in recent years,pediat.ic health care has embraced the concept of quality improvement to improve patient *** quality improvement efforts are implemented,network collaboration(where multiple centers and practices implement standardized programs)is a popular *** a collaborative network,improvement.in the conduct of structural,process and outcome quality measures can lead to improvements in overall health,and benchmarks can be used to assess and compare *** t.is review article,we provided an overview of the quality improvement movement and the role of quality indicators in t.is *** reviewed current quality improvement efforts in pediat.ic inflammatory bowel disease (iBD),as well as other pediat.ic chronic *** discussed the need to standardize the development of quality indicators used in quality improvement networks to assess medical care,and the validation techniques which can be used to ensure that process indicators result.in improved outcomes of clinical *** aimed to assess current quality improvement efforts in pediat.ic iBD and other diseases,such as childhood asthma,childhood arthritis,and neonatal *** doing so,we hope to learn from their successes and failures and to move the field forward for future improvements in the care provided to children with iBD.

Examining data visualization pitfalls in scientific publications

Data visualization blends art and science to convey stories from data via graphical *** different problems,applications,requirements,and design goals,it.is challenging to combine these two components at their full *** the art component.involves creating visually appealing and easily interpreted graphics for users,the science component requires accurate representations of a large amount of input *** a lack of the science component,visualization cannot serve its role of creating correct representations of the actual data,thus leading to wrong perception,interpretation,and *** might be even worse if incorrect visual representations were intentionally produced to deceive the *** address common pitfalls in graphical representations,t.is paper focuses on identifying and understanding the root causes of misinformation in graphical *** reviewed the misleading data visualization examples in the scientific publications collected from indexing databases and then projected them onto the fundamental units of visual communication such as color,shape,size,and spatial ***,a text mining technique was applied to extract practical insights from common visualization ***’s Q test and McNemar’s test were conducted to examine if there is any difference in the proportions of common errors among color,shape,size,and spatial *** findings showed that the pie chart.is the most misused graphical representation,and size is the most critical *** was also observed that there were statistically significant differences in the proportion of errors among color,shape,size,and spatial orientation.

Optimization of buckling load for laminated composite plates using adaptive Kriging-improved PSO:A novel hybrid intelligent method

An effective hybrid optimization method is proposed by integrating an adaptive Kriging(A-Kriging)into an improved partial swarm optimization algorithm(iPSO)to give a so-called A-Kriging-iPSO for maximizing the buckling load of laminated composite plates(LCPs)under uniaxial and biaxial *** t.is method,a novel iterative adaptive Kriging model,which is structured using two training sample sets as active and adaptive points,is utilized to directly predict the buckling load of the LCPs and to improve the efficiency of the optimization *** active points are selected from the initial data set while the adaptive points are generated using the radial random-based convex *** cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method(CS-DSG3)is employed to analyze the buckling behavior of the LCPs to provide the response of adaptive and input data *** buckling load of the LCPs is maximized by utilizing the iPSO *** demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed methodology,the LCPs with different layers(2,3,4,and 10 layers),boundary conditions,aspect ratios and load patterns(biaxial and uniaxial loads)are *** results obt.ined by proposed method are in good agreement with the literature results,but with less computational *** applying adaptive radial Kriging model,the accurate optimal resultsebased predictions of the buckling load are obt.ined for the studied LCPs.

t.is paper proposes a new Deep Feed-forward Neural Network(DFNN)approach for damage detection in functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNtRC)*** the proposed approach,the DFNN model is developed based on a data set cont.ining 20000 samples of damage scenarios,obt.ined via finite element(FE)simulation,of the FG-CNtRC *** elemental modal kinetic energy(MKE)values,calculated from natural frequencies and translational nodal displacements of the structures,are utilized as input of the DFNN model while the damage locations and corresponding severities are considered as *** state-of-the art Exponential Linear Units(ELU)activation function and the Adamax algorithm are employed to train the DFNN ***,in order to enhance the performance of the DFNN model,the mini-batch and early-stopping techniques are applied to the training process.A t.ial-and-error procedure is implemented to determine suitable parameters of the network such as the number of hidden layers and the number of neurons in each *** accuracy and capability of the proposed DFNN model are illustrated through two distinct configurations of the CNt-fibers constituting the FG-CNtRC plates including uniform dist.ibution(UD)and functionally graded-V dist.ibution(FG-VD).Furthermore,the performance and stability of the DFNN model with the consideration of noise effects on the input data are also *** results indicate that the proposed DFNN model is able to give sufficiently accurate damage detection outcomes for the FG-CNtRC plates for both cases of noise-free and noise-influenced data.

Bi-Objective Optimal Control Modification Adaptive Control for Systems with input Uncert.inty

t.is paper presents a new model-reference adaptive control method based on a bi-objective optimal control formulation for systems with input uncert.inty. A parallel predictor model is constructed to relate the predictor error to the estimation error of the control effectiveness mat.ix. in t.is work, we develop an optimal control modification adaptive control approach that seeks to minimize a bi-objective linear quadratic cost function of both the tracking error norm and the predictor error norm simultaneously. the resulting adaptive laws for the paramet.ic uncert.inty and control effectiveness uncert.inty are dependent on both the tracking error and the predictor error, while the adaptive laws for the feedback gain and command feedforward gain are only dependent on the tracking error. the optimal control modification term provides robustness to the adaptive laws naturally from the optimal control framework. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive control approach.

Obesity is one of the diseases with severe health consequences and rapidly increasing worldwide *** the complex network of food intake and energy balance regulation is an essential prerequisite for pharmacological intervention with obesity.G prot.in-coupled receptors(GPCRs)are among the main modulators of metabolism and energy ***,for instance,regulate appetite and satiety in cert.in hypothalamic neurons,as well as glucose and lipid metabolism and hormone secretion from *** in some GPCRs,such as the melanocortin receptor type 4(MC4R),have been associated with early-onset ***,we identified the adhesion GPCR latrophilin 1(ADGRL1/LPHN1)as a member of the regulating network governing food intake and the maintenance of energy *** of the highly conserved receptor in mice results in increased food consumption and severe obesity,accompanied by dysregulation of glucose ***,we identified a partially inactivating mutation in human ADGRL1/LPHN1 in a patient suffering from ***,we propose that LPHN1 dysfunction is a risk factor for obesity development.

We present and compare twoﬂexible and effective methodologies to predict disturbance zones ahead of underground tunnels by using elastic full-waveform *** methodology uses a linearized,iterative approach based on misﬁt gradients computed with the adjoint method while the other uses iterative,gradient-free unscented Kalmanﬁltering in conjunction with a level-set *** the former does not.involve a priori assumptions on the dist.ibution of elastic properties ahead of the tunnel,the latter intro-duces a massive reduction in the number of explicit model parameters to be inverted for by focusing on the geomet.ic form of potential disturbances and their average elastic *** imaging methodologies are validated through successful reconstructions of simple *** an application,we consider an elastic multiple disturbance *** using identical synthetic time-domain seismo-grams as test data,we obt.in satisfactory,albeit different,reconstruction results from the two inversion *** computa-tional costs of both approaches are of the same order of magnitude,with the gradient-based approach showing a slight *** model parameter space reduction approach compensates for t.is by additionally providing a posteriori estimates of model parameter uncert.inty.
