numerical modeling of the casting *** casting directions and two casting positions of the funnel outlet with beam specimens are modeled using a particle-based smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH)*** this SPH approach,fresh mortar and fiber are discretized by separated mortar and fiber particles,which smoothly interact in the computational domain of *** movement of fiber particles is monitored during the casting ***,the fiber orientations at different sections of specimens are determined after the fresh ECC stops flowing in the *** simulation results show a significant impact of the casting direction on fiber orientation distributions along the longitudinal wall of beams,which eventually influence the flexural strength of *** addition,casting positions show negligible influences on the orientation distribution of fibers in the short ECC beam,except under the pouring position.

Background Clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis, caused by the liver flukesClonorchis sinensis andOpisthorchis viverrini respectively, represent significant neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Asia. The co-existence of these pathogens in overlapping regions complicates effective disease control strategies. This study aimed to clarify the distribution and interaction of these diseases within Southeast *** We systematically collated occurrence records of human clonorchiasis (n = 1809) and opisthorchiasis (n = 731) across the Southeast Asia countries. Utilizing species distribution models incorporating environmental and climatic data, coupled machine learning algorithms with boosted regression trees, we predicted and distinguished endemic areas for each fluke species. Machine learning techniques, including geospatial analysis, were employed to delineate the boundaries between these *** Our analysis revealed that the endemic range ofC. sinensis andO. viverrini in Southeast Asia primarily spans across part of China, vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. During the period from 2000 to 2018, we identifiedC. sinensis infections in 84 distinct locations, predominantly in southern China (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) and northern vietnam. In a stark contrast,O. viverrini was more widely distributed, with infections documented in 721 locations across Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and vietnam. In recent years,blockchain technology has been applied in the educational domain because of its salient advantages,i.e.,transparency,decentralization,and *** systems typically use public blockchain networks such as Ethereum and Bitcoin to store learning ***,the cost of writing data on these networks is significant,making educational institutions limit data sent to the target network,typically containing only hash codes of the issued *** this paper,we present a system based on a private blockchain network for lifelong learning data authentication and management named B4E(Blockchain For Education).B4E stores not only certificates but also learners’training data such as transcripts and educational programs in order to create a complete record of the lifelong education of each user and verify certificates that they have *** a result,B4E can address two types of fake certificates,i.e.,certificates printed by unlawful organizations and certificates issued by educational institutions for learners who have not met the training *** addition,B4E is designed to allow all participants to easily deploy software packages to manage,share,and check stored information without depending on a single point of *** such,the system enhances the transparency and reliability of the stored *** experiments show that B4E meets expectations for deployment in reality.

Fuzzy MCDM Model for Selection of Infectious Waste Management Contractors

Healthcare supply chains are under pressure to drive down costs because of digital business,shifting customer needs and new *** waste generated from medical facilities includes medical activities and daily-life activities of patients and their family *** to statistics of the Department of Health EnvironmentalManagement,vietnam currently has more than 13,500 medical facilities,including hospitals from central to provincial and district levels and private hospitals and medical *** medicine generates about 590 tons of medical waste/day and is estimated to be about 800 tons/*** waste includes ordinary medical waste and hazardous medical waste;in which ordinary medical waste accounts for about 80%–90%,only about 10%–20%is hazardous medical waste including infectious waste and non-infectious hazardous *** is an environmental and occupational health issue that needs attention in developing countries like *** large amounts of medical waste to ensure environmental and personal hygiene,doing so inefficiently creates potential hazards to the environment and increases operating ***,hospitals lack objective criteria and methods to evaluate and select the most optimal infectious medical waste,relying instead on their own subjective assessment and prior ***,the author proposed a fuzzy multicriteria decision making(MCDM)model including Fuzzy Analytic hierarchy process(FAHP)and the Weighted Aggregated Sum-Product Assessment(WASPAS)for infectious medical waste contractors’selection in this *** proposed Fuzzy MCDM method is in-tended to provide a more efficient,accurate method in the selection of infectious medical waste contractors than subjective assessment methods,thus reduce potential risks to *** results of this study can be applied to evaluate and select contractors in other industries.
