Hazardous metals emissions from e-waste-processing sites in a village in northern Vietnam

Inappropriate e-waste-processing operation is a serious issue in developing countries since the early 2000'*** research was conducted to clarify its influences and diffuse toxic substances in the environment at e-waste-processing sites in a village in northern Vietnam from 2012 to *** investigated surface soil samples collected from e-waste-processing sites,open burning sites,and rice paddy *** samples and water samples were also collected from a river that runs through the *** hazardous metal concentration in soil and river sediment samples indicated that 7 elements(Ca,Cu,Mo,Ni,Pb,Sn,and Zn)had high concentrations as a result of *** notably,Pb and Cu had high concentrations in soil samples(Pb:26e2200 mg/kg,Cu:22e3000 mg/kg).The results of a multivariate analysis indicated that these 7 elements were closely correlated with *** of hazardous metals showed an upward trend where e-waste-processing occurred during the 3-year study period,although it was not significant statistically at *** burning activity had a great influence on Cu accumulation,and maximum Cu concentrations increased from 340 mg/kg in 2012e3000 mg/kg in 2014 in soil samples from open-burning *** were large differences in the dominant hazardous metal depending on the type of e-waste-processing workshop because hazardous metal composition was influenced by the types of e-waste and the processing *** is necessary to avoid e-waste processing in open-air environment to control emissions of hazardous ***,open burning should be prohibited.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused millions of deaths and hundreds of millions of confirmed infections *** pandemic has prompted researchers to produce medications or vaccines to reduce or stop the progression and spread of this disease.A variety of previously licensed and marketed medications are being tested for the treatment and recurrence of SARS-CoV2,including favipiravir(Avigan).Favipiravir was recognized as an influenza antiviral drug in Japan in 2014,and has been known to have a potential in vitro activity against SARS-CoV-2,in addition to its broad therapeutic safety *** was recently approved and officially used in many countries *** review provides insights and up-to-date knowledge of the current role of favipiravir in the treatment of COVID-19 infection,focusing on preclinical and ongoing clinical trials,evidence of its efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19,side effects,anti-viral mechanism,and the pharmacokinetic properties of the drug in the treatment of *** to its teratogenic effects,favipiravir cannot be offered to expectant or pregnant *** practical efficacy of such an intervention regimen will depend on its dose,treatment duration,and cost as well as difficulties in application.

Recently, information security has become a key issue in information technology as the number of computer security breaches are exposed to an increasing number of security threats. A variety of intrusion detection systems （IDS） have been employed for protecting computers and networks from malicious network-based or host-based attacks by using traditional statistical methods to new data mining approaches in last decades. In effect, the detection of the anomalies in the data-processing networks is regarded as one problem of data classification where the use of the data mining techniques and machine learning. In this paper, we present a new method performing the intrusion detection system. This approach, called MCSAS, is based on a multiple classifier System that uses an adaptive strategy for intrusion detection. The adaptive strategy is inspired from Boosting, an ensemble method that distinguishes attacks from normal behaviors and identifies different types of intrusions. The experimental results, conducted on the KDD99 dataset, prove that our proposed solution approach outperforms several state-of-the-art methods, particularly indetecting rare attack types.

