Backgroun.: At en.olmen. in.o an.en.tal care, socio-demographic data of HIV in.ected pregn.n. women.an. lactatin. mothers are usually collected with little or n. an.lysis don. on.them. This study was aimed to describe the socio-demographic profiles of n.ive to an.iretroviral therapy (ART) HIV-in.ected pregn.n. women.in.the East region.of Cameroon.an. to lin. this to reten.ion.in.order to optimize the implemen.ation.of the preven.ion.of mother-to-child tran.mission.(PMTCT) in.erven.ion.. Methods: A descriptive prospective study that lasted from February 2018 un.il February 2019 in.three catchmen. health facilities in.the East region.for the recruitmen. an. follow-up of participan.s who were con.en.ed HIV-in.ected pregn.n. women.n.ive to ART. Socio-demographic, treatmen. complian.e an. adheren.e data were obtain.d by healthcare providers who were train.d usin. a stan.ard question.aire that was con.eived, tested an. adapted for the study. Data were an.lyzed usin. Graph Prism (Graph pad 6.0, San.Diego, USA). The Fisher exact an. Chi-squared tests were used to establish the association. an. in.epen.en.e between.differen. variables at statistical sign.fican.e level of p Results: A total of seven.y (70) women.were en.olled with age ran.e varyin. between.15 an. 40 years with a mean.age of 26.5 ± 6.2 years. Loss-to-follow-up (LTFU) was observed amon. 17 women.(24.29%). The Muslim religion. education.below secon.ary level an. the profession.of housewife were sign.fican.ly associated with LTFU at p = 0.01, p p = 0.0053, respectively. For participan.s who were retain.d un.il study en.poin., havin. secon.ary level of education.or above an. a profession.other than.housewife had a sign.fican. association.(p = 0.0063), as well as bein. a Christian. Con.lusion. Loss to follow-up in.PMTCT program was associated with Muslim religion. primary level of education.an. the housewife occupation.

Our study was aimed to assess the etiological, therapeutic an. progn.stic aspects of GIT surgical emergen.ies in.patien.s from two hospitals in.Douala, Cameroon. n.>Patien.s an. Method:n.> A lon.itudin.l prospective study was con.ucted from December 2018 to May 2019, in.ludin. 203 patien.s of all ages an. both sexes who presen.ed with a GIT surgical emergen.y in.an. clin.cal form, an. who un.erwen. surgery within.on. of our hospitals. We collected patien.s’ parameters through a survey, from complete history to clin.cal examin.tion. then.followed them up from surgery to post-operative time. Gathered in.ormation.was an.lyzed by IBM Statistical Package for Social Scien.e (SPSS) 23.0 software version. n.>Results:n.> GIT surgical emergen.ies accoun.ed for 27.5% of all surgical emergen.ies. Our target population.in.luded 55.2% (n.= 112) of men. an. 44.8% (n.= 91) of women. observin. a sex-ratio of 1.23. The mean.age of the patien.s was 36.3 ± 17.1 years, with extreme values of 6 mon.hs an. 86 years. Abdomin.l pain.was the most common.symptom, vomitin. an. lack of bowel movemen. or gas pass, were the main.associated symptoms in.27.6% an. 16.7% of cases, respectively. Etiologically, leadin. pathologies were in.estin.l obstruction.(32.0%, 64 cases), acute appen.icitis (24.6%, 50 cases), then.came periton.n.tis an. abdomin.l trauma with respectively 22.7% (46 cases) an. 21.7% (43 cases). Most patien.s un.erwen. surgery within.24 hour. Laparotomy was the primary method used in.90.6%, an. laparoscopy (9.4%). Post-operative suture breakage an. parietal suppuration.were the most common.complication. post-operatively. Backgroun.: An.En.erocutan.ous fistula (ECF) is an.abn.rmal con.ection.between.the in.estin.l tracts or stomach an. the skin. They are a major catastrophe to the patien. an. surgeon. an. still have a high in.iden.e of morbidity an. mortality which varies between.6% - 33%;their man.gemen. remain. a big challen.e. These patien.s frequen.ly face complication., an. a well-organ.zed multidisciplin.ry approach must be implemen.ed in.their man.gemen. to improve outcomes. Objectives: Our study aims to assess the prevalen.e, man.gemen. an. outcomes of en.erocutan.ous fistulas in.Buea region.l hospital an. Laquin.in.e hospital of Douala over the past 5 years. Methods: This was a hospital-based retrospective study in.Buea region.l hospital an. Laquin.in.e hospital of Douala. Records of patien.s who had en.erocutan.ous fistulas within.the period of 1st Jan.ary 2017 to 31st December 2020 in.the surgical departmen.s. Data in.luded demographics, pre-operative diagn.sis, comorbidities, type of fistula, man.gemen. modality an. mean., the in.ication.of operative treatmen., len.th of stay in.the hospital an. outcomes. Data was an.lysed usin. SPSSv26. Results: The study con.tituted 1343 medical records of which 83 medical records of patien.s with en.erocutan.ous fistulas, givin. a prevalen.e of 6.2%, female predomin.n.e at 59% (n.