Groundwater is an important and readily available source of fresh water in the Mekong-lancang River Basin. With a rapid population growth and increasing human activities, an increasing number of countries in the Mekong-lancang River Basin are experiencing depleted and degraded groundwater supplies. In transboundary river basins, such as the Mekong-lancang River, prioritizing the use of the shared aquifer by one riparian government may affect the opportunities of other riparian governments and lead to potential water conflicts between neighboring countries. To promote the sharing of strategies and information for the sustainable and equitable use of water resources of the shared basin, international collaborative workshops on groundwater resources have been organized for all Mekong-lancang River countries. These workshops provide an opportunity to communicate and discuss nationally sensitive issues on groundwater by the associated countries, with topics covering multiple aspects of groundwater, such as the groundwater status in the basin, quality issues, water use conflicts, hydrological information gaps, management policies and capacity building for successful water resource management. Consensus has been reached by all countries on the importance of catchment-based groundwater management and the need for close communication among the countries. Strategies for managing transboundary aquifer issues must foster international collaboration based on the regional network, influence national networks and enhance the capacity to building maps and monitoring systems based on associated databases. The sustainability of water resources cannot be achieved without the integrated involvement and contributions by multiple countries and various stakeholders. Therefore, collaborative workshops provide a great opportunity to further our understanding of the hydrologic processes of the Mekong River Basin, share the benefits of the aquifer and provide a strategy and vision for sustain

this paper presents a compact and low-power-based discrete-time chaotic oscillator based on a carbon nanotube field-effect transistor implemented using Wong and Deng＇s well-known model. The chaotic circuit is composed of a nonlinear circuit that creates an adjustable chaos map, two sample and hold cells for capture and delay functions, and a voltage shifter that works as a buffer and adjusts the output voltage for feedback. The operation of the chaotic circuit is verified with the SPICE software package, which uses a supply voltage of 0.9 V at a frequency of 20 kHz. The time series, frequency spectra, transitions in phase space, sensitivity with the initial condition diagrams, and bifurcation phenomena are presented. The main advantage of this circuit is that its chaotic signal can be generated while dissipating approximately 7.8 μW of power, making it suitable for embedded systems where many chaos-signal generators are required on a single chip.

To reveal the multivariate relationships between man-made and meteorological factors on dust storm frequency, the LUCC data, NDVI remote sensing data and meteorological data for the period of 1983-2013 were combined with dust storm frequency data, and the possible impacts of meteorological and anthropogenic factors on dust storm frequency were analyzed by using regression analysis and PCA (Principal Component Analysis). Results show that the inter-annual dust storm frequency increased gradually. In particular, an increasing trend in recent years, after 2009, is conspicuous. The monthly frequency of dust storms shows higher values between the months of February and May, with the highest mean number of events occurring in April, which accounts for 29% of the annual dust storm frequency. The annual dust storm frequency is positively correlated with wind speed and negatively correlated with precipitation;the monthly dust storm frequency is positively correlated with wind speed, but no significant correlation can be found with precipitation. The relationship between temperature and dust storms is not simply linear, however, a certain correlation with an unremarkable statistical significance can be found between them. Human activities also affect the dynamics of dust storms indirectly via changing vegetation coverage and direct dust emissions. The multivariate analysis further confirmed the association between dust storm frequency and meteorological factors and NDVI. The high loadings of dust storm frequency, wind speed, precipitation and NDVI on a PC indicate that the increased precipitation and NDVI will decrease dust storm frequency, and increased wind speed will increase dust storm frequency.

Two patients had a long history of hypertension and one of them also had a nephrotic-range proteinuria secondary to focal segmental scleronephrosis which had been diagnosed by kidney biopsy. They presented with uncontrolled hypertension. Laboratory examination suggested hypersecretion of catecholamines by the left adrenal glands in both patients and primary aldosteronism in one of them. A computed tomography scan revealed small nodules on left adrenal gland in both patients. Patients underwent laparoscopic left adrenalectomy. After surgery, blood pressure was normalized and proteinuria was resolved. Most interestingly, prominent adipocytes infiltrated were detected in the adrenal cortex and were associated with the presence of lymphocytes, which suggested that adipocytes might have a role in the pathogenesis of these diseases in our patients.

Resistance to targeted anti-cancer drugs is a complex phenomenon and a major challenge in cancer *** is becoming increasingly evident that a form of acquired drug resistance known as“adaptive resistance”is a common cause of treatment failure and patient relapse in many *** classical resistance mechanisms that are acquired via genomic alterations,adaptive resistance is instead driven by non-genomic changes involving rapid and dynamic rewiring of signalling and/or transcriptional networks following therapy,enabled by complex pathway crosstalk and feedback *** network rewiring allows tumour cells to adapt to the drug treatment,circumvent the initial drug challenge and continue to survive in the presence of the *** its great clinical importance,adaptive resistance remains largely under-studied and poorly *** review is focused on recent findings which provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying adaptive resistance in breast cancer,highlighting how breast tumour cells rewire intracellular signalling pathways to overcome the stress of initial targeted *** particular,we investigate adaptive resistance to targeted inhibition of two major oncogenic signalling axes frequently dysregulated in breast cancer,the PI3K-AKT-mTOR and RAS-MAPK signalling pathways;and discuss potential combination treatment strategies that overcome such *** addition,we highlight application of quantitative and computational modelling as a novel integrative and powerful approach to gain network-level understanding of network rewiring,and rationally identify and prioritise effective drug combinations.