Spectral Features for the Detection of Land Cover Changes

Derivation of more sensitive spectral features from the satellite data is immensely important for better retrieving land cover information and change monitoring, such as changes in snow covered area, forests, and barren lands as some examples from local to the global scale. The major objectives of this paper are to present the potential of water-resistant snow index (WSI) for the detection of snow cover changes in the Himalayas, extant two composite images, biophysical image composite (BIC) and forest cover composite (FCC) for the detection of changes in barren lands and forested areas respectively, and two newly designed composite images, water cover composite (WCC) and urban cover composite (UCC) for the detection of changes in water and urban areas respectively. This research implemented the image compositing technique for the detection and visualization of land cover changes (water, forest, barren, and urban) with respect to local administrative areas where a significant land cover change occurred from 2001 to 2016. A case study was also conducted in the Himalayan region to identify snow cover changes from 2001 to 2015 using the WSI. Analysis of the annual variation of the snow cover in the Himalayas indicated a decreasing trend of the snow cover. Consequently, the downstream areas are more likely to suffer from snow related hazards such as glacial outbursts, avalanches, landslides and floods. The changes in snow cover in the Himalayas may bring significant hydrophysical and livelihood changes in the downstream area including the Mekong Delta. Therefore, the countries sharing the Himalayan region should focus on adapting the severe impacts of snow cover changes. The image compositing approach presented in the research demonstrated promising performance for the detection and visualization of other land cover changes as well.

Estimation of Tropical Forest Structural Characteristics Using ALOS-2 SAR Data

The potential of ALOS-2 SAR data for the estimation of tropical forest structural characteristics was assessed in Vietnam by collecting forest inventory data. The effect of polarization and seasonality of the SAR data on the estimation of forest biomass was analyzed. The combination of HH, HV, and HH/HV polarizations using multiple linear regression did not improve the estimation of biomass compared to using the HV channel independently, as the HH and HH/HV variables were not statistically significant. The dry season HV backscattering intensity was highly sensitive to the biomass compared to the rainy season backscattering intensity. The SAR data acquired in the rainy season with humid and wet canopies was not very sensitive to the biomass. The strong dependence of the biomass estimates with the season of SAR data acquisition confirmed that the choice of right season SAR data is very important for improving the satellite based estimates of the biomass. The validation results showed that the dry season HV polarization could explain 54% variation of the biomass.

In 1996, C. C. Yang and P. C. Hu [8] showed that： Let f be a transcendental meromorphic function on the complex plane, and a ≠ 0 be a complex number; then assume that n 〉 2, n1,… , nk are nonnegative integers such that n1＋… ＋ nk ≥1; thus fn（f′）n1…（f（k））nk-a has infinitely zeros. The aim of this article is to study the value distribution of differential polynomial, which is an extension of the result of Yang and Hu for small function and all zeros of f having multiplicity at least k ≥2. Namely, we prove that fn（f′）n1…（f（k））nk-a（z） has infinitely zeros, where f is a transcendental meromorphic function on the complex plane whose all zeros have multiplicity at least k≥ 2, and a（z） 0 is a small function of f and n ≥ 2, n1,… ,nk are nonnegative integers satisfying n1＋ …＋ nk ≥1. Using it, we establish some normality criterias for a family of meromorphic functions under a condition where differential polynomials generated by the members of the family share a holomorphic function with zero points. The results of this article are supplement of some problems studied by d. Yunbo and G. Zongsheng [6], and extension of some problems studied X. Wu and Y. Xu [10]. The main result of this article also leads to a counterexample to the converse of Bloeh＇s principle.

The management of electronic waste(e-waste),which can be a source of both useful materials and toxic substances,depending on the processing method,is important for promoting material *** this study,we used the dioxin-responsive chemical-activated luciferase gene expression(DR-CALUX)assay combined with gas chromatographyehigh-resolution mass spectrometry to evaluate the levels of dioxin-like compounds in surface soils and river sediments collected in and around an e-waste-processing village in northern *** WHO-TEQs(Toxic equivalents)of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans(PCDD/Fs),coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls(Co-PCBs),and polybrominated dibenzo-pdioxins and dibenzofurans(PBDD/Fs)in soils collected in January 2012 ranged from 0.29 to 310 pg/g(median 2.9 pg/g,n=32),and the WHO-TEQs in sediments ranged from 0.96 to 58 pg/g(median 4.4 pg/g,n=8).Dioxin-like activities(CALUX-TEQs[2,3,7,8-TCDD equivalent])in soils collected in January 2012,2013,and 2014 ranged from<30 to 4300 pg/g(median<30 pg/g,n=96),and the activities in sediments ranged from<30 to 4000 pg/g(median 33 pg/g,n=24).Dioxin-like compounds accumulated in samples collected around e-waste-processing areas such as open-burning sites and e-waste-processing workshops,and the compounds may be transported from their sources to surrounding areas over the course of several *** of the CALUX-TEQs,but not WHO-TEQs,values were higher than the maximum acceptable WHO-TEQs promulgated by various authorities,indicating that all dioxin-like compounds should be evaluated in samples collected from e-waste-processing *** findings suggest that open burning and open storage of e-waste should be prohibited and that wastewater treatment should be implemented at each workshop to reduce contamination by dioxin-like compounds from e-waste.