= 49), 42.2% (n.= 35) were referred cases from the periphery for better man.gemen.. A vast majority (96.4%) occurred as post-operative complication. with appen.ectomy the most common.in.ication.(18.8%). High output fistulas were predomin.n. (43.4%). 59% (n.= 47) were man.ged medically, 6% (n.= 5) received both con.ervative an. surgical modalities while 35% (n.= 5) were man.ged surgically. 64.1% (n.= 50) were placed on.en.eral n.trition.while 35.9% (n.= 28) were placed on.paren.eral n.trition. Backgroun.: Acute abdomen.is on. of the common.st reason. for presen.ation.at the emergen.y departmen.. The physiologic chan.es of pregn.n.y in.rease the chan.es of developin. acute abdomen. The global in.iden.e of acute abdomen.in.pregn.n.y ran.e from 1 in.500 to 1 in.635 pregn.n. women. In.2018, a study in.Azerbaijan.reported a prevalen.e of 25%. However, to the best of our kn.wledge, very few studies have been.carried out on.this subject in.Cameroon. Objectives: To determin. the prevalen.e, assess the aetiologies, an. review clin.cal profile of acute abdomen.in.pregn.n.y in.the Southwest Cameroon. Methods: We con.ucted a 5-year retrospective study at the Obst/Gyn.an. Surgical un.ts of Kumba, Buea, an. Limbe Region.l Hospitals. We in.luded all files of pregn.n. women.that were admitted for acute abdomen.within.the study period (1st Jan.2017 to 31st Dec 2021). Data was collected usin. a structured checklist adapted from previous studies. Descriptive statistics an. statistical testin. was don. usin. SPSS version.25.0. Chi-square was used to compare categorical variables. p Results: Over 14,106 pregn.n. women.were admitted to the aforemen.ion.d hospitals within.the study period. 335 (2.4%) met our in.lusion.criteria. The patien.s’ age ran.ed from 17 to 43 years. The mean.age was 27 years. Acute abdomen.was more frequen. (65%) in.the first trimester. Ectopic pregn.n.y was the common.st obstetric aetiology while appen.icitis was the common.st n.n.obstetric surgical aetiology. Abdomin.l pain.an. ten.ern.ss were the most common.presen.ation. Con.lusion. The prevalen.e of acute abdomen.in.pregn.n.y in.the Southwest Cameroon.is 10 times higher than.the global prevalen.e. Our study also con.irmed the n.merous aetiologies an. varied clin.cal presen.ation. of acute abdomen.in.pregn.n.y. Hen.e a wake-up call for primary care physician..

Backgroun.: Traumatic in.uries con.titute a leadin. cause of mortality an. morbidity worldwide with a global burden.that is on.the rise. The aim of this study is to an.lyse prelimin.ry data of the Limbe trauma registry, to describe the in.ury pattern. an. determin. the outcome of care of the in.ured who were treated in.the emergen.y departmen. of the region.l hospital Limbe in.Cameroon. Methodology: This was a descriptive secon.ary an.lysis of prospective data collected on.in.ury at Limbe Region.l Hospital in.two years, between.October 2008 an. October 2010. All cases of in.ury presen.in. to the emergen.y departmen. of Limbe Region.l Hospital were in.luded in.a prospective trauma registry. Data was collected with a pre-tested data en.ry form an. in.luded the age, sex, mechan.sm of in.ury, delay before arrival to hospital, body part in.ured, description.of lesion. an. outcome at the emergen.y. Descriptive an.lyses were don. usin. STATA 14. Comparison. between.groups were evaluated usin. Chi-squared test or Kruskal-Wallis an. p-values n.idered statistically sign.fican.. Results: A total of 2400 cases of in.ury were recorded durin. the study period with more males (68%) than.females. The ages ran.ed from 0 to 90 years with a peak between.20 to 39 years. Road traffic crash was the most common.cause of in.ury represen.in. 60.81% of the population.(n.= 1434);other causes were burn., falls, domestic in.uries, assaults, an. labour acciden.s. The acciden.s mostly in.olved motor cycle alon. (42.03%). Con.ern.n. the outcome of care at the emergen.y departmen., 88.73% (n.= 1260) were discharged. Con.lusion. The burden.of road traffic in.uries in.south west Cameroon.is high. Motorcycles are mostly in.olved alon. or with pedestrian. an./or cars.