Novel Active Contour Model for Image Segmentation Based on Local Fuzzy Gaussian Distribution Fitting

A novel active contour model is proposed, which incorporates local information distributions in a fuzzy energy function to effectively deal with the intensity inhomogeneity. Moreover, the proposed model is convex with respect to the variable which is used for extracting the contour. This makes the model independent on the initial condition and suitable for an automatic segmentation. Furthermore, the energy function is minimized in a computationally efficient way by calculating the fuzzy energy alterations directly. Experiments are carried out to prove the performance of the proposed model over some existing methods. The obtained results confirm the efficiency of the method.

Formulation Optimization Utilizing D-Optimal Experimental Design of Oral Capsules Containing Enteric-Coated Pellets of Lansoprazole and<i>in vivo </i>Bioequivalence

An optimized formulation of capsules containing Lansoprazole enteric-coated pellets using D-Optimal design with a polynomial statistical model were prepared by using Eudragit?L100 as an enteric coated polymer to provide resistance to simulated gastric acid dissolution in buffer media. D-Optimal experimental design was used to determine the optimal level for three coating layers that were applied to formulate the enteric-coated pellets including a drug loading layer, a sub-coating, and an outer enteric coating. Dissolution studies were performed on the prepared Lansoprazole capsules. Less than 5 percent of Lansoprazole was released in 60 minutes in an acidic dissolution medium (pH 1.2) and greater than 90 percent of active ingredient was released in the next 60 minutes in a buffer dissolution medium (pH 6.8). The Lansoprazole capsules were stable with no observable change in physico-chemical properties in accelerated and normal storage conditions for 6 and 18 months, respectively. The pharmacokinetic parameters Cmax, Tmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ were determined after administration of the D-Optimal design optimized capsules of LPZ to healthy beagle dogs and were statistically compared to Gastevin? capsules as a reference (KRKA, Slovenia) using the non-compartmental method with the aid of WinNonlin 5.2 software. The analysis of variance showed that the two formulations did not demonstrate bioequivalence using a 90% confidence interval range (80% - 120%) of Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞. No significant difference in Tmax was found at the 0.95 significance level using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. D-Optimal Experimental Design provided definitive direction for an optimal formulation of capsules containing enteric-coated pellets of lansoprazole loaded within the coating of pellets that provided similar bioequivalence to Gastevin.

Seasonal Effects of Backscattering Intensity of ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 (L-Band) on Retrieval Forest Biomass in the Tropics

This research has used the L-band radar from ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 and field work data for evaluation of seasonal effects of backscattering intensity on retrieval forest biomass in the tropics. The effects of seasonality and HH, and HV polarizations of the SAR data on the biomass were analyzed. The dry season HV polarization could explain 61% of the biomass in this study region. The dry season HV backscattering intensity was highly sensitive to the biomass compared to the rainy season backscattering intensity. The SAR data acquired in the rainy season with humid and wet canopies were not very sensitive to the in situ biomass. Strong dependence of the biomass estimates with season of SAR data acquisition confirmed that the choice of right season SAR data is very important for improving the satellite based estimates of the biomass. This research expects that the results obtained in this research will contribute to monitoring of the quantity and quality of forest biomass in Vietnam and other tropical countries.
